You people overact to lack of spells.

Alot of the spells are new, rather then the same lame animation "Was cool for a while" with the same lame looking spell with different effects.

Running off a new engine...

As a mage, I'm fine with what I have, I just want flame tempest and maybe blizzard. :P

By the way, I'm sure they'll add new spells in DLC...They did that alot in Oblivion.

how many spells are there anyhow, I mean you can only have 8 spells/weapons/items on your 1-8 keys to switch with anyhow, so you cannot use em all at once anyway

Shame I'm not a PC player, I dislike clicking, despite all the nice advantages.

Uh, it's not a "new" engine, it's still a modified version of the Gamebryo engine (references to past games, including Pip-boy code in the exe file proves this)

So what you're saying is that the handful new spells they added makes up for the ton of spells they cut?

And why should we have to pay extra for the variety we had in the last two games?

I use 1 spell in combat... not only is there no need to use anymore but it's also the most effective way of killing things.

You don't see what's wrong with that picture?

This of course was wildly different in Morrowind and/or Oblivion where you HAD to use ALL of the spells to succeed.

Right? Right?

THey left out water walking, and that is inexcusable.

Oakflesh on touch would have been nice too.

Okay so maybe they may of been overlooked.

Still, probably will add spells in DLC.

Still happy with what I got, atleast casting magic isn't as boring as Oblivion.

That and shouts are considered magic, so I'm happier. :P

Exactly the problem... Bethesda svcks at magic systems. They could take some lessons from Bioware on it.

Night eye, silence, mark/recall, jump, slow fall, reflect, drain attribute, fortify attribute, damage weapon/armour, chameleon, oh, and that whole thing about making custom spells, like ones with multiple effects. sigh

and of course the complete removal of touch spells.

I'm disappointed with some of the spell losses (Most notable: Summon Skeleton, Ghost, Wraith, and Lich - I enjoy summoning supernatural spirits; as well as Command Human / Command Animal).

But I adapt, I work with what's available instead of comparing it to what was, I make my character within the confines of the game instead of [censored]ing about what Game X or Game Y did, and in the end when it comes right down to it, while the losses are disappointing, what I see is a game that gave me more than I've ever had in this series.

Except, no, the magic system has been completely butchered.

Sure, they added some nice visual effects, I'll give them that. But the massive lack of spells and spell creation makes this elder scrolls game the worst elder-scrolls game for magic users.

That might be fine for you, but for someone who wants to play a mage or a hybrid magic user, and has any form of rational thought, this is not acceptable.

I'm extremely satisfied with the Skyrim spell system. The only spells that I'm sad are gone are waterwalking, open, and reflect from oblivion, and naturally levitate, mark/recall from morrowind.

On a positive note on spells, they scale according to your level, perks, etc and anyway, many spells in Oblivion were just the same with just another vallue.
but yeah, the choice of spells has been lowered.
