With a 50 Level cap the skill rate is too high.

Post » Fri Jun 10, 2011 10:04 pm

I think that Obsidian has not thought ahead with the skill rate system when they decided to raise the level cap per DLC.

For one thing, no level specific perks exist past level 26 or so, and the rate of skill gain per level is too high if you take a level 50 character into account.

I thought that Obsidian should either have kept the level cap at 30 to encourage people to try different builds of characters more, instead of having max all skills character at 50. Also increasing the amount of XP required per level would help with this.

Otherwise another solution would be to reduce again the amount of skill points allowed per level to INT / 2 + 5, instead of the current INT / 2 + 10.

Thoughts?

Eh, honestly, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. My characters are already at God level after 30 anyway, so whats the difference?

I just hope it doesn't break my game like it did in FO3.... because right now at lv 40 I only have 2 or 3 skills that arent 100.

Why do we have to use a trait to get rip of what shouldn't be there?

Honestly I completely forgot about it.... I'll prolly make one char lv 50 just to say I did it, then cap the rest at 30.

I expect some much more difficult content in the future that extends beyond a bunch of tribals in hides and bare skin that take damage like they're in reinforced combat armor. I want multiple opponent encounters emphasised, not just a single buffed dude hitting me like he's an Alpha Deathclaw with a poisoned gauntlet made out of a mantis foreleg.

They should've raised the skill caps beyond 100 as well and level the enemies with you to some extent.

By the time I am at level 40, I would have put enough points to max at 100 at every skill that I actually use. The only reason I would want to go to level 50 is get some more perks, hell I will be dumping points into skills I never use.

I'll probably end up making more 1 intelligence characters since I will probably max out at all the skills I really need with just 1 intelligence.

hahahha! No, but seriously. Every one can relax. Many NPC's level up with you. Use the Living Anatomy and you will see this. They should still be tougher than what they are though.

Not a bad idea as long as you dont mind talking like a 2nd generation Super Mutant. Dr Usinagi will even give you a discount for an intelligence implant cause she feels sorry for you.

Old World Blues will allow you to aquire a trait, in exchange for being forever capped at level 30, or whatever level you're presently at (if over 30).

Not to concerned I doubt I'll hit 50 with any character unless they turn evil and throw in a trophy for it, then theres the cap in OWB, I think that their trying to give both sides what they want some people liked the cap at 30 where there was still some challenge and others wanted it raised so they could max every skill and be ridiculously overpowered they've now let us choose how we want the game to be. Although I do think this was forced through by bethesda due to the incesant whining of the ridiculously overpowered demographic.

Truthfully, I can't see how this should matter to anyone. If you feel your too overpowered, stop wearing armor, bringing companions, or using weapons. To someone wanting impossible challenges, a unarmed and unclothed character on very hard hardcoe, radiated for good measure, is pretty freakin' hard! So, if the idea of your character just waltzing throught the wastes is frightening, it's not like you won't have options to increase the difficulty. Besides, being able to level to 50 will take a full playthrough with all the DLC's, at least a 80 hour game, so it's not like the work doesn't have to go into a game before a player is god-like. I'll probably take one or two of my characters all the way, but like Fallout 3, just getting that high leveled once will probably remove all impulse to try to make it again.

You won't need to .You could be unconscious and as long as your body is somewhat facing them they will just explode franticly .

I for one look forward to being able to shed my heavy load of guns, chems and food so I can walk around with only my fists and conquer everything/everybody. I will have fun with that.

Well, this is why i buy games for the PC. It is easy enough to either modify skillpoint and perk gain to make level 50 reasonable, or cap the level at 30 and increase XP gain to make it the same as level 50.

I have the ultimate edition of New Vegas (for me) :hehe:

You swallow pillows?

Will people who don't want God Mode have to give up a trait to take the level 30 cap at the start of the game? Or will it be a popup message before we leave Doc Mitchell's house like for hardcoe mode?
