Do you think balance will be fixed in patch 1.5?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 8:53 am

I have held off playing Skyrim for about a month now as at level 37 the game had gotten too easy so I am waiting for a balance patch... but I don't want to be waiting if there isn't a big chance of there being one...

After Todd's speech and he is clearly aware there is a problem - do you think the balance will be fixed in the next patch?

They aren't going to balance anything in patches.

Don't expect one. The Elder Scrolls games have never been about balance at higher levels. You're supposed to feel like you're a beast for getting that strong.

Increase the difficulty, don't use exploits to max out your gear etc

I see no need for changing the balance.

In any case, that is something Bethesda is very unlikely to do in a patch. It would only upset people that like it the way it is.

Not a great solution but if your finding the game too easy try using weaker weapons and armour.

Bethesda's lost its way somewhere in the last 6 years. They've basically sold out. Their games get simpler and balance is all but gone. Sad to see this day come.

Is this another Master-Gamer who was destroying everything at level 1 on Master? This is a rpg/fantasy/adventure game. No need for cheap arcade difficulty thrills to make my character feel like an underpowered loser. Theres a reason why you spend countless hours leveling up and gaining perks.... To actually become powerful! Imagine that?

Just don't use any weapons or armor, basically dumb down your character.
Don't play the game in the way it was designed to be played, then youll have a blast, Pffft not.

Good to see that some people who made these kinds of posts and topics everywhere at release are still fixated on a non-issue.

Check back in a few more months!

Your game is about as obvious as the light of day at a cloudless noon.

Looking at the last 3 games they made, I have to say no. They wont ever fix the balance issues.

How do you balance becoming a legendary hero that vanquishes all Skyrim's foes?

Does not compute...

Balance is such an ambiguous word. There will always be a level in RPGs where you're god unless there are sections of the map that is dedicated to levels 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, and so on. Even then there will be a point in which you out level everything else unless there is some type of cap.

Bethesda doesn't do balance patches. Single-player games don't need them anyway. Besides, they still have quests to fix.

What Skyrim could have used is a design that rewards trying out different builds better. Only characters with high lockpick skills should be able to open some things, only magic users should be able to use certain things, other things (like some locks) should be openable by either, etc.

Instead we have a funny system where you have to use lockpicks to open chests, but there's never any special reason to do so, where some quests won't progress unless you use a certain spell (rather than something with a similar effect), and where unique items aren't very powerful. It's like the "do anything" philosophy morphed into "I shouldn't feel unequal for doing anythign different than my last character."

Honestly, I like the godlike status I reach once I get up around level 40. Single player RPG's shouldn't need balance patches unless it's something glaringly bad in my opinion.

Morrowind is unbalanced. It starts off difficult, gets a reasonable difficulty, then you become godlike for the rest of the game. The enemies don't level, so you can pace yourself so you stay low leveled for a while, but it's fun being as powerful as you wish. Almost quite literally.

Oblivion is unbalanced. It starts off reasonably easy and it only gets harder as you level up. Your skills mean nothing because rats and wolves will start appearing in increased rank so you can never become overpowered, unless you focus on a select few attributes so you "max out" the attributes you need at a mid-low level. Skills can then max out without leveling up and you're godlike.

Skyrim is unbalanced. It has perks that are overpowered and can be abused. In my opinion Skyrim is the most balanced of the group, because there are monsters that get easier, and there are monsters that seem to stay in a specific difficulty but remain throughout the game even at lower levels. Trolls and Giants are great examples.

You cannot balance a game's difficulty perfectly. Power given to the player as well as monsters add depth and strategy so you have to think about different skills to work on to overcome your opponents. I find this game very fun, and playing with the power given to me is what adds hours and hours to the experience on top of the endless quests in the open world of Skyrim.

I agree with all of this.

And I'd rather them patch HOUSES!!! WTF! My Honeyside home was fine until 1.4. Now, things have disappeared off my shelves and the weapon plaques in the cellar place items floating in the middle of the room.

No.

I don't see the game having a problem anyway. I would just start another char and build a little different character.
