If you're playing as primarily a fighter or mage (IE, not a thief/assassin or any other stealth based character) do you still sneak around like in dungeons and stuff? Or do you just wade right in and face the battle head on?
I still sneak, just to try and see what I am up against before I go in screaming. I just refuse to kill anyone from sneak (at least with my current character) for I believe it is cowardly.
I use sneak sometimes even when I am a warrior or a mage. Works well with illusion if your a mage, and sometimes it is best even for a brave warrior not to get torn in half when facing dangerous opponents.
I've played two melee warriors so far and neither one of them did any sneaking.
On the other hand, my current mage uses Sneak. She does not use any physical weapons and relies on her wits (which include sneaking to avoid fights at times) rather than combat, when possible. So it all depends on the character.
Rarely. To me part of the fun of a stealthy character is killing them before they know you're there, and part of the fun of being a warrior is waltzing in like you own the place and bashing everything in your way.
I find that trying to sneak on a character you haven't been doing it with much tends to not be worth it, though that could be the improved AI mods I play with.
I most certainly do, I found a pair of muffling boots in Labyrinthia while passing through to get to a dragon one of the Jarls wanted me to kill. Even though I'm in full heavy armour, nobody ever sees me coming! I've got most of my skills into Bow, Destruction and Restoration. But now with the muffled steel plate boots I can get in a good hit on the enemy before I even enter the room with Chain lightning. I did put points into illusion for quiet spell casting though after finding the boots. Chain lightning! Sneak attack does 2x damage! Everyone is dead XD.
Even if my character is not a thief, it still all depends on the character's style and personality. For some characters I use sneak to avoid combat or to survey the area. Having said that if I am playing a huge Nord wielding a warhammer suited out in full steel plate armour, I will not try to sneak around.
Yeah, just because it feels natural to sneak in a dark cave full of bandits, even I svck at it
dude, why, they have like, 10 health. you can one hit them with your fists
Well unless I have a pure archery character I do not put any perk points into archery so it still takes a couple good hits to take one down. But I like hitting them once then chasing them down to finish them off. Some of my best battles end up starting this way. Chasing down deer until you reach a spot where you get ambushed may be the funnest thing to do in Skyrim.
I started sneaking with my Full Mage just to get to level 50. It doesn't feel right with that character though... I normally storm in with explosions and Dremora and lightning and such. Sneaking through didn't feel right.
For fighters and mages I don't sneak at all. I do walk slow and be carefull when I need to,I mean only the really stupid just rush on in without any concern at all.
I sneak but only if I somewhere were I don't know if there's an enemy nearby so ill sneak just to see if im spotted or not knowing there's and enemy. Is that cheating?
I hate having that big eyeball when being seen in sneak mode in the middle of the screen. Also just because I am sneaking that doesn't mean that I want to crouch around looking like I am looking for a nice place to poop. Just make me walk slower and crouch when standing still.
if it helps minimize the distance i need to travel to get to them or allows me to wait for an opening to attack with better odds of success then if i just charged in at that moment of course i will sneak even on an orc barbarians because good barbarians must know how to stalk there prey
