Will Obsidian do a better job at balancing the game? : Fallout: New Vegas

the Fallout series is the flagship game now for bethesda, todd howard said not to be looking for ESV anytime soon so its not gonna be the next game they come out with, they are already working on FO4 its pretty obvious, otherwise pete hines wouldn't of made the statements he made regarding the fallout series. don't be looking for ESV anytime soon. Fallout is the game of the future for bethesda not ESV, thats not coming out for a long long time.

You have absolutly no idea what your talking about. If Bethesda was working on Fallout 4 they sure as hell wouldn't have lent the franchise to Obsidian at the same time. They are working on TES V and I'm willing to bet that shortly after New Vegas is released they will announce it for Fall 2011.

It is my hope that since this is an Obsidian game they will not be trapped in the same concepts of game balance as Beth I think Beth is too invested in concepts utilized in MO, OB, etc. I haven't played ANY of Obsidian's games so I can't say with any certainty. Alpha Protocol looks like the first game they have that would interest me at all.

Seeing that New Vegas is going to be made from the same people that did the first two Fallout, I would hope they would do a better job in not just balancing the game out compare the Fallout 3, but everything else as well.

I rather doubt that, in large quantity. Recent success does not automatically means it become Beth's "flagship". Its more that if they did say they are working of TES V, this place will go to hell with people coming here and expecting a things from Beth, like we are doing right now for New Vegas. Beth have a way of keeping quiet unless they know when it is the right time to tell the players what up.

todd howard said NOT to be looking for ESV anytime soon, that was after being pressed about it being the next bethesda release, so its not the next game they are coming out with, and FO3 came out late 2008 so late 2011 is about right for the next fallout game, and it true obsidian is making fallout new vegas, its gonna be a very good game and no way bethesda would of let them make a fallout game if they didn't have a fairly soon follow up to FO3. so you're gonna be dissapointed because TESV isn't gonna be the next game you see from bethesda, there's tons of midevil type games and they're capitolizing on the success of FO3. its a much more unique game with more possiblilities than TESV. but you can keep the dream alive if you want but you're gonna be waiting a long time for the next ES game.

.......so its not the next game they are coming out with, and FO3 came out late 2008 so late 2011 is about right for the next fallout game........

That a big assumption there of considering they are even considering doing another Fallout.

.....so you're gonna be dissapointed because TESV isn't gonna be the next game you.........

From that source? That stupid article alone brought the TES General Discussion to moronic hell for a week. It was clarify by Pete himself:

Apparently some folks got a bit upset by reports based on Todd’s talk at QuakeCon last week. An article came out where Todd was quoted as saying we had no plans for a TES V. He did not say that. That was not a direct quote from him. That was someone’s interpretation of what he said. I know, I was there.

At his QuakeCon talk he was asked when TESV is coming out and Todd replied, “Don’t look for a new Elder Scrolls game in the near future.” He also went on to say how much the franchise means to us and that it definitely will continue. He just wasn’t going to provide any timeframe on “when.” This should not be news to anyone that has been paying attention. Both Todd and I have said repeatedly that, of course, we’re going to do another Elder Scrolls game. The last one was enormously popular. So was the one before that. You get the idea. So do we.

Todd and Bethesda Game Studios are hard at work on their next big game, and we’re not ready to discuss it. As always, we prefer to have something amazing to show when we talk about it. We aren’t going to confirm or deny or comment on speculation, nor are we going to give hints about anything. If you know us by now, you know we don’t really do that.

In regards to the MMO comment, he was asked if there was “any chance of an Elder Scrolls MMO” and he replied — in a joking fashion — by saying “I guess there’s a chance.” To be clear, Todd and his team do not make MMOs, for any franchise, at all. We have another division – ZeniMax Online Studios – which is lead by Matt Firor, and they are working on an MMO. They have not said anything about what game they are making. When ZeniMax Online is ready to show what they are up to, we’ll let everyone know. Until then we aren’t going to provide hints or speculate on what they’re doing either.

Bethesda like to accommodate the majority of players, so tailor the settings to what the average player is likely to want. Obsidian are taking an extra step to add in a hardcoe mode for those players who want things to be especially difficult. Giving extra choice, where feasible, is generally a positive thing.

It's very cool that Oscuro now works for Obsidian. He joins an excellent "club" of modders-turned-devs including http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2286, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=44 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2576 - all employed by Bethesda - to name but a few. Todd's always said that if you can demonstrate what you can do with the tools, it's always more effective than just having the right resume.

Anyway, this has got very off-topic now so I'm going to close this. The above-quoted clarification post should put paid to any odd rumours.
