Adoption is nice, but why not make our own babies ?

I think this will be done in next Elder Scroll. I am happy that Bethesda is making all this interesting and roleplaying things, that turns Skyrim almost into a simulator of medieval fantasy life. But i don't think there is way now to make pregnency, since how would you show it on females? They would have to make some kind of *flexible skeletons*, which would right now break all of the popular body mods. Not to mention it would require probably some scripts written, and also 9 months to wait...

But still i wwould like if they made it. Birthing a little dragonborn :-) Just imagine when he would start crying - Fus Roh Dah, and daddy would fly away.

The race would according to lore be the mother's, so no hybrids - but there still must be a baby for each race.

But my main reason not to like the idea is what others already stated - you have to wait nine months for the baby to be born, which isn't very fun for the female PC. And it doesn't end there, you know - it takes several years before a child isn't totally dependent on her parents - mostly the mother. Not very fun for the female PC. Or maybe we could get an armored baby sling so we could carry the baby with us when we go draugr-hunting?

But ok, let's do it with realism. Giving birth has historically been (and still is, in some parts of the world) probably the most dangerous thing a woman can do. So make sure to stack up with healing potions and spells before it's time to deliver the baby, unless you (or the wife, for male PC's) won't die in the process! And then get that armored sling on and go adventuring. Every hour, you'd be forced into "baby conversation", when baby wants to feed, get a new diaper or just wants to be entertained. Even in the middle of fights. Oh, and monsters, bandits and beast can of course kill your baby, so you must defend the little one as well as yourself. Or, you could leave the baby at home, which wouldn't be a problem for males, but females would need to hire a wetnurse. Or, in worst case, a goat, which probably would mean your baby is dead next time you come home.

Ok, I was being sarcastic when I first started writing this, but I've change my mind - babies could be fun, but only with a hardcoe, realistic mode.

You skipped the point where I write that they could just throw us a "9 months later" screen and completely skip the pregnancy period.

@MotokoCarter: And why should everyone else be denied the fun ? I mean I play a sword+shield character, but I wouldn't mind if there was a DLC coming out with huge magic enhancement so those who play mage characters can have fun.

I saw it, but didn't approve. ;) Usually, you have a whole bunch of active quests, should you just put them on hold for nine months as well? "Sorry, no civil war now, the Dragonborn is pregnant!" "Sorry, Alduin will have to wait, the Dovahkiin must stay at home and look after his pregnant wife!"

I didn't thought of that, but hey, either way you can postpone everything in Skyrim's world as much as you want to.
Hmm... what if something happened to you and your family in particular and somehow 9 months passed only for you,and not the rest of the world ? This could also be a part of a quest accompanying the dlc. Imagine a Daedric Prince playing with time or something.

They wouldn't be denied would they? For people who have a same-six-marriage in the game would have the adopt option, and for everyone who isn't in a same-six-marriage would have the "natural" way or the adoption option.
