Why were these features not implemented?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:14 am

I wish they did. I don't mind getting a product 10 years later, as long as it'll be 10x times better if it did.

yeah, let us all remember what endless development did for duke nukem....

Fact is you cannot have it all, deadlines exist and a product must be developed. These large DLC's are the way to add to the original design.

I think you're a bit confused. You don't experience graphics, it's just eye-candy for your eyes. The gameplay is what's important. I mean, the creators of PACMAN didn't spend their whole time trying to make him look good now did they?

I think you are missing (your own) point here. Your complaint -metaphored- to pac man would be akin to - "why didn't they include starfruit and rasberries for my pacman to eat? I would have waited extra long for that!"

Correct me if i'm wrong, but, hasn't some of these things been incorporated via mods? I believe a Beth dev also released a mod with one of the items in the video.

They released some of it via a patch (for free), yet apparently that isn't good enough and people still complain.

Watching the video of that Game Jam made me want to cry. This game would be 500% better with all these added features :(

I know, but why didn't they do that before the release? The features just look like what 99% of the people who bought Skyrim wanted to see.

Because after they finish the game and it goes gold they have a week of fun to make whatever they want, they didn't to it before the game went gold.

As I said in another topic:

If lycanthropy becomes a new skill, I want more lycanthropes. The lore already has different types, like Werebear, Wereboar and Wereshark, so why not add some of these into the game?

A vampire skill-tree would be nice too.

Really ? A freakin Wereshark ? Your walking down the road on the way to Whiterun when you spot a dubious looking fellow, he starts to run up to you and all of a sudden he has four more friends. You start to grab your sword and think, wait a sec, I use my new superpower and BEHOLD ! WERESHARK TO THE RESCUE ! Only wait, theres no water. Oh crap now Im flopping around on the dirty road getting pounded by dudes with warhammers.... damn maybe I shoulda thought this through a bit more.

lolz yeah it sound kind of stupid but weresharks are in the lore (not a clue if they can live on land in "shark form" though).

I actually find it a bit disheartening that Beth did all the "game jam" stuff in one week but 7 months after hasnt fixed the nirnroot or really given us a DLC. I know it's confirmed but I thought it would be out by now. I mean 60% is already down at launch with the games engine, graphics, world, character forms, enemies, base story, fighting mechanics, movement mechanics, weather mechanics, building forms, animal forms.... anything I left out ?

do you really want the dlc/expansion to be a rush job as the game it self?

As the DLC is taking this long, many of those features in the Jam may be getting added to the DLC.
A Beth dev did say they read the forum, and they did all the work in a week, so I do not think it would take much for them to decide to put it into the DLC.

I really want spears from that game jam, and a little added section to the two handed weapons for them.

Well, they are in the lore, so don't come to me complainin' about it.

Ok, maybe we can leave weresharks out, but still, at least something more than just a werewolf and a werebear. You know what I mean.

Graphics are indeed part of the experience. You can't HONESTLY say that you would be perfectly fine and achieve the same level of immersion and overall experience if Skyrim were all 8-bit, could you?

Vampires are overrated.
Could you really resist taking the "Sparkle in daylight" perk?

I don't think you understand the development cycle. You would need x10 the funding to develop a game for 10 times as long, and good luck getting people to invest in that. you would also be faced with technology several generations ahead of your original concept that would need to be included to stay competitive, which in turn rolls back progress and makes things more expensive.

I Dont think it would be rush. It took them how long to make the game ? All that time they are already working on the DLC. Again I would think the DLC is already about 60% done. So the rest mainly the story and whatever extra content should just take only a few months, I would think. Thing is 8 months out Skyrim is already explored, they almost HAVE to add in a landmass. I mean if it was released sooner then maybe they could incorporate more of the Skyrim province.

To me the idea of them rushing it doesnt make sense. It took them so long to make the game the DLC is already being made. Thats my point.

I could see being a bear. Maybe make Ulferth War-Bear a WEREBEAR.... get it ? I was just making fun of wereshark. That is so ridiculus it's funny.
