Do you ever bring a follower?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:18 am

First thing I do is grab a Follower. Since I tend to play realistically as a no magicks warrior and I don`t `uber` myself, I need all the help I can get and someone like Lydia is often just enough to help me surivive- Especially at low level.

"J'zargo is ready for more adventure."

If you didn't know, you can reset your followers stats using the wabbajack (they don't scale with you). Check my sig for details.

no because the ai is too stupid to jump and in some cases even sneak as with every game it seems perhaps when follower ai actually exceeds the intelligence of a housefly i might but until then il be better off without someone just barely smarter than the sword they are carrying.

I made one, and liked having her around. Then she started acting weird, and wouldn't follow me anymore >=/.

I always use a follower. Feels too lonely without one, and I like the pack mule support.

My Thief/Assassin don't bring one, simply as she prefers to sneak about alone and hide in the shadows. My next character will probably use followers as that ain't going to be a sneaky assassin one.

That`s the sad thing about Followers in the game, they really are little more than damage sponges and pack mule support.

I use followers when I'm traversing the land, but not when I'm actually exploring places. I never travel by horseback except for certain questlines, mostly because it takes way too long to get off the horse to fight if the need arises, so when I'm going from Solitude to Riften, I take a friend on the journey.

I take my husband Calder with me everywhere (well not literally everywhere  but when we are adventuring)

He is great. He does not get in the way and he is good at not setting off traps.

I just need to get him some better armor now.

I always use a follower. Feels too lonely without one, and I like the pack mule support.

I agree with that. It would not feel the same if I did not have Calder with me.

To some yes, but I quite enjoy listening to Mjoll talking or J'zargo's tales.

I much prefer the depth of FNV followers though, quality over quantity.

Always ALWAYS have the lovely Lydia by my side. As a strictly pure mage, I see my role in combat situations as more supervisory than hands-on; since I got to 100 for Conjuration I usually have two Dremora Lords around too. We're quite the little party - any time danger arises, those two aggressive lunatics charge in, Lydia generally stands her ground and starts firing in the arrows, and I blast away with Thunderbolts from the rear echelon. It works for us.

It wouldn't be a fraction of the game it is without the affection and obligation I feel for my housecarl and my horse. Protecting them is my main goal.

What should I use them for? I am fine fighting alone or together with some conjured Daedra/Shadowmere. And there is enough useless loot I don′ t need to take with me.

Me and Faendal saw some good times - I rememeber a Draugr running at me and suddenly I saw an Arrow strike it in the neck, knocking him off balance, and then another 'THWACK" straight in the head, down went the Draugr.... Faendal's skill with a bow saved my butt... I was impressed. Thank you Faendal.

..And the bad times..... Yes well it turns out hes a bit of a wimp at close quarters.

He always kept that Axe I gave him tho, whenever I return to River wood, he has that same Axe I gave him on his belt, a momento of our adventures together.

In my opinion, sometimes followers add a little magic to the adventure, by what they do and say. They smartly comment on a situation sometimes, like when you come across some epic scene or landscape, followers will usually exclaim or marvel at it by dropping a comment or two, which is a nice touch.

I can remember when I came across a underground burial chamber and as I was just thinking how cool the whole scene looked, I heard Faendal from behind me exclaim ''WOW, would you look at that!'' ....... I just thought, how awesome is that? He said what I was thinking!

But thats Skyrim all over - filled with magic moments like that.

I don't think so. They don't need to have long conversations. All that equates to is more boring cutscenes. I can imagine little discussions and campfire scenes on my own. That's like 80% of how I roleplay, so when games take that over from me I start to wonder why they even need me there.

From time to time I join up with someone, but that is rare. I fenerally feel others are more in the way then helpful. That I do not have expendable mercenaries is also a reason, I hate it when my followers die.

I've noticed, I am level 58, had the game since it came out and have only brought one follower with me to fight for a little while... I have never used one ever since...

I am just curious, do you guys use Followers often or no?

I did use the thane from my Markarth home. That was because I moved my new wife in there I thought he'd be better as a follower than have him hanging round her all day. I gave him full dragonplate (like my own) and gave him the best sword I could offer. He was a rock and a great side kick.

He's now lives at Sky Haven Temple as a blade. I occasionally visit him to see how he's doing. He seems to be doing well and likes his new home.

I've never been a big fan of followers in any BGS game. I don't particularly dislike them, I've just never used them. With a sneak-oriented character, they are a no-no.

Not used any of the human followers.

or

In Oblivion I used more summoning familiars then as for Skyrim. Don't really got much to choose from as for Oblivion. Most came from Shivering isles.

I used to take Brelyna with me, she was OK but then we eneded up adopting a child. She made me feel guilty for killing that old hag in the orphanage, so Brels' started laying on the guilt trip. So, I agreed to adopt a kid, picked out a nice khajiit but no, the only ones available were this boy with a snotty nose and a little girl who didn't say much, so I opted for the mute one.

SInce then Brels' has been spending all her time at Honeyside (as she should, she is my slave after all) looking after the place and "it" as I refer to the child. Recently, I met Kharjo who I befriended. A pure Khajiit warrior who is handsome, wise and smells nice. I've been home once sice, Brels' didn't seem to impressed, oh well... tough doo-doo!
