Do you really think so?
Let's just wait and see the problems that will arise when a modded game is updated automatically by steam.
We don't all use console versions.

We don't have to wait. Fallout: New Vegas required Steam. I modded the crap out of it, and absolutely nothing bad happened when the game updated.

THE ONLY THING STEAM AFFECTS WHEN IT COMES TO MODDING IS THE FILE DIRECTORY.

I guess the ppl that freak out becouse somebody criticises never had a job yet. Its normal to evaluate and be evaluated guys so chill out.

i play it on pc and i don't like the:

Overall console hack'n slay feeling
The broken textures everywhere.
Bugs bugs bugs, good console works, so i can "tcl" here and there
The ui is a joke, nothin to get used to. why do i have to spend 3 mins in order to attempt to rest?

and the whole steam thing? the torrent was out on day of release bethseda! don't you get it? times where you can force pc users to buy something are over, so plx stop punishing the honest buyers with pointless [censored] like that.
go and look how the new HOMM did it. many extras in the game unlock only if your connected and thats the way to go.

I am extremely disappointed with Skyrim. I went and bought the hard copy, not being a fan of digital downloads. Tried to install it, and it requires steam. This is a bad enough. I need Steam to run in the background to play Skyrim. Why is this necessary? My computer isn't the best, and running Skyrim isn't the easiest for it, so I have to run this spyware CRAP in the background too? Apparently this was done with Fallout as well, but I didn't play them so I was unaware of this idiocy.

So I start playing the game, and the interface is just plain clunky. The lack of options in game annoys me to no end. I shouldn't have to hap-hazardly edit an INI file to make the game playable. Not even so much as a way to turn off the laggy mouse acceleration in game. Really Bethesda?

On the plus side, I don't get the complaints about graphics. I think they're gorgeous. Story is great and combat is enjoyable.

In the end though, I think this is where the relationship between Bethesda and my wallet ends. Truth be told, if Massachusetts hadn't made laws against returning software after purchase, I'd have brought this back to the store already and gotten my money back. An unfinished PC game isn't worth $60.

The purchase may be final but don't worry Bethesda, I promise it will be the last.

+1 man!

Shadows sux + Textures sux + Animations sux + Controls sux + Interfase sux = NO FEELING OF LIFE but feeling of a digital game.
I can't test gameplay actually because all of the "sux" parameters just makes me crazy. Game looks like an old computer game. Oblivion was a graphics revolution when out. Skyrim - not. Let console gamers plays that crap. Quiting playing Skyrim. Sorry.

I haven't played such a bad game since Dragon Age 2. Just bought it, didn't get past 30 minutes without uninstalling. Even if my computer was able to handle Skyrim, it would still be pretty bad and I would probably still not play it.

bingo... Skyrim "feels" like an arcade game... not a new realm to sit back and delve into like Morrowwind and oblivion... And I too hate the steam requirement.. Not all of us can even get internet yet where we live... Is NO ONE paying attention? I have had to forgo buying at least 100 titles this year because I do not have access to the internet... That is a 100 games that were not bought and lost sales that could have been.. I am but one person... but there are MANY like me out here which counts up to the millions in dollars lost in overall sales because of this crap.

Its like having a supposed huge game where you can do anything and be anything.

And then having it played on a NES controller.

And making sure it doesn't exceed the size limitations of a SNES Cartridge.

And people act like that in itself wont rob the game of a huge amount of depth.

So you're saying your computer can't handle Skyrim, you've spent 30 minutes in the game on a computer that can't handle it (Which means you've just about passed the tutorial), and you already have your judgement and uneducated opinion at the ready?

Some people never cease to amaze me, thinking random people on a gaming forum care about the ridiculous lack of an opinion they have.

uneducated opinion

"Uneducated" being the key word here. It's too bad that the uneducated opinions are the ones most frequently (and recklessly) thrown around these boards.

On topic, I'm not disappointed at all with the game. I am quite satisfied - but I also went into it expecting nothing beyond a great Bethesda game.

If I *had* bought it on PC, I wouldn't have an issue with Steam. I've got internet and Steam has only ever given me one problem and that was resolved before I could finish http://tinyurl.com/3kpqjc2 about it.

No .ini file edits needed for me.
Laggy mouse acceleration?
Clunky interface?
You didn't know Steam was required to play? Did a lot of research on this game, didn't you? BTW, Steam is an awesome program. BEST SALES EVER!
Bethesda will not miss you.

