Answering questions regarding the PC for a couple hours.

I hope by the time I play there is a UI mod that allow you to navigate via WASD keys, how could they possible over look that, its baffling. The UI is set for the up,down, left, right input, it was designed that way and yet you can't do that via WASD.

Edit:
I just read another review and the reviewer says the "list of items and spells are all easily navigable with WASD".

@Morttifera, I always make E jump and Space bar active in games because of Morrowind(first pc rpg I played). Regardless of the game I try to map as close as possible to how I had the keys in Morrowind. Very happy there are one button map and journal keys, which I will remap to c and v most likely.

Couple questions,
1. Does the bow and arrow have special finish moves like up close melee?
2. Can you see jewelry on your hands even with gloves on?
3. Does casting a frost spell have an environmental effect like fire does on grass. I.e. does frost freeze water?

1. = No only melee has finishing moves, magic and arrows do not.
2. You can see them on your fingers without gloves, with them I'm not sure.
3. It creates a "frosty" effect on things it touches. It doesn't physically freeze the water itself. The effects are very well done though, you won't be disappointed.

Yeah I agree that was an oversight. Just need to get your mouse action on.

Yes you can. Left click = Right hand. Right click = Left Hand. It's that simple.
It doesnt work for me, right click = spell is assighned to left hand.
left click = nothing.
I dont understand why.

Keep em comin fellas, if you want someone who actually played the game for more than 10 minutes before complaining to answer questions.

Lol good call, good call.

And thank you for the actually well-reasoned and level-headed thoughts on the menu system. What a rarity.

One question, are you finding the precision of the mouse to be as big of a benefit as it often is in other games? I guess what I am wondering overall is if using a controller would be a better experience until a UI mod comes out. The only game on PC I have ever used a controller on was Assassin's Creed, and it worked great. But I do miss that instant precision you get from the mouse. And the hotkeys of course, though from the sounds of things that might not be such a big advantage in Skyrim.

I have the HD 5770. In the hardware guide, it said I could play on high detail settings. But your card is significantly better. I'm wondering what FR's I'll get, if you're pulling 30 with lots of NPC's. Not sure if you know your hardware, but if so, how do you think the card will perform?

So is this reviewer wrong, the one that saids you can use WASD to navigate on pc?

Also has the get on a rock/high place and kill stuff exploit been fixed?

No problem, this is keeping me from going mind numbingly bored while at work too!

I honestly cannot tell you, you'll be able to play it for sure though depending on your CPU. Probably medium settings with a decent enough res.

Kefka, in some instances yes and others no. For instance if you're selecting what to say to someone the wasd keys are not going to work. In other menu's it does. It actually makes it easier if you just uniformly use your mouse or not...for me anyway.

Also has the get on a rock/high place and kill stuff exploit been fixed?
Spoiler
No it's still exploitable, which is what I mentioned in an earlier post...I just don't do it

I'm in Australia and it's after 11am on 11/11/11. I've installed the pc version of Skyrim, activated it sucessfully in steam and it's updated and ready to play. When I try to play however, the opening splash/start screen only has the install option on it, NOT the play option.

What's going on here? Has Australia been activated for play yet?

It's not as big of a benefit as it would be in a straight up FPS of course but it's still much better than a knob on a piece of plastic. The only problem with the mouse is I have it set ALL the way to max sensativity and it still isn't fast enough for me...I like to be able to spin 3 times in one swipe with my mouse, need to tweak my mouse settings in the OS when I get home.

Either controller would work fine, you're not giong to need the precision you need in a game like MW3.

I should be more clear then as to what I am referring to.

When in the inventory menu's, does the WASD keys work like the d-pad on consoles. So you use W and S to go up and down through the choices, books, armor, etc and D and A to go into and out of the imbedded menu's for those catagories. So for example, I go into my inventory screen press S a few times to move down to books, the press D to get into the book sub menu were I continue to use up and down to scroll through the books, pressing the mouse buttom to read the book? The review said you could press the activate button regardless of where the mouse cursor was in the inventory screen, whatever was currently highlighted would be activated.

