Do you think lycanthropy should feel more like a curse?

Post » Wed Jul 25, 2012 12:47 pm

I mean, in non dawnguard skyrim, vampires were at a huge disadvantage because they couldn't go out in the sun and people would attack them, while it made being a vampire not worth it, it was a great challenge for a role player. With lycanthropy, once you acquire it you can forget you even have it

I would suggest random forced transformations in the middle of the night. Maybe a 3% chance every midnight you could spontaneously combust? That sounds like a good trade off for me

Yeah, but other than that one DB quest, there is no incentive to sleep, that well rested bonus isn't enough to encourage someone who doesn't care about sleeping.

And the Lover's Stone more than compensates.

But yes, both lycanthropy and vampirism should have strong negative aspects. Especially the former, since it has such a nice perk in the enhanced combat prowess.

u cant heal(in wolf form) unless u eat dead people, i guess that makes lycanthropy slightly curse like. maby they should have made it like that in human form too.

a forced transformation a couple of times a week sounds like an idea to me, making it more like in Daggerfall.

Well, the thing is, if you don't transform, there is no downside to being a werewolf, other than you have trouble sleeping. Making it so you have trouble healing would be a step in the right direction

I always said that I wanted to get infected by wild werewolves. They are the only ones who seem to have forced lunar transformations.

That's probably the best way to do it. Though, there would be some trouble when you're just walking around Whiterun and all of a sudden you turn into a Werewolf, but I guess that's the fun in it, or the curse I mean.

You could just get a warning, before it happens though.

True. But if that were to happen randomly people would complain about it too much.

Maybe, but then again, being a vampire is very difficult, werewolves need to be equally as difficult.

Being a vampire isn't very difficult anymore  . But I do agree that werewolves should have more drawbacks. Weakness to silver weapons doesn't cut it.

Here were some tradeoffs I was suggesting in my what vampires and werewolves could have been thread, which I've been meaning to update.

Once a month (or twice considering the second moon) lycanthropes are forced to transform from 9 PM to 4 AM.
H/M/S does not regenerate when wearing silver equipment
20 points extra damage when struck by silver weapons in human form
50 points extra damage when struck by silver weapons in beast form.

Now this idea I like. It's not too random, but at least if you've transformed once already in a month you're relieved of it ever happening again during that month. But if you have not, you still have to be cautious. They just need to make silver weapons more common, since the Silver Hand are only found in a few places, if any.

Well, this would be cool if silver weapons were on par with other tiers of weapons (we just discussed this) instead of just being a part of the companion questline. Also, silver armor would need to make a comback. Or maybe mithril at least.

They should bring back lunar transformations, and make the risks for being a lycan higher.

This seems reasonable, and as long as the time stays constant we would have the foresight to not get caught at inopportune moments.
H/M/S does not regenerate when wearing silver equipment.
This could also work, but . . . I LOVE the look of silver weaponry sooooo much!
20 points extra damage when struck by silver weapons in human form.
The only folks I've seen carrying around silver weapons are the Silver Hand, and they would naturally warrant more caution.
50 points extra damage when struck by silver weapons in beast form.
Same as the previous.

I do like these, especially the first one, but when you start penalizing folks like this you start to get a clash of "Lore v.s. Gameplay" which wouldn't be too much of a thrill, me thinks.

I think it should be its own race.

Like when you pick your race, one of the options is Lycanthrope. And then you can pick your "true" race for appearence purposes.

So if you picked your race to be a Werewolf with a Nord appearence, you get racial abilities of a werewolf, not Nord.
And every night they should be forced to change.
I think they should do that for the next TES

eh, not really agreeing with that, i think becoming one should be something that happens as you play the game
