Would like to know about other pure mages

Yeah, I did Resto/Destructin on my first mage. Never got dual casting of either or Impact, as I liked to use a ward+spell, or healing+attack spell. Even as destruciton goes, I prefer the rapid fire two handed attack (I've dropped a dozen charging Falmer with ice spikes firing like a machine gun) over the big combo shot.
See, so do I but the thing is, eventually, depending on difficulty, that becomes impossible due to,

The Lack of Spell Scaling.

The Lack of Spell Making.

The Lack of Spells.

...Unless you have the 100% Destro Decrease thing going or turn the difficulty down.

Otherwise, you get shoehorned into getting the Impact perk if you want any amount of killing power, even if said power derives from spaming like an epileptic.

Anyone who tells you there's nothing wrong with Destruction is Lying, a Sycophant, a Troll, or a Moron. Plain and simple.

i used all the schools every school has an application in combat but as for destruction i used fire on my average foes and i used ice on the exceptionally strong foes to slow them and damage there stamina and my electric magic obviously was almost exclusively used against hostile mages. i used wards alot usually in combination with a destruction spell or the bound sword spell.

Something else to consider is the travel time of the spell. Lightning and thunderbolt travel much faster than their flame or cold counterparts. An archer can dodge even AOE fire spells but will get struck instantly by a lightning spell.

There's a mod that fixes that (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2275), but I guess if you don't play on PC you're just SOL.

Seconded. The Balanced Magic Mod rules. I will never go back to vanilla magic ever again.

I'm SOL then.

And so are many mates worldwide. Bethesda might fix it.

But I won't hold my breath.

I'm using Destruction, Alteration, and a little bit of Restoration.
So far so good on master difficulty.

Unless you have any sort of Magic Absorb ability. Since the summon is actually targeted on you, it will sometimes be absorbed. Which means it doesn't cost any mana, but you still have to cast it again until it doesn't get absorbed (depends on how high your magic absorption rate is). There's a mod that fixes this on PC and makes summons always work, but everybody else will just have to deal with it. Or not take any Magic Absorb abilities.

I see. I tested that by using Dragonskin and then conjuring lower and higher entities. It's only supposed to absorb magic from hostile spells though so it's a bug, right? It didn't always fail on my test but it did sometimes. For my first game, I'm sticking with vanilla Skyrim and we'll what the coming patches do. Later I might try all kinds of mods. :)
