im loving New Vegas! it is a great homage/mix of all the best parts of the three "types" of games that make up this series (by three types, i mean Wasteland; Fallout 1, 2, and tactics; and Fallout 3).

it has the Rangers and much of the feel of Wasteland (my first PC game, btw), the humor and locations feel like Fallout, all mixed with the nice 3d of Fallout 3.

This game has the FEEL i was hoping for.

amen. I made a post about this as well but it was instantly buried in the river of tears from complainers who don't know what they're talking about.

From the moment I popped this in I though, "now this is fallout." don't get me wrong, i thought fallout 3 was a decent game....but it wasn't really fallout. My favorite part is the weapons. Now instead of 10 minutes into the game 90% of the weapons being obsolete trash and only about 2 guns are even worth using you can use a variety. In fallout 3 they might as well just have removed every gun except the combat shotgun and Chinese assault rifle because just about everything else was just there to take up space. Not so in New Vegas. It's so much more immersive and rewarding.

I love you fallout new vegas.

I'm loving the non-combat solutions. Makes it feel less like a dungeon crawl. Even as a combat character, I try to find the less violent approach available.

agreed. to me fallout 3 felt like oblivion with guns, just one dungeon crawl after another so I really appreciate the way they make quests feel more organic in NV.

now if only we could actually talk about the game in the "general discussion" section of the forum instead of having to hear people be butt hurt over minor bugs happening once or twice in a 24 hour play session.

Of course they captured the feel of it, Obsidian is composed of a lot of the people that worked on the originals. I for one got exactly what I expected going in (which is awesomeness).

Not that that's a -bad- thing, but it wasn't really Fallout. I see FO3 as a 3d prototype.

I'm quite happy with this game.

The only downside I have with the game swo far is they expect you to be already be familiar with Fallout history, which isn't really an issue unless its your first game.

agreed on the non-combat solutions!

Also love this BoS. they are not nice.

the town lay-outs are also just like fallout 1 and 2. Freetown reminded me of fallout 2, instantly.

oh one minor gripe on "lore," when guy gives you his pipboy. i always loved that the pipboy was *part* of you. even in F3, they honored that with the broken steel add-on and them trying to saw it off gary and all that :)

so much done right!

Well, its two hundred years after the Great War. Someone somewhere was going to solve the 'Pip-Boy for life' problem.

This feels so much more like Fallout than FO3 did, FO3 is Oblivion with guns (and FO3 and Oblivion are two of my all time favourite games). I've only got about 7 hours in after a restart but I'm really having to scavenge to survive since I'm not using VATS and I'm using melee close in. Don't know how you VATS users are getting on but when I tested it to see what had changed from the previous incarnation, FO:NV VATS didn't seem to be the god mode that FO3 VATS was.

The game seems to a lot darker and mature in tone than FO3.

Well, taht's good to hear. I liked F3 early on when you have a broken down hunting rifle, trying to keep it operational and finding sawnoffs and 10mm and .32 pistols everywhere. Then when you got to level 8ish all there was was assault rifles, lasers and combat shotguns.

I'm loving the non-combat solutions. Makes it feel less like a dungeon crawl. Even as a combat character, I try to find the less violent approach available.

Probably helps that 1/4 of the map isn't infested with supermutants and only traversible through deathtrap subways.

The only downside I have with the game swo far is they expect you to be already be familiar with Fallout history, which isn't really an issue unless its your first game.

Probably as a result of taking it back west, which wasn;t a problem with F3 as we knew nothing of their region, so it was all new stuff.

I didn't think about the pip boy thing, d'you think they went and captured a Gary for that very purpose? I always assumed he just wandered in and they killed him...

I can only agree. This truly feels like Fallout. All the little details, the dialog, the music, well...everything. It gives you that certain feeling that made me play both Fallout 1 and 2 all night long when I got them. Fallout 3 had it's good parts, but I could tell that it was made by the same people who worked on Oblivion and I'm glad we weren't stuck with it. Again, kudos to Obsidian for making this game. Even if it was a bumpy release with some frustrating issues, the creative content is top-notch in my book.

This is great news indeed. I`m a big time Fallout fan, although I enjoyed Fallout 3 it didn`t really capture the spirit of Fallout. I just installed it a few minutes ago but holding off starting until I finish my morning duties so I can immerse myself in the Fallout universe uninterupted.

I've got about 7 hours in and my favorite part so far was the questions Doc asks you, no spoilers but one of the answers is "I'd rather not say" when he asks you what you see in the blobs on paper thing.

i can agree with this, considering now with the new shield icon to indicate if your bullets are doing something, it makes using a wide variety of guns to see what works very worthwhile. ive learned that a combination of the assault carbine and lever action shotgun can take down a blind deathclaw relatively quickly. i like having to use different guns for different enemies.

I am in love with this game! I am level 13 and slowly working my way around the world. I just completed the NCR Radio Signal quest so I got alot of exploring and dying in! no idea on time played since im on the PS3 but I think its in the 25 hour range.

Wasteland is stil probably my favorite RPG I have ever played, I had it on the freaking C64 and played it to death as a kid. For some reason I never picked up on Fallout 1,2 - blame college and Everquest 1 I guess.. but those games never hit my radar and I never knew of the connection to Wasteland. So when Fallout 3 came out I jumped on it right away and was kind of disapointed in it and never really took to it - but New Vegas grabbed me big time already and I cant wait to fully explore this offereing.

I also love how I dont have to be a weapon master to play this. I have high science, repair, speech, and high cha.. so I can do some shooting still but I have 2 companions who can do the main damage if needed as I run around hacking things if my charm doesnt save me from getting into fights in the first place.

I just hope this game doesnt fall into the pointless, nickle and diming you to death DLC like Dragon Age became. I hope for actual expansion-like add ons or story mods that take more than 2 hours to go thru.. hehe.

I may be in the minority, but this game didn't have the emotional feel that F3 did. No stepping out into the light and going: "Wow...this place svcks"....

Good game, but not gritty....It doesn't have that "Oh ****, what's around that rock and is it going to kill me?" feel.

I believe in Obsidian. And in order to emphasis my believe, I've buyed a second version of FONV just 30 minutes ago via Steam. I learned yesterday that my preorder UK uncut version won't reach me before 29.10. I simply couldn't stand the waiting any longer. I hope that New Vegas will be the same positive experience for me, as for the thread maker. I also hope it doesn't get to be such a crash fest, as FO3 was when I've buyed it first time.

Now I consider this quite ignorant, I agree that theres no reason to be whining like people are. But they have a right to complain when a game comes out this buggy. I don't think you have the right to whine about people complaining unless you've been backed up 12 hours of gameplay due to falty saves, having lost 24 hours of gameplay because a quest character is missing, etc.

I know that obsidian is going to fix this soon, and ill wait, but that one part was pretty ignorant. Same goes for everyone else thats just whining because theres a dozen people "whining" of a few "minor" problems

Get a PC. They are cheap theese days. Around 300-400€ for a fairly decent one + 150€ for a good graphic card. On Pc and with Geck you can fix the game by yourself and customize it like you want. It's christmas soon, convince your parents to get you a PC. You can have my second copy of New Vegas...I'll sell you for 60€.
