Your opinion on dragons

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 5:13 pm

For being on the same console as oblivion Skyrim really took a big step foward.not graphicly like morrowind to oblivion.but more mechaniclly like lighting, dungeon design,combat/magic mechanics even art style improved alot(blackreach/borealis's).but the thing that really surprises me the most is how well the dragons work ingame. sure there are some huge/minor bugs that make them fly backwards or roam around in nothing but there birthday suits.but all in all bethesda did a magificiant job on dragons for the first time in an Elderscrolls game. they Dynamiclly fly where ever they want and not to mention there flying animation is really well done too.I gotta hand it to bethesda and the team who worked on the dragons for 2 years they did a great job.and I'd like to know what your opinion on the dragons in this game what would you rate them and what game did dragons better? I wouldn't mind playing more great games with dragons in them.

I think they have a great screen presence and look phenomenal. But they're overused in the game and become a nuisance after a while.

Make them more rare, more powerful, and have different battle tactics then they'd be close to perfect

They're fun to fight, especially in an open plane with lots of other participants, but after a while they do get kind of tedious. They don't bring anything new as you progress through the game. They essentially spot you, circle, hover and shout, when you do enough damage they land and go melee, and this formula doesn't change.

They do look great and they have pretty good animations though. Only thing dragons need is more combat variety.

All bugs and minor irritations aside - the dragons are brilliant :)

Dragons are ok but they aren't amazing by any stretch of the imagination.

To tell the truth I think dragons didn't really seem like they wanted to take over the world. because there usaully only one attacting you or someone if it was a true dragon invasion there would have been more dragons attacking everything that moves. like one of those videos in youtube.

I just like the fact that this game has dragons, dragons are so badass I'm surprised they haven't been used often since they are really cool, other than that, ingame when ur char isn't exactly a beast yet and ur playing on master they are a pain in the ass since you can't visit any outdoor hold without a dragon attack when u get past like lvl 20-25

Yes. That. My latest playthrough, I deliberately chose not to launch the dragon quests, just so I could get some peace. It's pretty nice without them, actually.

All the above and I wished they could be bigger and scarier looking. I'm not too keen on the design.

For a first time in the TES universe, I'd say they're far from bad. In fact, they might actually be the best dragons I've ever fought in a video game. I'd give them about about a B grade and that's only because I'm hard to satisfy.

Great in presentation, lacking in execution.

coupled with the fact that all you heard was DRAGONS DRAGONS DRAGONS in the year up to Skyrim's release, it doesn't help that they are as frequent as the boasting about them was. and even more so that fighting them essentially turns into a routine. its funny how the people who said the Oblivion gates of Skyrim were...you know..more or less right. too frequent, not very Dynamic, and much to straightforward in generally all aspects about them.

and I can't say I'm surprised since the moment it was stated they were infinite....you know..twas inevitable.

They are far better than other games have portayed Dragons I.E NOT a boss creature/scripted event/one time only kind of thing you see, but in fact being apart of the world...HOWEVER, like I said, they fall short in execution imo

I agree, I don't miss the Dragons at all. The game feels a lot better without them, the only thing I miss about them is the awesome battle music that you get when fighting a Dragon.

I agree with a B rating, for a 1st time try, Beth did really good with the Dragons. They aren't amazing by any stretch of the imagination but the Dragons aren't the HP bloaters that we got in Fallout 3.

Dragons are awesome it's true. Best thing with them is that they have many things they may do during a fight. It's looks very good when they land down on a roof of a house so naturally and it's awesome when you shoot them down from the sky and they make the ground to roll when they drop on it. And their finishers are nice to see too - when you see a dragon picking NPC in his mouth it's something which makes you wanna to run and fast.

They should have been extremely scripted or only appeared as named creatures. The main quest creates so much unneeded chaos even after it is completed. They appear far too often to be a joy to kill and considering this game was being advertised with dragons as one of the big deals about it, that isn't a good thing. They also have made any care I had about them in this game go away because they appear too much when they start appearing.

I would say Drakengard did the whole dragon stuff better, but there wasn't many dragons in that game and the only important ones simply were either dying or killing the person they made a pact with while dying. The controls for that game were really dodgy, as well. Imagine Dynasty Warriors without being able to run and not look like your legs are glued. There's the ground combat. Now the Spyro games probably would be counted if Spyro was a horse dolphin instead of a dragon. Hehe.

I like them. I wish they were stronger, but I don't think they show up too often either. I tend to go 4-5 days (Real time) without even seeing a dragon.

Absolutely.

I've gone as far as using TGM just because it's such an annoyance to get attacked by them at every turn.

And in my game there are still no random dragons :hehe:

Anyway, they have nice battle music and look good enough, but they go down too easy.

And they are actually Wyverns :P :bolt:

What fustrates me is that my warrior can never fight them. The dragon flies around teasing me with his shouts but never lands. I guess if I were a dragon I'd prefer to be in the air rather than on the ground near a dragonslayer. So I guess it's realistic haha.

What has been said, very well done, but to often and the fights are not intense enough. I have two characters right now, one has killed like 40 dragons, and they are way to easy for him now..... thunderbolts kill them without the dragon even having a chance to attack... it is kind of sad and not fun. The other has not given the dragonstone to the mage in whiterun and for a very good reason. His dragons are on delay.

But they are done VERY well. What games with dragons do we have to compare them to? Dragon Age? The dragons in that are very rare and very powerful, but the ones in Skyrim look, feel, and fly so much better.

I love them.

Ancient Dragons are 2nd most powerful enemy in Skyrim (Dragon Priests is the 1st).
Best Battles with them.
Epic Battle Music with them.
etc.

I am always up for a Dragon Battle in Skyrim, unlike in other games.... Bethesda knows what they are doing.

Dark Souls' dragons are way more creative and versatile, with different combat abilities, styles, attacks, etc...

In Dark Souls, you might encounter :

A Red Dragon, that's normal

An Undead Dragon...

A Scaleless Dragon, who is the traitor to the ancient immortal dragons... AND...

The GAPING DRAGON, which might be the most original dragon I've seen in a looooong time...

And then you'll see that :

A LOT of times....

DS pwns.
