Anyone else gave Katawa Shoujo a try?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 4:27 pm

Nah havent replayed it. Just dont fel like it, im satisfied with what I got out of it.
Actually I havent replayed any VN I own. I will just hang on to them. Then maybe in a few years I will replay it.

Next VN I get, is going to be KLS.
That one will definitely depress you, though not in a bad way as the previous one seems to have done.

The previous one didnt depress me, just made me rage. I was told her path would either result in either rage or sadness.
My problem was one scene. I stopped reading it there. I eventually read it, and while im angry at that scene. Not continuing made it worse.

I dont consider this being effected in a bad way either. It showed I genuinely cared for the characters, to get me so emotional. I am also glad I ended up on that path. The way it would be if I didnt, is as bad, if not worse.

Also after some browsing I now have a good number of VNs on my list to buy.

Hotel Dusk, so you have a DS?

In that case, you should look into http://vndb.org/v3112 and the Ace Attorney series. Just stay away from Wikipedia, they have tons of unmarked spoilers in there.

Hotel dusk is only for the DS ?
Damnit I knew I should have researched them all more. I know a few of those are in Japanese though

Well there are still quite a few on that list, buying them all should take me a good bit of time. By the endof it I will liekly find more reccomendations.

Downloaded the game yesterday and finished it today.

I must say it was really good. Great story, that made me feel really connected to the characters.

Spoiler
I went down the Emi path and it brought a tear to my eye on more that one occasion.

The whole time I was playing, I wanted to know what would happen next. It kept me hooked unlike a lot of games in this day and age.

Glad you enjoyed it Clintos :D

You've got plenty of playtime left though with the other paths, hope you'll enjoy them as much as you have the Emi route.

I keep on thinking that I ought to leave it a little while before replaying some of the routes given it's over a month now it seems like it's a little too soon. Then again I heard The Dango Family song from Clannad and it made me go all soft and quiet and I only finished watching Clannad a week ago.

Though arguably not as strong as Katawa Shoujo, Christine Love's anologue: A Hate Story is certainly worth checking out. Just finished one of the routes today and found the buildup and interaction to be both effective and rewarding. The big reveal was moving and angering but well handled. The price may put some people off but please do give the trial a go to see if you're intrigued. I'm glad I bought it.

Did make me think what would be a good price for Katawa Shoujo had it been a priced release. I'm thinking about £10 - £20. How about everyone else?

Another title that you may want to have a look at, just started playing is Kara no Shōjo, detective story with a mystical overtone, you carry out an investigation as well as the more usual VN fare. Some really funny parts as well.

Play Hanako's story. I loved that one.

Also try Narcissu (link to download in my sig) you dont have any choices, but its a great story.

Yeah £10-20 sounds good. Its about how much YMK cost me, but KS has more routes.
Also saw Planaterian for 1050 yen, About £9, allthough its like narcissu with no choices. I would buy it already, but sadly the site is japanese, I need to enter my name in Katakakana to register :/

VNs would be more popular if they werent so hard to get hold of.

For more plot focused VNs I just finished http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YU-NO:_A_girl_who_chants_love_at_the_bound_of_this_world recently, and it was amazing. I'm thinking that one may be my all time favorite now.

Also after opening that file AVG detected a Trojan.

Sounds like you need to shoot Manga gamer an email to see what's up.

Ok, just wondered if anyone here knew what was going on, seeing as a few people seemed to use the site.

Apparently I can try

It can sometimes be fixed by following the procedures below.
Step 1

Update the signature of the security software of the latest one.

Step 2

Set the executable so it will override the firewall in the settings.
Please refer to the manual of your security software.

Step 3

The activation program will create a file necessary to process the activation every time the game executable file is launched.
However, a security software may misjudge this process as a virus and intervene with the activation.
As countermeasure, please set the following as exceptions of your security software.

  • The install folder of the game (Where the executable file is)
  • The TEMP folder

... How do I do this ?

You can find out if it's AVG causing the error by temporarily pausing it while you try running the game. If it works, then look in the AVG options for something like "whitelist" or "exclusions" and add the game folder (I don't think you should add the whole TEMP directory though).

It may be easier to just dump AVG altogether and go with a better antivirus.

There's probably an option to pause it when you right click the icon on the bottom right near your system clock.

U-Uh NO! Why would I read VN about crippled girls? HAHAHHAHAHAHA! Especially an anime one. Who do you take me for? Somebody who falls for fictional blind women who are perfect in every way. :hehe:

Spoiler
Heh they totally don't expect anything. Who would have expected me to have read KS on the first day it came out and be discussing it on an other website for over a month?

Spoiler
Oh Lilly.

Those threads have been awesome. Like how the game motivated the one guy to propose to his disabled GF.
Also good for finding other VNs.

Anyway, thanks for the help, the game now works.

Also going to thank the people who have helped me get into VNs, giving reccomendations, sites to buy, and other info. I appreciate it, so thanks.

I didn't really believe Blind Fiance guy's greentext stories, I take most of them with a grain of salt.

He is a different guy. The one im talking about, is the guy with a GF who had both legs amputated.
I dont belive all of them though. Allthough even if only the small stuff, like people getting fitter turns out to be true. I think its good the game has done that.

The game has had more of a negative effect on me. Sadness and over 3000 images related to KS on my hard drive.

I have experienced negative effects too, loss of interest in games. Addiction to VNs (loss of money as a result), and feeling depressed as a result of some VNs
I regret nothing.

Edit: Ok AVG was the problem, keeps interfering. Cant fix it, so I will get another AV.
Also how would I make a shortcut/icon ? I keep having to extract the files to play the VN.
