why why why? make dlc's exclusive?

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 2:22 am

there is no point? absolutely no point in making the dlc exclusive.. your going to release it for ps3 anyway? your going to make the same amount of money wether you release it now or in a couple months? well actually probably less because people will be so pissed off they will dump the game. its just so stupid?! what does it prove?! it wont make you more money and it will make more people hate microsoft? honestly what is the point!?

They get bonus money from MS because its Xbox360 exclusive. In the process they potentially lose some PC and PS3 customers, but most people will buy it when it is available for their system regardless, which means they dont really risk losing out on too many sales. I'm pretty sure they did their risk anolysis on these scenarios and figured its a win win situation.

On a side note I really dislike the new forum layout.

The games industry doesn't use "exclusive" like the rest of the English-speaking world does. And there's really no way of knowing whether they mean "on this platform before everybody else" or "only on this console and PC" or "only on this platform period" until after the fact. At this point, if you want to hate something, hate their vagueness. Save the high quality hardcoe loathing of their entire existence until their actual plans become apparent.

Simple answer is that it makes good business sense to do so.

And I'm sure they've crunched all the numbers and looked at all the results from FO3. It still makes good business sense to do so.

The greedy, spiteful, ignorant, selfish, corrupt, vile, villainous. low, sinful, careless, substandard, god-awful, cheesy, money obsessed marketing/accounting side of Bethesda & Obsideon are to blame.

I'm sure this topic has been covered, but I'll take the bait.

Yes, exclusive DLC svck for the consumers, but probably makes the companies money.

No matter how much some of the fans complain, you know damn well you'll buy it anyway. I know I will. And even if YOU don't enough people will still purchase it to make this exclusive DLC model pretty standard.

I'm just hoping it is more of a "point look out" than a "mother ship zeta."

I don't really mind Xbox getting it first. At least they will beta-test the DLC for us :D

I REALLY hate this new layout.

Yay for Microsoft!

Well not really. I may be a 360 really devoted fan [sic. auto-censor], but there's no real benefit for us getting it first. I mean I'd rather we all get it at the same time and share in it together, but hey if Microsoft wants to throw money at people and say "Hahahaha we got it first", well that's their right. I mean at least it's coming to the other systems. Some people own New Vegas on multiple systems so I guess Microsoft wins there if they end up buying it on the 360 when they would've preferred to get it on the PC, and Bethesda wins because those people are hardcoe enough they'll buy the DLC on the PC too probably.

It's just the way the world works, like the (EA)NFL.

I have an assumption about this issue which I believe is a good one. For FO3 the PS3 was still in a precarious situation. People thought that the unit was doomed to die a rapid and overpriced death. Creating DLC is a very costly enterprise and publishing it onto the consoles is also a costly step. I can almost hear Bethesda planning meetings about how expensive it would end up being if they pushed out the DLC on PSN and then the PS3 vanished. Then the PS3 took off like a shot. FO3 sold exponentially better than expected on the PS3 and PC. Now New Vegas comes along and they probably don't want to repeat the same mistakes...but wait! Well crap! If we release the DLC equally what reason is there for anyone to buy FO:NV on the 360? I mean 360 users have to buy a rather expensive subscription to XBOX live and THEN the DLC as well? Well we know that it is gonna sell like hotcakes on the PC and the PS3 so why not do a little preemptive strike on lack luster 360 sales and make the DLCs "exclusive" again. SURE THING BOSS!!! GREAT IDEA BOSS!!! WE WILL GET RIGHT ON THAT BOSS!! Hey guys do you think the boys over at MS will have a problem with this? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!

Also it could have been that M$ made it known that either they got "exclusivity" or they wouldn't allow the DLCs to be placed onto XBOX Live. M$ does indeed reserve the right to block content from their servers. I can't see Bethesda actually snubbing Sony fans and PC gamers because they make more money from those two.

Last time I checked, it was all about the money. It's called business - it's like a game but you keep score with money.

I use to say there weren't very many companies out there that cared about their customers to a degree. Every non-independent developer cares alot about money, but they also cared about fans. My list use to be Valve, Bethesda, and a few others id have to look up. Looks like the ones off the top of my head is just reduced to valve.

Weve been forced to be beta testers (not really, since we had to make a purchase first), and now their but [censored] people on the PS3. theres capitalism for ya

First, they get a large amount of money from Microsoft. Then, they release the DLC on other platforms later and still make money from those sales because, even though there are people who do lose interest by that time, there are people who would still buy it after the timed exclusivity. They do it because, in the long run, ZeniMax gets more money.

Well if its crap, only the xboxers will whine about it. Also the ones who is making the PC version will improve, tweak it and mod it and it will be the best thing for the PC gamers and the worst thing for the xboxers.

Microsoft is being petty and bunch of sooks because Beth and Obs picked steam over live. For me steam is better. Not prefect but better.

I don't care about PS3. They can they can whine all they like.

well, i look at it this way. if the dlc has a horrable bug that makes your system explode, the xbox users will be the ones who deal with it.

Spoiler
its kinda like how the great war happened, the west coast got bombed first which warned the east coast to hide in there little vaults.

sides, i still got alot of new vegas to play before i need a dlc.
