So my Xbox finally kicked the bucket.

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 11:49 pm

No, no red rings of death. It started feeling sick around Sunday evening when I tried to give it a meal of BF3 it threw it up and hasn't opened its mouth since.

Aka I put my BF3 mult-player disc in and it got laser burned on the disc, now my gun won't appear in multiplayer and it takes the shooting out of a shooting game. I then tried to use an old game on it to see whether it was the game or the console. Now the tray won't even open.

I've had it for 5 years or so when the Xbox first came out, it was an arcade version and its white. It once had 3 red rings but somehow it still worked even though it sounded liek a jet engine. I think it had a good run anyways considering I never had to turn it in to get fixed or replaced.

But the timing is horrible. Skyrim just about to come out. I'm a bit strapped for cash this week.

How much will an old console fetch at gamestop. I plan on selling a few games aswell to get a new console(probrably used). I might even have to wait till Monday(:crys:) since the bank is closed on friday and I get my check on Thursday.

Any ideas on where to sell and what to do? Be great.

Excuse me?

I wasn't asking for a handout or trying to make people feel sorry for me. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what I should do. should I just go ahead and sell or should I try and get it fixed or what not. Or if anyone knew a good way to buy a used xbox.

So please keep comments like that to yourself.

Perfect timing. Are you getting Skyrim for the 360 by chance?

I recommend the newer, sleeker ones. Apparently they are much better because they are cool looking. (Yea)

Do what FPSRussia does with his XBOXs. fill it with Binary explosive and shoot it with a Browning M2... or just a standard .308 rifle if you cannot get a Browning M2... damn gun laws, always ruining all our fun...

I KNOW! How about use a Mark 19? it will take out the need for binary explosives...

If you have a good size Harddrive you could just get the slim Black 360. Getting both the slim and Skyrim won't be cheap but it would be better long term.

How does your current 360 work if you install the game to the harddrive, that might be something to check on before jumping to get a new 360 and if it's still having problems if the game is installed then get the slim. If you can't get a slim before Skyrim comes out, then you'll have to save up money until you have enough to get the slim and Skyrim.

Sounds like you just need a new disk drive for your 360, those are very easy to replace assuming you have the necessary tools (and don't mind voiding your warranty, which I'd assume is expired anyway). It would probably be cheaper than buying a new console.

Eureka!!!!!

I'd go with this. If you get a cheaper Xbox and your hard drive is good, then why not? Unless your hard drive is bad... Is the hard drive bad?

Some gamestores will repair your console for you. The local one here does, not sure about the chain stores though.

Don't bother with Gamestop. You can be sure they will give you the lowest possible money for you Xbox if you sell it to them. Either see if someone can fix it or sell it on eBay for like 30 bucks.

Wait and get a gaming PC , you can get one for around 500 or 600 and enjoy Skyrim with awesome mods.

I definitely suggest getting the Xbox 360S.
My original white 360 with a 10 GB harddrive gave out after 3 years of admirable service. I never once got the RRoD, but it eventually just wouldn't read some games, would get really hot in a well ventilated area and would freeze at random moments. When I finally decided to pack it in I hadn't played Gears of War 2 in months. :ahhh:
The 360S is pricey, but it's the same amount as a PS3 at about $300, it comes with 250 GB so feel free to install a few games on their, it comes with a built in fan, it doesn't sound like a helicopter starting its engines and it has a built in wifi adapter. You also get a cable that allows you to transfer over your saved files from your old harddrive. I'd only suggest not getting the Kinect with it, from what I hear it's simply not necessary.

I have this fear that if I go ahead and buy the nice version the next gen consoles might be announced.

I plan on finding a used xbox. The only game I plan on playing for awhile is skyrim and BF3 and i never really have ap roblem with data storage on my hard drive.

What I would like to know if you trade it in do used consoles come with the wires/hard drive and such?

If you live near a junk store, just the console on a normal xbox 360 will go for about $60. That's what I did when mine went pfhurr a few months ago.

As for trading in yours, gamestop only sometimes takes in defective consoles for money. If they do, it won't be for a lot, unfortunately.
