I'll take playability over realism anytime. What's the point of making something "realistic" (as in like real life) when it detracts from the game play?

I'm guessing they're there for the convenience of 360 / PS3 users who sit on the couch playing the game a mile away from their TV screen.

It's a shame really, as it kills the atmosphere completely.

Oh puh-lease.

I sit with the screen a nice unhealthy two feet from my face.

In a world filled with dragons and magic, candles that don't go out shouldn't be much of a surprise.....

I never found this book in Skyrim, and I made it a point to read every book I came across at least once (in the case of 2920, or The Real Barenziah, several times), and I can't seem to recall this one.

I put 400 hours into Skyrim and never once found this Amongst the Draugr book.

lol? I could see just fine, I never needed a touch or night eye the entire game!
not me, i enchanted a night eye necklace that i put on as soon as i stepped foot in a dungeon...different lighting settings and tv's/monitors make us all see differently ;)

OP i thought the same as you, who lit all these dam lights....light fairies? maybe the dwemer are secretly alive but nobody has seen them because they're busy making all dark places underground stay lit :P

I dunno, I mean they're not actually abandoned though.
They're always occupied, and we know Draugr can't see in the dark so they obviously maintain torches in dungeons that don't have living occupants, it's probably only recently they've started doing that.
The whole "dragon" vibe going through the ley lines or w/e has them angsty.

But how many torches and candles have you seen in a Falmer dungeon?
I also reckon you'll have a hard time naming a dungeon that contains barrels or bags of food that doesn't have at least one living person to justify it.

I've seen this point raised before but I'm not sure it's really all that legit (even if you just don't like the lighting or think it's too bright or w/e).
A few example dungeons would be good, like science ftw.

Yes you're right. You're just supposed to pretend not to notice. Like how they've not been looted in the centuries before you got there.

I'd prefer it if they were dark, but you could light the candles and torches yourself if you wanted with a torch.

A few pitch black dungeons would actually be really cool. The Falmer are blind and live deep underground, so... maybe in Dawnguard?

Am I the only one that finds many dungeons to be too dark? I find myself using the Candlelight spell quite a bit to brighten everything around me. Hell, I even make it a point to try to travel only during the day.

Unhealthy 2 feet? >.>

I have a very small desk, but even with the monitor all the way at the back of it, It's about 14 inches from my face. And if I play or do something that requires a lot of focus, I lean forward without noticing and make that about 8 inches... I think I'm screwed. xD

In Oblivion you could? Maybe you had brightness up or something, on the default setting in brightness I needed my light spells or a torch.

I like things very well lit too, in some locations I use candlelight or magelight, I am OCD about finding things in dungeons so I think thay has a part of ny obsession with using light spells.

There's also fresh fruit.

The Draugr may be dead, but that doesn't mean they don't go to the grocery store like everyone else.
Did I say grocery store? I meant THE GENERAL GOODS STORE. I WORK THERE FOR BELETHOR.
No you don't!!! You chop wood. Very rarely you might go inside and sweep.

DOOO commeeee baaaack..

I found it upstairs in the Solitude Inn.

I should correct my statement - I don't find them "too dark", but I find them dark enough. I feel like I have trouble seeing in dungeons without lights just fine.

But then again, I have anxiety also. I'm not afraid of the dark, but crawling through dark dungeons in these Bethesda games triggers some of my anxieties. I think some of it has to do with the fact that I was suffering through some of my worst bouts of anxiety while playing Fallout 3.

I understand now, I find the lighting fine as well not much issue with that, but I have to really light up an area as I loot because I do not want to miss anything.
In Fallout there was a certain tension to having things jump out on you in the dark, that game certainly gave a few jolts and thrills for sure.
The ghouls was the worst you could hear them on the distance and then all of the sudden thay would screech and be on you because you misjudged how close they were in the dark.

The corpses walking around fit the lore, but never ending candles don't. Unless magic was involved...
Hit the nail on the head, magic was used so the candles last for ages.

Yea I definitely need a torch, or Candlelight, or something if I am looting as well. That's when I really can't see.

Yes I always find candlelight works the best, when searching for items its easier to play a mage.
