Goats are well known for just eating whatever they find.

I'd support something like this. Realistic? No. Fun? Yes.

I've always wondered why you couldn't tame a wolf or sabre cat with a piece of meat. Then maybe they might follow you and protect you for awhile hoping for more. Or why you couldn't feed apples to horses and get them to follow you... wouldn't be stealing then, if the horse just willingly came with you.

I've been waiting for that since MW...

Well that`s cute.

But if you tried chucking a piece of meat at a sabretooth tiger to tame it, it would eat the meat then eat you, or perhaps eat you then eat the meat. Horses don`t just follow you cos you gave them an apple, I know cos I tried it in real life. They eat the apple the n when they find you have no more they ignore you. Oh and if the horse belonged to someone else, it would be stealing, even if the horse willing came with you.

Oh, sorry, am I disturbing your fantasy? My bad.

There is a dragon shout that you can get to tame animals

But that's only a temporary spell, correct? I haven't even looked at that.

I would like an animal with me as companion. Not as big as a sabercat, but a wolf would be nice. Doesn't have to fight, unless it wants to. Or you could have a training skill to improve your companion's combat skills.

The effects lasts for a long time."Level 3 goes around 1 hour of duration" i think.

Bribing a wild animal? well, you'd still be eaten or bitten. Bribing a creature like a troll? possible, although unlikely.

It'd be nice if some animals in the world didn't immediately attack you from a distance and if you met them enough times they'd be 'conditioned'.
Once conditioned, they could be tamed by clicking on them and gifting an appropriate food type to them.
This would make them fight for you randomly on a fast travel radiant attack from enemies or if you are near to them in the wilderness.

If you gave them x10 of the appropriate food type, they can become a companion. Giving them x25 food over time will give you the chance to adopt.
This would set your house as their homebase. Giving them x50 of this food will allow you to rename them from like "Wolf" to "Skar" etc.
The specific food type will also allow you to heal your faithful companion when out of combat, instead of using a spell.

I don't know, just an idea. But yeah, I've been hoping taming would come to play in an Elder Scrolls sometime soon.
I mean I've always played a Druid or a Ranger in RPGs, if I wanted to do this in ES I'd need to invest in being a mage-archer or conjurer mage.
Which just isn't the same concept. Makes me feel like Bethesda has never really supported the 'nature player' in their games, which looks true.

I want a vorpral bunny. You may laugh at me now, but King Arthur and his Knights wasn't laughing after they came upon one. It dosen't matter to me if they have a 100% weakness to Holy Handgranades, they'll roflstomp a Nordic ruin in less than 5 minutes!

@http://www.gamesas.com/user/11861-gaelsong/ I don't know if you're on the PC or not, and I know this isn't at all what you really want, but maybe it would make do in the meanwhile? http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4034

The animals could have many different reactions. Meat might not work at all, It might work sometimes, or an animal could pick up the meat and take it to her pups, which I've seen happen IN REAL LIFE. Or maybe just let you pass on by.

Maybe they might suddenly stop dead in front of you and start sniffing meaning you've got something they like. Toss out the wrong thing and get mauled.

Having one follow you or remember you would just be a bennie.

Test your theory with a pack of wild wolves

With the horse point, I don't think the owner would say "well the horse wants to go, so I don't care if I lose the money" ha.

Well I was thinking of a stabled horse. In the dark of night.

Or, for example, I found a horse unhitched from it's carriage and ended up killing the bandits who owned it so I rode him cross country, but then he abandoned me. Maybe if I could have given him an apple or two he might stay with me...

Jack in the box?Holy...just joking.Anyway you are not bribing animals, you are distracting/calming them by giving easy food.If you want them to follow you,you need like a guy suggested here..alot of food.
