Your ideas for new shouts

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 3:12 pm

Personally, I think shouts are an awesome feature of Skyrim, and I hope Bethesda keeps expanding on it in future DLC's (by e.g. adding new shouts), like they will do in Dawnguard.

So, do you have any idea of a shout that you would like to see in the future?

I have two ideas (that could possibly made into the same shout I suppose):

1. "Spirit Walking"

By doing this shout, your character's soul would temporarily escape the body, so that the player can get a tactical view of the battlefield before engaging in combat. The spirit walking would work like a "floating camera", where the soul is invisible and can float around, but can't interact with anything. The soul would only be able to float within a limited distance from the body during a limited time, and each word of the shout would increase that distance and length.

2. "Possession"

By doing this shout, your character's soul would leave the body and enter the body of a NPC and "possess" it. This would give you full control of the NPC for a limited time. You would be equipped with the same gear as the NPC had before you possessed it, and other NPC's would treat you as the person you possessed. For example, if you possess a bandit, other bandits will treat you as one of them and will not understand that their friend has been possessed. This could give you the element of surprise, as you could strike first at an unsuspecting foe. If the body you possessed dies, your soul would return to your body, but you would still have lost some health (to make it more fair). As you gain new words of the shout, the maximum distance between your target and the time of possession would increase.

I suppose that you could combine those shouts into one more powerfull, but maybe that would be too OP...

Vampire Grip-type move, only just grabbing/throwing. Could be cool...

Flight - At least temporarily. It would be extremely useful in combat with Dragons and would fit in with the concept of the Vampire Lord. I was surprised that with enemies being able to take flight Bethesda missed out the inclusion of at least levitation.

I just want a teleport shout. Not a dash, like Whirlwind Sprint, an actual teleport.

I could totally see something like it if it was less digital (like in fallout) and really felt like something that fits into the elder scrolls. Maybe it would be called "Battle vision"?

Yeah, that could work. And it would need to work more differently than Fallout since Skyrim doesn't have an Action Points stat.

Those both sound like good ideas, although I like the second one better. I kinda wished 3rd level fus ro dah was 360 degrees, but alas, it does not.

I'd like to start moving away from shouts and the whole dragonborn thing. I mean for those of us who beat the MQ, all this dragonborn stuff is getting old.

I would LOVE to see the shout that Ulfric was described using. A shout that literally tore someone to pieces. Imagine shouting at someone, with a result in ragdoll much like Unrelenting Force, but instead of the usual blue effect that comes with Unrelenting Force, it would be a mixture of black and purple. Resulting in a killcam, showing them flying through the air and desinigrating into dust like how the vampires do when killed/vanquished.

That was an exaggeration, Ulfric tells you he just shouted Torryg to the ground, & then stabbed him with a sword. The "shouted him to pieces" thing was just people sensationalizing it.

Either way works for me. I just miss teleports. They don't even have to be long range like in Morrowind, hops as opposed to leaps. I just really love teleporting.

Wouldn't that destroy the purpose of even having whirlwind sprint?

Although I'm fairly sure Ulfric used Unrelenting Force, I would love to have a shout like the one you described.

Unless built for a very specific role, yeah probably. But I can dream.

I mean, make it one of the "whispers" so it's silent, give it either a more limited range, or an obscenely long cool down. It could be a more stealth focused equivalent.
Whirlwind sprint's a really good power for warriors, close the distance, knock people flying. But it could be more useful for a rogue, get in close before they notice you, get off a cheap-shot. And I dunno, maybe it's a bad idea.

I like the concept, but the problem is that we already have a similar shout :/

They way you describes it, a silent shout that has a longer cooldown and is made for stealth, sounds like it could be really useful. Maybe if it took a while to charge the teleportation (so that whirlwind sprint would be better to use in battle), it would really have a different usage than whirlwind sprint.

The more I think about it, the more I want this shout... :P

I wish that there could be new shouts for both fire and lightning. Ice nature centered shouts both got 2 and it would be cool to have a new version of the other elements.

I would like some kind of a shout for crowd control . Perhaps spiritual chains that would extend from the dragon-born to all close range targets , raps around them and holds them all in place for 10 seconds this would allow you to control large groups that im sure will be coming with future dlc also for stopping teleporter npcs in there tracks

maybe something could be added of fixed to this concept but something like multiple ghost chains shoot out and hold enemies in place for set amount of time

also if they ever decide to have Ariel combat then of coarse a dragon form shout would be essential

I just have been lusting after teleportation even more so lately, because I played through a quest last night, with a snippy Dunmer necromancer, who spends half the time you're fighting him teleporting about the room.
But, yeah. It would take some fiddling with to do, so it didn't step on Whirlwind Sprint's toes too much. But like I said, I can dream.

An awesome shout would be to call a demon horse (kinda like shadowmere) from anywhere in the world and be able to use him in travelling and if you got more upgrades for the shout then he would go faster. another cool one would be to shout a tornado and completely fling everyone around and have be called "Words of Wind"
