Haha awesome. I doubt you could get close to upper level mages though on master with just prison clothes - unless you were a Breton and had the Lord Stone.
My Dual Wielder is an Expert practitioner of the Alteration School of Magic, and can achieve 80% damage resistance.
I quit playing her because She did get repetitive

I never wear helmet's, they all look weird on Khajiit o.o

And i'm always on Expert, thinking on going to Master since it gets a little too easy when your high enough level.

My class : my main weapons are Frost Destruction and Two-Handed swords, and don't really wear any armor.
Don't really know what you'd call that o.o

there is a no-helmet mod on nexus that removes the helmet from your face, but you can still get the stats. So its invisible helmet. You may want to try that.
I am always on Adept, because i did not do smithing, enchanting, upgrade equipments and i only invest in 4 perks everytime. I also used a mod that made my leveling 2x slower and several combat tweaks. Now i wont be able to 2hit KO a dragon priest.

I play on expert and use no helmet. I did the alchemy-loop some time ago and produced a smithing potion that boosted my armour, boots and bracers to a collective armour rating of 900+, so there's no need to wear an additional armour piece any more. I'm thinking of also ditching the armour in favour of some nice clothes or robes, since the boots and bracers rate around 240 each and should provide more than enough protection on their own. Also, since my stupidly over-buffed Daedric mace whacks enemies for 244 base damage, nothing ever lasts long enough to even get a hit on me anyways.

(Yes, I'm aware that buffing equipment with alchemy exploits can "break" the game and take away the challenge, but that's my choice)

I turned my game up to Expert for a little while and I had to use a few health potions on occasions but there wasn't really anything I couldn't kill.

Never wear helmets but I do wear a Nightingale hood with my Ebony armour.

This.

i'm going to try again.

how is it that playing without a helmet 'allows' you to see their face, yet, to see their face you have to rotate the view and in the meantime, a few seconds later, i've taken my helmet off and am also looking at my pc's face?

because unless you guys are playing the game from the side of your character or using inverted type control methods you ARE NOT looking at their face during movement or combat.

do you actually repeat, over and over again, the process of looking at your character?

does seeing the back of their head increase your immersion?

is it really just the added couple seconds it takes and so its a convenience thing? even though, i can still see my face when i wear most helmets.

i honestly don't get it, except, for rping and increasing difficulty.

Well...I look at my character's face quite often actually.
Plus, with the kill-cams, I get to see the face instead of the helmet.

I don't think I've ever worn a helmet in any game I've ever played.

Ok, it allows you to see face + hair. And when you are good with the camera controls it is nice to do once and awhile, say standing out on a rocky precipice with a stunning view as the sun sets, or for while talking to NPC’s, etc. I actually go 3rd person face shot zoomed in for every game save I make... I like scrolling through the saves seeing my armor/clothing location change through-out the game...

We are not looking at out faces during combat/movement.... so let that one go ;)

It’s mostly just aesthetics...

yes, i already know about 3rd and rotating. i'm talking about actually playing the game.

are you telling me that while you're playing the game you are looking at your character from the side while he's walking and not looking where he's going?

in combat, your doing the same thing?

all so you can see your characters face?

No, I play 95% of the time in 1st person. I've still rarely worn default TES helmets - they're ugly. I spend a good bit of time making my characters look the way I like. And those ugly helmets just aren't it. In Oblivion, I eventually got a "armored circlet" mod, that let me buy circlets & headbands that matched the strength of helmets I'd obtained (mostly for the enchantment slot). Skyrim already has circlets, so that's fine. Of course, you miss out on the "full suit of light/heavy" and "matched suit of light/heavy" perks.

This is one of the reasons I like the kill-cam finishers. I like to make my characters look good, the finishers let me see it in action. :D

----
Handy tip for light armor wearers who don't want a helmet. There IS a Light Armor circlet in the game. It's

near Froki's Shack, south edge of the Rift.

I'm playing on expert without one (a dual-wielding rogue and a mage). Some fights are pretty hard, but I haven't played with a helmet, so I'm not sure how much that contributes to the overall difficulty.

I am struggling with it on expert - I had to turn it down from master. Most enemies are fine, but at level 49, I run into some bad asses.

How about you? No helmet? What level? What difficulty? What class?

lvl 65 mage, archmage robes + circlet on expert: I kind have to avoid getting hit a bit, but I'm very powerful so I don't get hit too much. If I panic, I can summon 2x dremora lord.

I wear full iron armor with no helmet at level 42, but with smithing I still have a 424 armor rating. I play on Expert.

Playing on Expert, but due to having several mods that both reduce armor effectiveness and AI of enemy I tend to use it. at level 28 with the thief guild armor I have now 72 AR. No perks in light armor yet so for my part so once I start putting points there I might just drop the helmet. Depending on difficulty etc.

This guy just doesn't get the concept that some people think their character looks better without a helmet. That's all there is to it. It has nothing to do with trying to stare directly into your own character's face while you fight. It has to do with all the other, random and controlled, moments when you can see your character.

Someone already mentioned, looking around, killcams, conversations, and the occasional 3d person pan-around.

I'm the same way, I think helmets look horrid in this game. So I have a mod that reduces most helmets to circlets and other crowns. I use that.

What "process"? You swing the camera around. It's no more involved than the "process" of swinging a sword or the "process" of walking. I look at my characters from all angles, all the time. No, I can't during combat, but the game is not 100% combat. How much time do you actually spend in combat mode in this game? 20%? 10%? Less. This isn't Space Invaders. The vast majority of my time is spent traveling between objectives.

----------

Personally, I'm a wimp who just plays on Adept, but my characters only wear what's natural to them. My mage just wears hooded robes. My thief changes clothes all the time, but usually wears a hat because it's cold in Skyrim. My warrior wears light armor and no helmet when traveling, and changes into her heavy battle dress when entering a dungeon or preparing to charge a giant camp. That includes a helmet, of course ... only a fool would enter battle with their head exposed on purpose.

I play the game in third person the majority of the time. I think your just nit-picking! My character has lovely hair and I like to be able to see it. Besides an icky helmet would ruin that :(
Exactly. I play on default difficulty, and none of my characters wear helmets or hoods. I want to see their hair and their faces. Besides, I put too much time and effort into creating their faces to cover them up in iron or steel.

I play on Master, and some of my characters don't wear helmets for RP reasons. Does that affect their combat ability? Not a whit, because I heavily smith and enchant my gear. As such, I don't actually miss the additional armor rating, since it would be overkill.

I also tend to match the circlet, armor, and weapons to their skin tone whenever possible (I play Argonians, so have a wide range of colors to choose from), as that just looks 'right' to me. That does mean that some of my characters use items made from 'inferior' materials, but it's worth it if they have the proper appearance.
