Ammunition Types

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:08 am

Tactics had the option to shoot both barrels or one. I like the idea of having two types of shells in the same gun.

what, no specialty ammo? acid for the squirt gun?

Yeah I want that as well.

Tracer rounds of any bullets would be awesome to see at night. They were invented during WW1. They would be great for Big Guns.

I don't know if they also go by

I think it's kind of creepy going on Wikipedia and searching for ammunition types, and tracer rounds sound like bullets that follow you around by tracking you through telecommunications. End.

Thanks, that would be pretty cool in New Vegas but only if they came in different colours. Pretty colours...

It would be nice, if tracers were an option and not a standard as in Fallout 3. Wanna see where you're shootin'? Use tracers, but exclude the benefits of other types of ammo and be more easily spotted by enemies.

Getting chills of me having a little fireworks party, but a group of Radscorpions see the pretty colours and they slowly advance towards me, with their snapping claws and jaws clacking with anticipation...to eat me....

I think that nice crosshair does the job just fine :3 As for why it?s only tracer, well because it?s just so much more satifying knowing your shooting your gun, in real life you don?t see much of the bullet you shoot...unless it?s a tracer round.

So it?s a classic case of appealing aesthetics wins over realism

i.e 'Pretty Colours'
Crosshairs don't exist in real life, unless you are a pilot.

As you said. The crosshair does the job of tracers (though you can't see the spread without them). I was not after realism in particular, though that would've been the case if it was implemented that way. Just some gameplay mechanics. I didn't like too much about the "every round is a tracer" aspect, it kinda ate the punch from the guns (for the lack of better words) though it didn't bother me and without iron sights they probably were needed too. Anyways, just an idea.

The best ammo for video games is: realistic ammo you nerds!!!

FMJ: This is standard/Primary ammo! damage varies, but a rifle round usually goes through several walls, a pistol round through 1
Incendiary: This doesnt set things on fire! it will ignite gas tanks, etc.
Explosive: No
Armor Piercing: This is what all the Call of duty people calll FMJ. penetrates metal, or other hard targets better (like armored things - mirelurks), but does slightly less damage to humans because the bullet passes straight thru instead of expanding in the target. ONLY FOR RIFLES
Hollowpoint: does more dammage to human/soft targets, less damage to armored targets, less wall penetration
For Shotguns:
Buckshot - standard military 00 Buck load ~9 pellets
Deer Slug - massive damage, extended range, but only one projectile, not as accurate as a rifle
Others could include rubber buck shot to take enemies alive, or birdshot for small animals like bloatflies, radroaches, etc.

also there needs to be specific ammo, not just "Assault Rifle Ammo", "Sniper Ammo"

They need to hire someone to oversee weapons design...

eh the amount is 12, a shells gauge is based how many pellets it holds based on a set weight of lead

12 gauge= 12 pellets

10 gauge= 10 pellets

20 gauge= 20 pellets etc

also this isn?t Call of New Vegas, this isn?t suppose to be a gun nerd jackof material.

It sounds like the shell is more powerful the more pellets it has, so that would make a 20 gauge more deadly than a 12 gauge. But I've heard that the smallar gauge, the deadlier. The deadliest shotgun shell is a 4 gauge. I'm no weapon expert so I don't know how that works.

not really, the size of a pellet determine it?s damage, since there is a set amount of lead you use to make the pellets the more pellets you make the smaller it is. Or to put it simple

the higher the number of pellets the less damage each pellet does but naturally the more pellets there is the more likely you hit, the 12 gauge is the one most popular because it has a good balance of damage and how easy it is to hit.

I think it's the other way around lower the gauge number the more powerful higher the least. More pellets but they are smaller in the 20. 10 the pellets are bigger. so yea you were right about the smaller the gauge more deadly it is.

what the Net has to say:

"Shotgun shells are generally measured by "gauge," though in Britain and some other locations outside the United States the term "bore" is used with the same meaning. Rifles and handguns are almost always measured in "caliber," which is simply a measurement of the internal diameter of the barrel and, consequently, the diameter of the projectile fired. By contrast, shotguns are usually measured by "gauge," which is the weight, in fractions of a pound, of a lead round shot the same internal diameter as the barrel.

For example, a shotgun is called 12 gauge because a lead sphere that just fits the inside diameter of the barrel weighs 1⁄12 of a pound. This measurement comes from the time when early cannons were designated in a similar manner—a "12 pounder" would be a cannon that fired a 12 pound (5.5 kg) cannonball; inversely, an individual "12 gauge" shot would in fact be a 1⁄12 pounder (38 g). Thus, a 10-gauge shotgun has a larger-diameter barrel than a 12-gauge shotgun, which has a larger-diameter barrel than a 20-gauge shotgun, and so forth"

No.of lead balls in one pound diameter of lead balls
10 0.78" (19.7 mm)
12 0.73" (18.5 mm)
16 0.66" (16.8 mm)
20 0.62" (15.6 mm)
28 0.55" (14.0 mm)

no different kinds's of rpg ammo or flamer fuel? maybe have a choice of color or a temperature gauge...blue flame's out of a flamer. It would be nice if the player could ambush mob's with own Bouquet of Grenade's.

I liked the Ammo system in FO2. It needed a little tweaking but it was good.

No thats completely wrong. the gauge is the diameter of the bore. 12 gauge is if you took 1/12 of a pound of lead and rolled it into a ball the diameter would be 12 gauge( about 72 caliber i think) Also, I didnt mean nerd as in geek, I use nerd as a term for idiot.

As the gauge gets smaller, the diameter gets bigger. so, a 12 gauge is bigger tham a 20 gauge. the largest commonly used "gauge" is 10, although they go up to 2 (this is literally a harpoon gun) 12 is most common because it is the biggest you can get without too much recoil like a 10 gauge. also its just more widley available arouind the world

Yeah I like the idea of different ammo types, it would make battles a little more tactical and make you think the situation out better, you wouldn't use hollow points on someone wearing power armour.
