[REQ] Armor Part Merge (Ancient NordSteel + StuddedScaled)

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 8:32 pm

First time I request something I can't manage myself.

I was browsing the Nexus lately for new stuff and noticed some mods which had armors made of different armor parts (for example: Upper Falmer + Lower Foresworn armor merged together).

So I was wondering about something like that what I'd really like to have for my own character:

Since I like the lower part of the Scaled/Studded Armor pretty much, I'd love to see a merge of that with two of my favourite armors in Skyrim, Steel and Ancient Nordic.

I made a quick photoshop edit on how I imagine it to look like (some of the the armor textures are edited/downloaded):

http://s7.directupload.net/images/111204/58q47yf3.jpg
http://s14.directupload.net/images/111204/z4paznu5.jpg

Maybe someone with the right skills is getting an inspiration from those screens and would like to do this for me/the community (if possible at all).
Of course, I won't take any credit for this. You're absolutely free to do with that what ever you like.

I'm afraid I can't give much in return except for minor texture edits and the promise that I'll work on some mods for the community after the release of the CK.

I'd be so happy if at least one of those two could be made.

I was just thinking to make this yesterday when I first saw the ancient nord armour , I woudl do but I dunno if it would work , I mean I dunno how to export from my 3dsmax to game , other than that I can do and rig the model outside I guess provided Ican get how to import a skeleton , this modding is extremely annoying and difficult mostly not for making stuff but couse you have to turn into an hacker to make it work ingame ....

on top of that anyway my idea was , to remove most of the fur stuff from the upper nord armour , transform the dragonplate armour into a nordig armour , just by remaking the back of it , and add matching texture, remake the lower pants of the nord armour that so far looks pretty gay with that thin strip of leather so fitted on the ass and front , and add proper leg protections in style of the nord upper parts , also the forearms to me woudl ook good a retexture of the scale dragon ones .... as for the boots I don't like the nord ones but I could either make new or faster to do find something else o tretexture ...

and BTW it is a shame that bethesda decided to merge the whole armor thing into one single slot , this stuff woudl have been easily done by simply mix matching instead , no , they wanted to reduce slot numbers for armors , merge greaves / pants to upper cuirass , wonder who was to decide that crap , even couse I honestly didn't see any increment in the number of actors from last games on countrary I notice even less actually ....

For my personal taste, I'd love to have it the way like it looks on the screenshots, without further modification/removal of parts/replacement of armors.

And yeah, after playing Skyrim for so long, I really can't figure out why it was necessary to merge the armorparts. Cities have the same amount of people like in the other elder scrolls titles.

That merge is probably another symptom of Skyrim's rampant consolitis. At least boots and gloves are still separate; they could have gone the Fallout route and merged those, too.

At least in FO you don't get the absurd level of clipping, or the horrible rigging that's in Skyrim. Even using all the same type of armor.
If you want to cringe:
Equip ebony armor and helmet on male. Look at the back of the neck.
Equip ebony armor on female. Look at the shape of the left arm.
Equip iron armor on male/female. Hit control to sneak. Turn camera around to look at the legs at the knee joint.
Equip leather braces when wearing any armor that has sleeves.
Sneak or swim with a dagger sheathed, she how it goes through your leg.
One handed finishers while holding a shield, the sword goes right through the shield.
Meshes are not detailed: things like belts, leather straps, buttons, etc on cuirasses are all handled by the normal maps, not the meshes anymore like it was with Oblivion.
I can go on and on...

Personally, I am just waiting for the Blender tools to begin not only fixing this stuff, but bringing in some stuff from Oblivion.

You should just skip the modeling program altogether. The kind of copy/paste rearranging of existing assets your talking about can be done fully within Nifscope without any file conversions and loss of rigging.

If you know how then tell me , but looking at those models they are one single piece not separated ones ... so a 3rd party program is mandatory as far as I can tell ....

I just want the Ancient Nordic Armor with some sort of pants, aka any armor bottom that isn't barelegged. I'm so sick and tired of Skyrim's lack of pants, as one expect the cold north to be the one place where people wear fully covering clothes/armors...

This user have made two armor mods, each put together by merging two different armors. So I guess your best shot for now would be to ask him/her, assuming that this modder will reply.

I was playing with this type of idea last night (wanted the Redguard cape over miner clothes. It...works. Sort of. Have an interesting issue I've got to sort out with the _1.nif version) . Basically all I did was copy the texture files for each outfit with a new name. Then I created a new alpha channel on the Redguard clothes texture so that ONLY the cape part would be visible. In NifSkope I then opened the redguard clothes mesh and chose my new texture to confirm I'd done the alpha correctly. Copied that branch to the miner clothes mesh (this took some fiddling with node string ids to make it work).

Basically, http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/NifSkope_customise_an_outfit_for_beginners :)

Indeed I ooked the cleric armor and I can't say if is it made by mixmatched pieces or if is a total remake , I do not know all armours ingame and surely not the female ones , so it is a replacement or is a mixmatch or is a total edit or a new mesh?

There are several armors that I'd like to mix like this... such a shame that Bethesda decided to merge armor parts.

I wonder if it would be possible to divide the sets with mods later on and make upper and lower divided, like in Oblivion. Maybe there are unused slots that can be used, like in Fallout 3?

He answered and explained me the trick , wich is basically to have two armours at the same time on you , just deleting portions in one and the other texture seems.... anyway I pointed him to this thread so may be he coudl do something about , I really don't like to mess too much with niftools as I always found them too complicate to waste more time than the needed stuff to import export ...

Right, the trick is what I linked to in my previous post. Nifskope has some very good tutorials out there that are easy to follow to get started with.

I would love to see the ancient Nord armour with that studded skirt, just what my character needs.

Thanks to you, and thanks to everyone else who's discussing :)

I guess it would be selfish to say that I only need the male one. If you could do both, I think you'd make a lot of people happy.

I've messed around a little with nifskope and removed/pasted over some branches to see what happens. Of course, nothing good x3
The thing with the "two armors at once with hidden textures" sounds promising though...
