I follow sports teams, athletes, and sports writers. For an avid fan like myself, I've found Twitter to be an invaluable resource, especially for soccer and baseball. I have a few friends that I follow as well.

Most of what I tweet about is sports related.

Still not entirely sure what Twitter is

All I know is there has been a significant rise in perfectly sane people chirping like birds

I use twitter a lot to get news and updates from people and companies I like. I'm not following any of my friends on twitter because they are all annoying idiots who shouldn't be allowed to use social networks. (well most of them anyway. One friend of mine had a bacon cheeseburger last week and he posted 62 pictures of it on Facebook.)

This pretty much, I have most tweets sent straight to my phone so I very rarely go to the actual website.

It's a mashup of cell phones, text messaging, and weblogs. Three of my least favorite things rolled into one package.

The only "social media" I use are my email and forums like this one.

Think I've used a cell phone less than two dozen times, and I've never sent a text. And if it weren't for Kongregate having one alongside it's Flash games, I'd be able to say I never used a chat room.

I did post a good bit on Usenet back in the pre-WWW days. But that's kind of like forums.

Twitter isn't a social networking site in the sense of Facebook or Google+ at all. Twitter is an information and news hub with some social characteristics.

Anyway, yes I use Twitter (see sig). I follow pen testers, hackers, and sysadmins primarily. My posting on twitter is inversely proportional to how busy I am, finally having some free time to tweet every now and again.

Generally I tweet about security updates, security vulnerabilities, new viruses/worms, recent cool things in tech (ICS and Windows 8 in recent times), retweet interesting things hackers and pen testers tweet, and similar stuff. Occasionally something about me sneaks in, but mostly it is completely informational.

I made an account so I could enter the Tuesday Tweetbates on Xbox Live but I never could understand the uses of '@' and '#' so I gave up.

Don't have Facebook, MySpace, Google-anything (well, except YouTube, since they bought it ages ago).

I do have Twitter, and I use it mostly during baseball season to "talk & cheer" & play-by-play with other like-minded fans during live broadcasts of the games. It's rather fun when you can't go to the ballpark itself. Other than that tho, I don't use or login to Twitter very often, almost never during non-baseball season. Follow a few fave actors & the like but I almost never see/read their tweets, so I'm not sure why I bother. heh

Some of the programmers on the forums should work together to create a Twitter bot that tweets the best BSF posts each day. :P

I follow John Green, Hank Green, Maureen Johnson, some other youtubers and some friends. To be honest I don't actually tweet, I have it tied to my tumblr so that when I post on tumblr it tweets a link to my posts. Because I usually post some Stephen fry stuff on my tumblr blog I've been followed by a stephen fry fan twitter account and have been retweeted quite a lot.

I have a Twitter account but only use it to follow people - I think I have only ever "tweeted" twice and one of those was a re-tweet.

Use it for news, but when I get bored of spams from a friend, I just spam back if I'm not in the mood

I do not tweet. I've been to twitter before, but that was just to look at a few hackers.

I started a Twitter account during the summer for a little self promotion and quickly realized how boring those tweets are. I'm now trying to convert it into more of a micro blog on things I find interesting. This made me curious:

What do you use Twitter for?

To talk to friends?
To find news?
To shop?
To find funny tweets?
Just to see what's trending?
Other? (Explain)

Anyone here have a very popular Twitter page?

What do you tweet about, mostly?

I'm @SentientSurfer -- shocking, isn't it?

Mine is promotion for a story I wrote. The same story from my signature, at the moment, thatyoualloughttoreadanyhow. I also follow people I find interesting like Gstaff, Pete, Burnie Burns, Joel Heyman, Bear Grylls, people like that.

I'm @Jeroic9, if anyone's interested.

Never bothered with it, I don't think I care about any 1 thing enough to follow it religiously.

I just tweet links to anything I find interesting. Sometimes it overlaps with my Facebook/Tumblr accounts i.e. I'll send the same thing to more than one network, but I have a much higher volume of communication on Twitter and I often retweet things I find funny/interesting.

The main purpose of Twitter, so I've found, is to circulate videos of cats falling over.

I also write for two music/entertainment blogs and tweet links to new posts on that - so it's cats falling over and noise rock from me, mostly. And about half the daily contents of Buzzfeed.com, which is a great source of baby animals being humiliated.

I don't follow many people because too many people tweet about politics (yawn) or what they had for breakfast. I only really follow people who use it much the same way as I do.

What if you followed Epic Meal Time? Then would breakfast tweets be okay?

Oh, yeah - that reminds me. I gave up my Youtube account because I didn't want anything to do with some Google attempt at being Facebook. (Or whatever that thing was supposed to be.)

Only used it to keep track of some favorites, so it wasn't really a big loss.

I don't use twitter or any social sites.

EDIT: unless you consider this forum a social site.
