Do you ever play a character of the opposite six?

Post » Fri Oct 05, 2012 1:42 pm

I've tried a couple times, but I always end up deleting my female characters, I guess because I have a harder time getting into the role (obviously). I do think the idea of a female Conan the BArbarian type warrior is pretty awesome, though, and I wish I could get past my inability to keep a female character. Does that seem weird? Do you guys play characters of the opposite six?

I can play the opposite six.
If I'm not playing either my Nord Karmen Wyrd or my Khajiit Ra'Khacharr I'm playing my Redguard guy Zamiel.

Its not weird. My dad felt the same way when he started a female character. Couldn't get to Whiterun without it bothering him.

I probably wouldn't be a female barbarian or heavy armor warrior. But spellsword, mage, thief, assassin, crafter, archer, etc... females are fine.

2 of my 4 characters are female. My 5th will be male, though, I think.

All the time - my current Skyrim character is a female Breton mage. I've rolled female characters in Fallout 2, Fallout 3 and New Vegas as well.

I'm playing a female Altmer mage right now(in the rare times I'm not modding or playing other games). No problems here.

Yes, constantly playing male game after game after game gets boring after a while imo.

I only play characters of the other (not "opposite") six.

I'm the same way...I never make female characters in any sort of RPG where I have a choice. I even have a hard time watching movies with violent female protagonists.

I think I just don't like to see women killing people.

I rarely play a female character, and if i do it usually doesnt last very long, haha. Though i did get one female character in oblivion to level 39 once and did all the shivering isles. So i guess i dont have trouble playing a female character as much as i just choose not to i guess.

Though in games with parties like bauldurs gate or something i like to keep a 50/50 male female ratio usually but in single player rpgs i rarely (if ever) play females.

Much prefer watching my female characters hind end swivel around, executing epic death cam moves, than watching some big sweaty nord meathead . . .

Well, I often run around in third person, and I would much rather stare at something other than a huge axe, so yes I do roll around with female characters quite often, but if I RP something, it depends on the RP, for instance I am currently RPing a Druss The Legend type of character, rather interesting, considering I usually play games like a complete sociopath

I rarely play male characters, but it's not because it bothers me. I just prefer playing female I guess because I always end up throwing an embodiment of myself into every character.
I do plan on playing a male Argonian assassin at some point.

Quite often. It's a different way of looking at the game, and it's really interesting. Some of my favorite characters have been female.

So far, I have only created female Argonians, and planning on a female Khajiit, but I don't feel comfortable using a human female.

I personally think it's kind of perverted how a good 75% of guys play a female character, just for the six appeal when it isn't actually there. I play males all the time personally.

Nope, the only games that I have played as females were Mass Effect, due to the awesome voice acting, and well Metroid .
But other than that, nope, I only play as males.

I absolutely can't. THere's no way I can relate.

Same reason why I almost never play races other than Nord. It's the only one that I understand.

My current character is the only male I've played out of 5 or 6 (I'm female myself). I like him. He's sixy. Skyrim had a severe lack of badass sixy Dunmer men, so I had to supply one.

Nope. Never have, probably never will. I like to roleplay and get inside the head of my character. Doing that with a female character is a bit too close to cross-dressing for my comfort.

Oh, it's this thread again (I think the last was a week ago?)

Q: Do I ever play a character of the opposite gender?

A: Yes, I do all the time. Mostly because I don't "relate" to my characters. I don't particularly "roleplay", in the get-in-character/acting sense. The character is not an avatar of me, I am not it. It is a game piece or action figure that I am moving around on a game board.

So, being a hetero male, who likes women and also likes http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ActionGirl (Xena, Syndey Bristow, River Tam, Buffy, etc), I tend to make female characters in games that allow it.

I personally think it's kind of perverted how a good 75% of guys play a female character...

By the way, back before the game came out, there were several poll threads, asking if people played the same gender or opposite (plus if they were male or female themselves).

Across several polls, with a few hundred responses each, the same result came out - about 80% of the male players played male characters.

So, yeah.

-----

edit: what I don't understand is how it's weird, or perverted, or cross-dressing, or homosixual (just to grab varied responses from the many similar threads I've seen before) or any of these things. An awful lot of guys played the Tomb Raider & Dead or Alive games. Plenty of male writers have written novels with female characters (which, if they're well written, they had to "get inside the head" of). Various cultures (Japan, medieval England) have had traditions of having male actors play female characters in plays. Etc, etc, etc.

Is it just kids going "ew, cooties"?

edit: note, I'm not referring to the people who're saying "I try to get into the mind of my characters, and I can't do it," but rather the people who seem grossed out by it.

I play male and female characters. I oft pick their gender (and race) randomly, and have no problem playing any. I don't know how people can play an anthropomorphic 'feline' or 'reptile' just fine, but not the other gender.
