Why would Microsoft care about making the DLC exclusive to X

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:57 am

i have a ps3 yet i don't mind if xbox gets dlcs first as they are the "unoffical testers" for pc and ps3

for example when "the pitt" dlc came out for fallout on xbox it was very buggy and for some players the add-on was broken and unplayable due to missing textures, freezing every time it loaded.

when i got "the pitt" on my ps3 in october it hasn't frozen, had any bugs or missing any textures and yet xbox verisons are filled with bugs.

===============================================================================================================

another thing whilst looking on fallout wiki the xbox and pc versions on falllout NV are filled with bugs (the ps3 still has bugs but considerably less)

If there wasn't a profit to be made from this, Microsoft clearly wouldn't do it a second time.

I am curious why would Microsoft pay so much money to Bethesda for DLC exclusivity? Games can influence people to choose to buy one console over the other, but not DLC. People won't throw out their PS3 and buy an Xbox for DLC.
So I am wondering why would Microsoft care about buying the exclusivity rights for the DLC? How do they benefit? Do they even benefit, or is it just a way for them to flaunt how much money they have?

Hi I'm Bill Gates and have 90000000 million extra dollars, what am I gonna do today...I think I'll buy a random DLC exclusively..THAT'LL TEACH SONY!!!

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like everyone here believes that the DLC's for Fallout 3 came out for the XBOX 360 before the PC and PS3, when it came out the same time for both the XBOX 360 and PC, probably due to the fact they both use the Live Gaming system from Microsoft, whereas Fallout New Vegas uses Steam for the PC.

Of course that’s 2 markets, and they waited until September/October to release all of them for the PS3, around the same time the Game of the Year edition came out, I don't think they would push this that far now since 2 of their markets have been excluded, after all if they make a larger portion of their fans wait 9 months to play the expansion that should have already come out for them, then they will probably lose a good number.

Yea but still it is a Windows game (there is no mac version) so I don't see why Microsoft won't let PC players have it.

Maybe it has to do with Bethesda dropping gfwl from their DRM scheme. To kind of placate them. The exclusive lasted only three months. Not very exclusive if you ask me.

Microsoft charges for xbox live, while ps3 does not. This allows microcrap to worm its way into the spotlight, while pushing ps3 away. Fun fact Bill Gates owns a house with television screens on every wall, (the entire wall is a television ) this allows him to change his environment, in relation to his mood. But sadly Bill Gates only owns one tropical island. So untill he has the funds to manipulate our tectonic plates to create an island in his image. i hope everyone understands why Microsoft acts the way it does.

True, if I recall correctly though you only have to have a free silver membership to download game add-ons. Gold memberships are mainly for things like Netflix and online gaming.

Yea but that is limited exclusivity. It says so on small print on the bottom of the commercial. So they will be available to PC and PlayStation within the next few months probably.

i know that, just like i know DLC for FO NV will be available for ps3 and PC. but the fact that microsoft has more money to throw at game designers purely because they charge for online gaming and netflix makes me mad. I own a ps3 and x box 360, but i bought FO NV and balck ops for the ps3. From my experience with both consoles the ps3 tends to last longer, so i always buy multi console games for the ps3.
