Why were these features not implemented?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 2:01 pm

Go to youtube.com and type in "Skyrim unadded features." Would've posted the links myself, but sadly there's no copy/paste. Anyways, I'd just like to know what large and convincing reason did Bethesda have to not add these features onto the game? Half of these seem really sensible and could've done well if they were in the game.

If you are referring to the game jam video, its because they were developed after the game was released. The team was given one week to develop what ever they wanted and that was the outcome.

I know, but why didn't they do that before the release? The features just look like what 99% of the people who bought Skyrim wanted to see.

Like always it's mostly because of deadlines. If Bethesda delayed Skyrim for a year or two they could have had time to add those in.

I wish they did. I don't mind getting a product 10 years later, as long as it'll be 10x times better if it did.

Because the game would have to have been significantly developed and tools in place for the individuals to develop and impliment their own ideas and Bethesada couldnt afford to have thier staff off doing what ever they wanted for a week while the game was in development.

No it was done long ago way before the game's release.

The simple answer is that they didn't have time. You'll notice some of them have been implemented since in patches, and no doubt more are coming. (Kill cams is the big one)

I hope they'll put it in some kind of future dlc or something. Also, I'd love to have the ability to be able to meet another player. No, I don't mean full-on multiplayer, with PvP and stuff, just the ability to be able to quest along with your friends. If they added this in a future dlc, then I'd bet more people will buy Skyrim(who didn't yet).

Many including me would consider TES dead at that point. The MMO announcement was horrible enough as it is.

They'll be adding more in for free. Why make it a DLC when you can just add it in a patch?

And TES will never have any kind of Multiplayer; that's why they are making TES Online. The series (1-5) will never be multiplayer.

Some have been added already, such as kill cams for ranged and magic attacks.

That's why I don't want full-on multiplayer with matches, servers and stuff. Hackers are stubborn and they'll surely find a way to hack it and destroy everything which will then be a disaster. I just want the ability to play the game along with someone that you know. That's it.

I thought the only purpose of a patch was to fix broken parts of the game?

Yes, of course. But along with fixes they added the new features on. Team Fortress 2 does the same thing.

A 'patch' is something that alters the game. A patch can fix issues, add new things, remove things. Anything that changes the game files can be a 'patch'.

Like I said, Beth has already added some of these in with patches, and I'm sure we'll see more.

Tell me what was added? Because my game's fully patched and so far I can't see anything being added.

Nope, they can add stuff as well, and already have.

As far as why it was left out - people have explained it rather well already, this is all stuff that happened after the game's completion and release. Without any deadlines to worry about, all studios in house (not just Bethesda, but all the studios under ZeniMax) got together for a week, and without having to actually develop content, were able to just add in whatever features they wanted. That's where all of this stuff comes from. Some of it has already been added, and I'm sure we'll see much more of it in the future as well.

The main one is killcams... It was shown in the game jam, and wasn't in Skyrim until the latest patch. (1.5) There are also game record types that were just added that show that they may possibly be adding some kind of new construction, perhaps the 'build your own cabin' thing from the game jam video.

Sounds great, but why didn't they add the better features? Like the Lycanthropy tree for example, that'd be interesting. Also, spell combinations will be a nice addition.

They've also added enhanced underwater visuals, and the X-Box Kinect compatibility.

Because that stuff is going to take more time to actually have to balance within the actual game.

See, the GameJam video stuff didn't have to be balanced. It just had to be put in there. If they want to add it as a legitimate feature, it is going to have to be balanced and properly implemented, which takes more time.

Smithing and enchanting are both far from balanced, yet they're still in the game.

Becuase those things take work. They don't just go "We'll add this one" and be done in five seconds.

Do you know how hard it would be to add a whole new skill tree and make it balanced and fit into the game well? I think not...

The game's already excellent in terms of graphics, so why did thy waste their time to make improved visuals and whatnot, when they could've added more gameplay?
