You mean in-game months ? :P
I wouldn't have a problem. But it could be made so it doesn't need to take 9 months.

I hope there will be a mod for that :) I'd love to keep the Brondolf line alive.

I can think of several reasons.

1. Equality. Bethesda has done their best to allow same-gender couples the same rights as opposite-gender ones. Homosixual couples would not be able to produce children.
2. Interfertility. Neither would marriages in which one of the people was Argonian or Khajiit, and possibly orc as well.
3. Genetics. They would have to have a mechanic for determining the physical appearance and capabilities of any number of combinations, from Nord-Altmer to Breton-Bosmer.
4. Mechanics. They would have to create an infant growth mechanic: infant to toddler to small child to... et cetera.
5. Logistics. How is an 8-1/2 months pregnant female Dragonborn going to climb mountains, battle dragons, and flatten bandits?

Because the PC is not necessarily some dude who can knock up his lady and then continue his adventures while she does all the actual "making" of said baby.

Making your own babies = a lot of boring downtime for female characters, or else a lot of immersion-breaking nonsense involving maternity armor and waddling through dungeons until your water breaks. I'll pass, TYVM.

It's not the wait, it's the way the engine handles NPCs. It just isn't advanced enough to handle dynamic aging of NPCs.

Meh, one little bug and boom, after waiting nine months two nords somehow end up reproducing an argonian. And she said it was over between them....

Not to mention every race and gender would have to have a model for baby/toddler forms. I just think this is one of those cases were the work wouldn't be worth the reward, for both the game makers and the players.

The game only has Nord and Redguard children models. Beast races and elves would be left out if procreation was put in.

I forget which book, but there is one that states the offspring always take on the form of the mother's race, though it is possible to gain some racial traits from the father. The book also says there have been no recorded successful births between beast races and human races. Lots of claims, but nothing actually recorded.

I don't think it would be that complicated, you don't really need dynamic aging. You could have a baby, then after several game months, you get a toddler, then after a game year or two (ok, not as realistic, but I doubt many players would have several game years to wait), you can have your own bratty kid (jk - I actually like the kids in Skyrim, bratty or not).

It's probably be to hard since actual babies dot exist in skyrim and I don't think it'd look good with children the age of 10 poping out of your wife's vag so adoptions seems ok.

Yes, that's Racial Phylogeny, I remember that. None recorded yet, which means it's not actually discounted.
