Your techniques to stay awake all night long

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:40 pm

Well, I'm sure many of us will play BRINK a lot when it comes out, I'm planning to stay awake trough Friday and play the game for a looooooooooong time (And I'm sure I won't be the only one :whistling: ) So we had a topic about "What we eat while playing", so let us discuss how YOU stay awake for a long time.
I really do like a good, strong, black coffe and I mastered the caffeine usage to keep me awake if I want, my recept:
Take a huge cup (like 400ml-500ml) and make a really, really, really strong coffe BUT before you pour it with water, don't forget to use sugar, because it would cause you way too bitter taste in mouth and you would have to drink a lot to cover that taste (I'm considering the fact that you made a really strong coffe(I normally do not use sugar FYI)). So you pour it with boiling water, but only to like 250-350ml of the cup. Then you use milk, yes milk. Why? Because the drink won't be so hot and milk will keep you from starving as well. And then you can in fact instantly drink it. It tastes like a bitter capucino or something, which is not totaly my "cup fo tea" but it definetly works against sleeping :hehe: :D

I'm a graveyard shifter, so I'm usually asleep until early night time, so I'll sleep in the day of release, and then play [without being tired] clear into the next day until about noon.

Usually, consuming an ungodly amount of caffiene works. Turning off the lights and reading selections from creepypasta also helps to stave off sleep.

I've never really tried it with video games, but my line of work requires me to meet some ridiculous deadlines. Sometimes in order to execute something properly I have to stay up quite late..

I just put on some headphones and blast the volume.

If i just stay awake through the 25min or so at around 3AM during which I'm tired, I'm not tired anymore, even if I stay awake for an insane amount of time.

You WILL need some snacks of some sort! Candy, chips, popcorn, whatever... and 1 or 2 redbulls and you'll be fine!

I try to avoid staying awake for longer than normal. The game will probably be more fun if you're not sleep deprived, you know.

If you're dead set on it, get some 5-hour energy or amphetamine. You really don't need coffee and stuff if you're playing a game, either. I find that if I'm focused on an activity, I'll feel less sleepy (although, it will probably affect my performance).

The game won't grow legs and walk off.
Just go to sleep and it will be there in the morning.

When working, I need to have music to stay awake and stimulate my brain. But since you want to stay awake to play a game, just have fun I guess. I only fell asleep playing a game once, and that was an MMORPG, and I was lagging kinda bad so I drifted off and fell asleep on my computer chair.

for my planned gaming binges (when they happen) i try steer clear of heavy sugar content things like sweets and soft drinks. yeah they work for a bit, but when the crash comes it comes hard and instantly. what i do is buy a few big bottles of mineral water, lots of fruit and nut mix (easy to eat, good for you too) (bananas are awesome too) and lots of tea (same caffeine as coffee, just slower acting and longer lasting effects). when playing i keep a window open for fresh air. my record is around 50-60 hours, and i'm a heavy smoker so my energy levels are generally meh as it is

I usually plan ahead for all nighters. Depending on the game, I'll invite some friends over. But usually I get things like
Dr.Peppers or Energy Drinks (preferably Monsters)
Water for later on in the night
I make sure all my controllers are charged
I make sure I get plenty of rest during the day so I'll be energized.
Depending on how tired I feel, I'll either leave the lights on or off, on if i'm feeling tired.
I'll put on my headphones, and turn the volume up
Snack-wise, I like chips, cause they're easy to get and eat.

I love all-nighters

QI. I really can't get sleepy when it's in the background, let alone focusing on it.

Also, I heard that apples can be used as a caffeine substitute, or at least helps people stay up.

I just do something to distract me from my tiredness like playing video games or watching movies. Although, I would imagine you would have to be easily distracted (like me) for that to work.

Low temperatures. Open all the windows or crank up your AC... Cool air will keep you invigorated.

I've had a fair share of all nighter watch shifts, and I'll say that there's nothing I really use to stay awake. I just do it because it's my job. Although I've been known to down 5 hour energy in dire circumstances. :P
