xbox 360 disc cracked

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 11:41 am

The game has always been pretty tough to take out or put in the case. Because of this i noticed tiny cracks forming around the center of the disc. Is this common with the game? My copy is still perfectly playable and have had no problems... yet. I have a feeling that this will eventually cause the game to stop working or break. Am I the only one with a case that seems defective?

If it breaks you could http://www.gamesas.com/eng/contact_email.php and ask for a replacement copy.

Hasn't happed to mine. But that may be due to the fact that the disk has not seen the case since I started playing.

Pics or it didn't happen! :P

But I'm not sure what you can do. Can you burn it to another CD?
(If that is legal)
I don't think you can claim a new one from Beth, they want to earn money, right?

I have a problem like that. The plastic interior ring is starting to chip and peel on the edges and i noticed two tiny cracks forming... However the interior plastic ring doesnt have anything that can effect playback i guess. What i am worried about is damage to the disc drive. If the disc hole gets cracked, bigger, uneven, i wonder if itll spin wrongly inside the xbox damaging it

Contact Bethesda for sure if it's about to break; send them a picture as well.

I just leave my case open and place the disk on the ring without pushing it down onto it. Unless you really have to store it inside the case, I would quit pressing it down onto that ring.

I have seen many discs that that happens to. I usually install to the hard drive. So the disc just sits in the drive as proof I own the game. Even scratched and cracked, it wouldn't matter. If you install to your hard drive, the game plays from there.

This is due to the plastic type now being used by the industry- disk breakage is common. It happened to my disk of Skyrim. I don't believe Bethesda will replace it.

The problem is the attachment arrangment in the case wears the disk and breaks it- not the xbox. this problem has become widespread. None of my older Elder Scrolls games ever developed this problem- Skyrim did almost immediately. I dont believe the material is any less thick, but it may have changed composition.

PS, if the cracks are not too developed, you can use superglue to attempt to slow the process. But the cracks will grow- just like a windshield crack. ONce they reach the information area of the disk it is garbage.

I'm debating a small drill bit to punch a hole in front of the advancing crack. I don't believe you can marr the writing on the edge of the inner circle, but you can if the material is blank.

just set it ON the ring, dont press it down. your game will be fine like that as long as you arent banging the case around and dropping it everywhere.

Personally,I don't think just playing from the hardrive is good for the reader.

I always tear off several phlanges of plastic from the retaining fixture at the center of the case. I did that with Skyrim and it still broke. Next time I'm tearing them all off.

Playing from the hard drive saves huge wear and tear on the disc srive. That's the whole point. No differnt than running any software from a hard drive. Same as PC.

I may have learned something here- you guys serious about playing from the hardrive? I always install the games to the drive, but use the disk as well. I should simply keep the disk in the case after I install it?

Nope, won't work. The disc has to be in the drive when you start the game

You need the disc in the drive to prove ownership. Otherwise, you could just rent or borrow games and install em. It reads the disc just to verify that you own it. But the game plays off the hard drive.

I wouldn't drill or punch a hole, unless you intend on also treating the opposite side of the disc in a similar manner.

id modify the case to stop any more removal wear, install to reduce read wear and prey like hell. good id about drill a tiny hole to stop the crack spreading could be worth it but becareful i dought youd get a replacement if you drill a hole through it lol.

this happened to my Madden NFL 11 disc. Easiest thing to do is put it into a CD Sleeve instead of it's case. My Madden 11 still works to this day, and it has a 90 degree 1/2" crack on it. DONT mess with it, just leave it, and take good care of it from here on out and you should be fine.

If you have to put it in the case, press the tab down BEFORE you place the disc on it, instead of just mashing it into the case till you hear a 'click'. This will prevent damage to the disc, and only takes 1 extra second . It's a nice habit to get into, for all your games sake.