I am still undecided on the game so far, but I am underwhelmed with the graphics to be honest. Beth needs to put out a hi-def package for PC users. Anyway, regarding your Steam comment, I disagree. They used Steam in so it forces sales if someone wants it, as they can no longer buy the game second hand. I like Steam as well, but I seriously dislike Steam only games, ONLY being able to play on one account. My wife has a Steam account, but she cannot play the game I bought on her account since the activation code is tied to my account. They should at least allow a few more accounts to be able to play the same purchase like EA does. Hell, as much as I don't care for GFWL, at least I can play the same disc on as many Live accounts as I have; Fallout 3 was awesome in that respect.

MAXIMUM CONSOLE PORT ENGAGED

Also, to the babies complaining. Just wait for the inevitable mods. They will fix the game like they did with Oblivion.

While I was also extremely disappointed in my first 4 hours, I decided that Bethesda already stole my money so I would continue to play. I can now say that this game which I originally thought was an 81 out of 100 is more like a 95. It truly is epic after you get involved with the quests and overlook the terrible UI (still not used to it). All the citizens that you meet seem to be individuals with unique dialogues. The quests are more involved than Oblivion. It is a great game once you let go of the UI issues and minor bugs. Play through the initial pain and you'll see like I did.

30 hours in and still [censored]loads to do, thanks Bethesda!

(Only downer is the random crashes, but it's rare and only keeps me out for about 20seconds..)

The entire OP is about being upset needing to run Steam and wishing for a different interface.

Really, folks should think before they title a post. This one shouldn't of been "Absolutely Not Liking Steam & Interface"

Yeah I think this game is [censored] awesome. It's up there with Morrowind for me

:foodndrink:

Both are excellent games; both for very different reasons.

Leaps and bounds beyond Oblivion, in my humble opinion.

Its really no wonder not many developers make games like this anymore. So much goes into it and people still expect it to be perfect. Let me see, there is still MW3 to play, or Saints Row 3 coming out.. those developers put just as much time into their games as Bethesda put into Skyrim? Maybe Bethesda should cut the size of the game in half so they have more time to do everything people are complaining about.

Good grief, it's not like they're giving it away. $60 is a lot of money for a lot of people and yeah, I'd expect a little more than what I see here. The one thing that really detracts from this game is the feeble inventory management system, the map I can't even exit out of half the time and when I read a book in inventory I can't get out of it. Pretty annoying and none of this was a problem in Oblivion which I still think is by far the better game.

I couldnt disagree more. I absolutely fell in love with the game and can't believe how good it is.

Furthermore, Steam is not spyware nor does it affect the framerate or stability of games in anyway what so ever.
Secondly, the UI being clunky is not the only reason to return a game, LOL.... How about giving the thing that matters the most in games a chance, GAMEPLAY?

At least state reasonable logical flaws that make you extremely disappointed, not listing Steam out of principle of being anti-what-everyone-uses. lol
AMG I H8 MICROSHOTT, IMMA NOT PLAY GAMES ON WINDOWS.

Come on...

Edit: and you can get out of reading a book in the inventory, press Tab. It's called learning the controls. Tab always goes back or closes.

Best game I've played since Morrowind.

Besides the look, I'd say Morrowind is near perfect, in terms of having RPG elements but not overly complex, deep and involving story lines, complex social structures and character relationships.

I feel that Oblivion lacks a lot of those.

I also feel that Skyrim's social and character elements are up there with Morrowind, and that to me is way more important than complex leveling and 10 more skills. I enjoy this game immensely thus far.

You don't need to convince me it's a fun game. I'm still going to play it, since I shelled out the money for it. Besides the random crashes to desktop, which are extremely annoying, it's still fun. The UI puts a huge damper on things.

I just feel like Bethesda didn't spend enough time on the polishing of the game to make it suitable for PC. It's a poor port.

Now how Bethesda handles the patches and fixes... that'll decide whether or not I ever touch another one of their products.

it's definitely a near perfect experience on the PC with a gamepad. using mouse and kb it takes some playtime to get used to the clunky bits.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the game, but seriously OP, join us in the 21st century. Not into digital downloads? Thats like saying I'm not into email or online banking. Your like a betamax and I'm forced to ask the question .. "Do they still make you?".

Steam is without question, hands down, 100% the greatest thing that has happened to PC gaming since PC gaming was invented. At this point if your not on steam you are technically not even a gamer. (thats my opinion).

So you think its a bad game just because of tech issues and you even admit its a good story? Umm Im pretty sure this is your and your computers problem not Bethesda, I play on ps3 and mine plays perfectly, ironic for ps3 I know. Dont blame a game for tech issues dude, it's just whiney.
