lol , skyrim is miles ahead of oblivion . oblivion graphics are horrible compared to skyrim. The graphics engine for oblvion was poor even when released , it looked good in screenshots but was horrible while moving , so clunky, skyrims while not the latest tech looks lovely and has some great design.

I would play it over oblivion if it had oblivion's graphics as i think its a much better game .

Skyrim's graphics aren't really "next gen" at all, but they're still pretty damn impressive. To answer your question: No. The RPG elements (story and dialogue) are so lacking that without good graphics the game would lost much of its appeal.


I think people don't notice as much, as the graphical leap from Morrowind to Oblivion was much more obvious and significant than the leap from Oblivion to Skyrim.

If I still play old as hell games like Granstream Saga, what do you think?

I'd probably still play it once because I love the series, but then the gap between Skyrim and the other 2011 games that use 2011 technology would be even more upsetting.

I really love Skyrim, but then again, I really love hiking and sight seeing.

Question should be rephrased. The art direction is very good and by careful use of lighting and a few basic effects the game look very good. But the engine is very old. I often wonder how Skyrim would look on Morrowind engine. I think that, due to the bad weather often found in skyrim having a very short view due to FOW effect wouldn't hurt overall the game but only add atmosphere.

The Wtcher 2 Enhanced Edition will be released in April for xbox 360.

I don't play Skyrim anymore, but if the benefit of having Oblivion's graphics meant having it's magic system*... I would still be playing it.

I would feel the same about Skyrim no matter what the graphics, just like I feel the same about Daggerfall and Morrowind despite their graphics.

Graphics to me are not very high on the list when it comes to RPG's.

They exist, but their mostly MMOs or from indie devs. EA is a huge part of the problem and other giant publishers don't help either. They try to make every game as successful as COD. And they blame piracy when a game does not sell well on PC. I wonder what ea's excuse is for why crysis 2 was a flop...Not that it was an atrocity committed against gaming in general(because it WAS a new game and a new franchise, it was not a sequal to crysis), but people pirated it.

PC gaming only grows these days. And with the next gen, there is be such a large base of people who already have computers way more powerful we may see more exclusives. Or at least more games MADE for PC, then ported over.

I don't mind about graphics as much as gameplay but i do admire the graphics in Skyrim to make it alot more realistic! I still play PS1 games like tomb raider and stuff and that game is amazing!

As for topic: if skyrim had Morrowind graphics then probably not but as far as i'm concerned oblivion and skyrim are still this generation of gaming. PC games are irrelevant to generation topic mostly cause generation is based off home console games. Since PC's can be altered and improved manually through new parts there's no real definition for generation for them.

Aye, when someone says last gen graphics, they are solely referring to the last generation of console, which was the xbox, we are now using the xbox 360. The xbox 360 will not be last gen until the next xbox comes out. On a different note.... I feel my years old investment on a console is much better than spending 1000's of dollars on a PC that will be useless in a few years, case and point, my computer costed me more than I'd ever spent on home entertainment before, and it cannot come close to handling skyrim... (this computer is not as old as my xbox). To get back to the topic at hand... If skyrim had morrowinds graphics I'd still play.

Well, seeing as how capabilities are always changing, and there will always be something out there that only really top-end systems can utilize fully, are consoles ever really "current gen"? They're mass-produced, but it seems if you want the best experience you need to shell out a ton of money for a more specialized system. So to me, there's always going to be a lag between what's possible and what's actually readily available.

And no, I wouldn't play Skyrim if the graphics took a leap backwards, for the same reason I barely play it now - it's just not that fun or exciting for me. I still get more enjoyment out of Morrowind and Oblivion (or even Two Worlds, for that matter).

Graphics do not matter to me so much. The art in Skyrim is amazing who cares if its not the most beautiful game in the world. Gameplay matters graphics is just fluff.
