NEW YORK

This is a very important question:

Do you

A. broadly mean New York state, in general?

or

B. ...Wait, there's a state called New York, not just a city?

B tends to be the more popular option with people that are from outside New York state. :P

In my country: I'd like to live in Paris for a few years, but it's very expensive and I wouldn't want to live in the suburbs. Apart from that, I don't know. Savoy? Burgundy? Not southern France that's for sure, I don't like their accent.

Anywhere in the world: Somewhere in the Alps, maybe. Otherwise somewhere else in Europe, don't really see myself living on another continent, except maybe in North America (in Canada).

It's pathetic how after in everything UK, france, spain and nerly all other countries in europe is compared to Finland.

What?

I used to think I'd want to live in Aruba, but then, after using http://www.ifitweremyhome.com/compare/listing, I realized that the lovely climate might not outweigh http://www.ifitweremyhome.com/compare/US/AW.

Now I think I'd like to live in http://www.ifitweremyhome.com/compare/US/BM. B)

That says it all, my rock is superior to one of the biggest superpowers on earth. B)

Except for money, but I knew that. No chance of becoming rich here.

Thanks for rewriting it, I see what you mean now. I can't say that I agree or disagree with you since I've never been to Finland and therefore can't compare. However I generally haven't had any problems with hotels in Western Europe. There was this one hotel in Madrid that could've used higher standards but that's pretty much it, otherwise no problems. The staff can be rude at times, happens everywhere though. Bathrooms, well public bathrooms can be dirty but in restaurants and hotels I don't have any problems. As for water, hmm, I've never had problems with it anywhere whatsoever?? :/

From what little I know of Finland some of its most appealing (to me =) ) assets are: less corruption among the elites (widespread in France and many other European countries, imo), good administration (healthcare, education), more polite citizens (I've met a few and they were all incredibly nice and polite), a more "at peace with itself" society (you don't have many riots, do you?). The weather can be a blessing or a curse depending on your taste (I prefer a warmer climate myself). I don't know about crime rates but I've been told Finland was safer than Western Europe, so that's a good point as well.
I don't like the geographicl situation of Finland, though, I like being able to drive easily to widely different countries like Spain, Italy and Germany. I'm sure Russia, Sweden and Baltic countries have lots to offer, though, I just prefer Western Europe.

All in all I think Finland looks like a very good country to live in, though not necessarily for the same reasons you stated. :)

Water in finland is luxurious compared to other countries and there is plenty of it: you can drink all water you get from your water tap and even the shower water is drinkable, while the water from taps in most other european countries (and the world) have undrinkable water and it's even oily at times and you can't even properly wash anything with it-it's sort of greesy. Not to talk about the water tap system, it's very old and un-hightech, with the cold and warm water taps separate and you'll have to mix them to get the right heat. (not all places are like that but most). And then there is the food side in the UK for example, it's amazing how little vegetables you have in a normal meal there, at least those places my family visited on our trip through europe. And yeah, the people, there so many in some cities in europe to cover all of finlands population. Even our own capital, helsinki can be too crowded, and there is max 1 million people in the whole southern capital region! It's amazing to live in finland and how many things we take as granted and then we are shocked when we visit other countries :D

About the climate, it's so warm right now that I'm sweating like a pig while I'm writing this, finland can be very warm too! :P I enjoy winters a lot more because then you can choose how warm you have it, on summers you can't choose how warm you have it by taking clothes of, because even while butt-naked it's too warm! (southern finland).

My point is not to say that finland is superior than all other countries in the world, if that's what you think when you read my post :D

No don't worry, I understand what you mean; I'll have to come to Finland to taste your tap water then :)
I don't know much about Finnish food, but I love salmiakki! (very hard to find here though)

Nationally: Right here in the good old South. Wish I wasn't in the middle of nowhere though :l

Internationally: Errrr... Dunno. France is nice, but I've only been to Paris and Calais. They're both very pretty :)

Here? I'd be more than happy to return to my home-town of Newcastle, though my other half isn't desperately keen.

Elsewhere? Probably somewhere like Scandinavia or north-west Europe. I don't like anything that's too unfamiliar. Or far away. :hehe:
