Is it worth keeping unopened PS3 Skyrim?

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 2:39 pm

Hi, all. I received a copy of Skyrim (PS3) for xmas, but I have avoided opening it yet given all the issues the game has been having. While I prefer gaming on my PS3, I do have an xbox, as well. Is there any compelling reason not to exchange the PS3 version for an xbox version? From everything I am reading, the PS3 version sounds like an entirely busted game.

Beyond that, is it worth exchanging the game for the xbox version, or should I just get a refund. I am excited to play the game, but I have to say that as a consumer, I am offended by the concept of paying $60 (the same price as, for instance, Uncharted 3 or Portal 2) for a defective product. The only way to truly send a message that this is unacceptable is to vote with my wallet.

Any thoughts from the community are appreciated as I make my decision.
Thanks.

Please. Do yourself a favor and take the game back if there's even a CHANCE you can.

Get the Xbox360 version. My friend has beaten then game on his 360 and I have yet to
finish it on my PS3 due to the horrendous lag/freezing. Here's actually right beside me-
he likes the reference.

I guess you'd have to ask the XBOX folks, or just return it.

I would exchange it for the Xbox version, if that were an option for me. There will still be bugs to deal with, and possibly framerate or texture issues unless the upcoming fix addresses them; however there are fewer reports of frequent freezes and hard crashes on the Xbox.

Don't get a refund. Many people have been playing this game without many issues. It is with out a doubt one of the top three games of the past decade. Don't short yourself the experience of playing Skyrim out of the fear being cast by many on this forum. I've had my issues with the game, but if someone else can have a better experience than myself....more power to you!

Now if you are one of those people that has both Xbox and PS3, then I would exchange it for the Xbox version because it is more stable on that console. Enjoy Skyrim!!!

Naaaaaaaa keep it !!!!! May become a collecters item some day, as most of the games may be destroyed by the owners instead of being returned.

It isn't fear. It's experience.

In the last two months, I have experienced several hard freezes, one of which put the PS3 in an infinite file recovery loop, requiring a clean install of the OS; have had to enter the Safe Mode menu and reinstall the Game Data almost weekly; have reinstalled the 4.0 firmware three times; along with trying a 5400rpm, 7200rpm and SSD to resolve the lag issues...yet the game sits on my shelf, waiting for the next patch, because when I tried to start a new character recently, Alduin just never showed up and the game froze when I tried to quit.

So yes, I would gladly exchange it for the Xbox version.

Just go get the 360 or PC version if you can return it. And......

Watch yourself when doing the Thieves Guild Quests, they can break......
Watch yourself when doing the Companions quests, they can break.....
Watch yourself when you're doing the quests in Markarth, specifically the Cidhna Mine ones. They can break......
Watch yourself when picking up quest items if you don't have the quest. That can break the quest......

In fact, it's best to save before every quest. If your quest breaks, reload your save and check out one of the elder scrolls wikis on how to avoid the bugs. Fun game, eh? They should have called it Bug Hunt 2011.

If you were not considering returning it already you would not have posted this within a problem dedicated to problems. You cannot be serious when you ask a forum full of users with problems if you should keep the product.
All of that aside, I would say to keep the game. I have not had any major bugs or lag, 250 hours in at this point, and I am having a lot of fun. It is true, you may see bugs or may see extreme lag, so the choice is yours in the end.

Return it. You do not want a gift to be a cause of angst & frustration if u have a choice. If u hear the game gets its major bugs & broken quests fixed, buy it later for the best rated platform at a cheaper price.

I like this game for PS3 because it is fun, has never hard-locked my PS3 like all the "whiners" complain about. Prove it! I also like not having to worry about quests getting broken, graphical problems, animation problems, audio problems, and it just plain works! Anyone experiencing problems is either lying to you or is demanding too much from such a vast, open-world game. You guys need to barely talk to anyone and finish quests as you receive them... Duh! It is soooo simple! Use logic you guys! Play the game more carefully because if you are experiencing problems I am 100% sure it is YOUR fault for not playing the game right. Also, turn off auto-save and clean up after yourselves! You guys leave objects laying on the ground all over the map and expect the game to work right? Is your room that messy? The PS3 just can't handle this perfect award-winning game unless you play it better! Bethesda is the most honest and amazing developers ever! Open your eyes people! This game rocks! My PS3 version is mint I don't even know why they are working on more patches for people who complain!

Wait... >.>

It IS opposite day right?

Take it back for a full refund, or trade it in and exchange it for a different game, but not necessarily the same game on the Xbox 360. I recommend Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Those games are EPIC even if you don't like superheros, and from my understanding were both built on the PS3 first then ported to the Xpaper Weight 360, instead of the other way around. Arkham City really should have won GOTY over Rimlag this year, because Arkham City is a true GOTY title, and is definitely a more quality product than Skyrim is. Arkham Asylum/City won't crash, won't freeze, won't drop frame rate at all, there's no bugs(that I know of) and both are all round very very enjoyable games.

Yeah it's reeally got to ruffle the feathers of other developers, who put way more quality into their games. Bethesda comes off as not appreciative of it's PS3 customers at all. I would go as far as saying Bethesda appreciates it's PS3's customers less than any other developer right now. They see us as $$$. They will never get close to even hinting at an apology, and if they do I will be very VERY surprised. But I have lost all hope for the games they make and this will be the last one if within the next month it is still as unfinished and just plain broke as it is now... The unfinished state of this so-called GOTY award wining game has got to really piss off a lot of people in the business that actually have testers play their games pre-launch and fix the problems they find PLAYING THE GAME. Some might even be thinking, when this beta game's sales is doing just as good or better than our game, why do we even put in the effort. This is crazy because you KNOW they knew about the state of the PS3 version, they couldn't NOT have known about them unless they just played it for a couple hours and if they only had like 2 or 3 people play it at all before release. It's obvious Bethesda has horrible QA and game coders, yet they are good at making money and winning awards. And with this generation being able to release unfinished games because they know they can always patch them to finish them AFTER release, why should any game be released in a final state? I say we release games now before they even add textures or have an ending. Then we could pay them money and we get to play two games for the price of one, the super quirky and fun "beta game", and the "Will the patches fix this game... game". I just can't wait for 1.4! I giggle with anticipation because I know Bethesda will fix this... right? NO, I do not.

Now watch this thread get locked and vanish from the lineup...

This forum is our venting venue. And if we can't vent here we will vent somewhere else. Let us vent because we all know Bethesda's upper-management doesn't read anything on this forum. They most likely just get a short summary at the end of every week or 2, mostly full of people praising them for all their great quality work... The whole situation makes me sick, I fell for the promises you made for this game, but I now see you for what you truly are.......... and I'm not going to say it because I am trying to be as civil as I possibly can. Ugh...

Edit: I posted this in a new thread and it was immediately locked and the mod said "under review" does that mean a ban is probably coming my way?

i have had the game since launch and have played it every day.i have not had ANY of the issues mentioned and neither have my friends who also have ps3

these are MINIORTY issues and you are just doing yourself a bad turn by missing out on this amazing game.

even if you do get these issues by the time your at that high a level the patch will be out

PLAY AND ENJOY DONT BE PUT OFF BY THE MINORITY