Can you elaborate on your system specs and how your computer is handling the game? I know you're at work so I'll lessen the work involved, just quote me and fill in:

CPU:
GPU:
RAM:
Are you using an SSD:

Misc questions:

Are you experiencing any bad stuttering/frame drops/screen tearing? Could you please explain what negatives (performance wise) you've experienced?

What grade would you give the graphical customization options (good ranges of AA, AF, post-processing effects) from F- to A+?

I already know I'm going to like the game, so just getting an idea of what I should expect in the more technical areas.

Edit: Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions dude, much appreciated.

Do actions that require clicking both mouse buttons at the same time work alright? (dual wielding the same spell, shield bashes, etc.)

Lovely. :cryvaultboy:

I'll try that but this is certainly souring the experience.

The one major problem I saw was that you cannot rebind keys that are passively bound to something else in the UI. For instance I wanted to rebind my F key to "sneak". By doing this I could not Favorite an item in my inventory because "F" is used as the default and you cannot rebind it for setting favorites. The same goes for R (which happens to be the key they make you use to drop items).. YOu cannot rebind that one either. That's the only two I noticed so far.

Honestly - if Bethesda even cared one bit about PC gamers something that ignorant should have NEVER made it out of quality testing. Period. Unbindable keys this day and age is inexcusable.

If Bethesda didn't care one bit about PC gamers they wouldn't continuously support the modding community and take advice from it.

Yes in that instance it does work like a D-pad...sorry I was confused with your prior question. There are some menus that do not work with WASD though, such as picking speech choices.

Can you elaborate on your system specs and how your computer is handling the game? I know you're at work so I'll lessen the work involved, just quote me and fill in:

CPU: core2duo 2.3 GHZ (Low end for a CPU)
GPU: GTX 560 1 GB
RAM: 4 GB
Are you using an SSD: Nope

As you can see, I do not have a supercomputer and it runs great on high/ultra settings at 1920 res. It looks fantastic.

The options for customizing the graphical interface is top notch...you can literally adjust everything. That said I really didn't tinker with it too much, I more or less just installed and made initial setting then played. Pretty much as long as you have a decent GPU you'll kick this game in the teeth and it'll look great.

your welcome!

Works fantastic, my character was dual wielding and the effects are great and they feel right.

No, they simply port the game over to the PC community and leave it "as is" to allow the players to fix the mess they're given. That is a perfectly clear sign that they do not care about the quality of the experience that PC players get with their product.

A UI designed for a controller is frustrating enough - but not allowing you to rebind certain keys and not allowing any "pop up tutorials" to show you the remapped key properly is simply lazy and something that a developer that doesn't care would do.

Sweet! I am very plese to hear of these UI changes, remapable map and journal key, sweet, WASD key navigation in inventory sweet. Both should have been done multiple games ago. Thanks for the info, these were my major concerns regarding the UI.

As for the person deriding Beth's treatment of pc players, Beth is by far one of the Best dev's when it comes to pc. Why? Because of there powerful mod kit, unless a company releases a good mod kit with there game, I don't consider them that great with the pc audience. The guys that make Witcher 2 are often talk about like there so good to pc players, if so were is the mod kit? Skyrim is much more pc friendly than Witcher 2 and pretty much all the other recent rpg released for pc.

Yes, your mouse wheel is very useful in this game and you'll be using it often.

PS - Any game with this much hype is going to have people screaming bloody murder if it didn't come out exactly the way THEY wanted it to. Truth is I play this game for the story and the interation with the NPC's... not how fast I can fly through my inventory.

I have more questions! How would you compare the size and frequency of the 'zones' as opposed to Oblivion - as in how often do you feel you are sitting at a loading screen? I'd say you have a pretty average computer (and I mean no offense, it's just a good system to judge off of for most people) so this could give us an idea of what to expect.

P.S. Quit your [censored]in' about the UI. The OP is the only one in this thread qualified to speak on the matter, and he has stated that it's not that big of a deal and isn't significantly affecting his experience. Grow a pair.
