Your first impression...

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:29 pm

my first feeling while I've played 'new vegas' was, its not as good as fallout 3. of course you have new weapons, features and stuff.. but the ambience of FO3 casted a spell over me 2 years (or whatever..) ago. new vegas did not. but.. okay I only arrived at 'primm' yet. and I'll play this game definitely 'til the end! but it is a feeling of "something's missing.." i dunno..

my question is.. what was your first impression of new vegas?

Keep it up :) As was said, you have a long way to go. The further you go, the more you get vested in the experience.

Its the music. Fallout 3 had way better tunes on the radio, and more of them. Music plays a big part in the experience for alot of people.

So far, it's a hell of a lot better than Fallout 3 was.

Now don't get me wrong, Fallout 3 was a decent game, but it was lacking a lot of what made Fallout "Fallout" so to say. New Vegas fills in the holes left by Fallout 3 and then some.

And just getting to Primm really isn't enough for a first impression yet, in my opinion. Wait until you get to Novac and do the Come Fly With Me quest.

My first impression was that I felt like I had spent the money wisely, I liked FO3 a lot, but the feel of this one fits me better. It was reinforced when within the first couple hours I had to make a (in my opinion) decently sized choice that would have lasting repercussions. Then I was met with the consequence of what happens when you do not listen to what 90% of the starting NPCs say, then I was filled with joy.

My hopes did diminished slightly when people told me where Primm was and I hopped on a fence and could see the practically the whole damn town from Goodsprings, but it was made up for.

You may change your mind yet, I had basically the same impression as you on first entering the game world, I'm not sure I wanted another fallout 3, but there are some elements of it I would like to have seen carried over, zany characters for instance.

But I've truly got into it, I'm on my third character.

I walked out of the Doc's house into Goodsprings and let out a sigh of relief, because I felt as if I'd come home :) And nothing in my 200+ hours of play so far has dissuaded me from that opinion. I am extremely happy with this game :)

My first impression was "Cool, I like it.", nothing more, nothing less. I don't constantly compare games, I just play them.

Excellent, miles better than Fallout 3, I love how they explain some of the would-be bulli[censored] moments in it, like in Megaton I thought "How did these people lift the whole tail-section of a plane onto the roof of a shack, and why?", in New Vegas however it explains how the Boomers get protien from being isolated and who makes all the new neon signs. It's little things like that that keep me in the game.

FO:NV is what FO:3 should have been in my book, I am having the greatest time playing this game.
I enjoy the immersion and the environment, I am not even focusing on quests, etc. just plain out wasteland survival :)

Radio music, yes.
Ambient music, Fallout 3 does not even come close.

My first impression of NV was the same as when I saw that upskirt of Lindsay Lohan. Buggy as all hell.

"Obsidian has created a RPG and a Fallout game and not a sandbox game like Bethesda's Fallout."

Don't get me wrong, I loved Fallout 3 and I like sandbox games, but the Fallout series wasn't really about exploring the world until Bethesda picked it up. Obsidian has focused on the qualities that make a Fallout game a Fallout game and not a Bethesda game.

FNV and FO3 are about equally good games and which one seems better to you depends on your personal prefferences only. This is a shame for FNV because it should have come out as a better game overall and not an alternative to FO3. You will see a lot of people here saying something along the lines, "If you like quests and dialogues FNV is for you and if you preffer open world and exploration then FO3." But this is a dissapointment for those of us who enjoy both elements and hoped to see them implemented together in FNV, they are not mutually exclusive.

See I don't get that. I love exploring in NV just as much as Fallout 3. Where do people get that its not as fun?

I think it's the absence of big, non-quest related dungeons, where you shoot and loot things.
for those who are less interested in quests, especially the non-combat related ones, which are plenty in fnv, fallout 3 does indeed have more to offer.

Not so much shoot and loot really but more like hidden radio signals, voice recorded holodisks, places with an actuall story background (usually from pre-war times in FO3) in a form of e-mail correspondence or hidden notes, random encounters and other similar things that made the environmemt seem more interactive and worth exploring.
