Assassin's Creed Possible Main Character Leak

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:32 pm

I was doing my daily sweep on IGN when I found http://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1219745p1.html. Apparently this picture was taken by an internal Best Buy employee. It shows a VERY intriguing view of the new main character for Assassin's Creed III, if the snapshot turns out to be real. No Ezio? Check. A 3 in the name? Check. Taking place in America? Check. Consider my interest peaked.

EDIT: It is real! The next Assassin's Creed game WILL take place in North America and the leaked picture is in fact legit.

Also, the box art was released today by Ubisoft, seen http://m.ign.com/articles/1219789. And, thanks to tgl1992, we also have the cover of next month's Game Informer (hint: it's this game) and an interesting excerpt, right http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/03/01/april-cover-revealed-assassin-39-s-creed-iii.aspx.

Looks more like fan art to me. But anything is possible.

I'm very excited for this to say the least  I was never a huge fan of Assassins Creed until I played Revelations, I'll definitely be getting this on release date. I hope they keep it somewhat historically accurate, it'll be good to teach kids about the revolution.

Edit: That is, if it's real of course :P

Wow I have to say that picture looks awesome. If the picture turns out to be true then it looks like its taking place during the Revolutionary War.

Assuming it's real I'm so very happy. I've wanted AC to go to the American revolution ever since the first game. Now I just need to play the other Ezio games to catch up on the story.

Same. I only played half of the story in Brotherhood and I haven't even touched Revelations.

Oh man. If this is concept art I'm gonna freak. It will be so cool if the third Assassins Creed it set in late 1700s America.

Revelations was short but sweet IMO.

I am probably in the minority but I would prefer they went further back in time. Egypt or Sumer or hell even taking place in the "garden of eden" places that we kind of see in some of the in game cinematics.

I just lost all interest. Out of all of the periods and places they could have chosen, they chose the one culture that's been covered 26,045,948 times.

:yuck: and :yucky: and :swear:

God, Ubisoft, you just don't know how to get ANYTHING right, do you?

Haven't played AC since the first one, don't plan on doing any more of them. The drawing does look good however

That's exactly what I was thinking. I hope it's a fake. Still, if it were true, I guess they could make something interesting out of it. We'll have to wait and see.

I hope it's a fake, that doesn't sound like a very interesting period for an AC game at all. For me anyway. But it sounds pretty likely that it's real.

They ruined AC. 1 and 2 were brilliant. Then they just rehashed the game over 2 more times, what a joke. They could have gone to Japan, China, Northern Europe, Mexico, or peru during the Aztec or Mayan periods.

So much potential and they botched it! I still get angry thinking about it from time to time.

Although Native America would be kinda cool. It doesn't look real to me though.

I think if they work on the story properly they could do a good job. A story about a Native-American somehow involved in the Revolutionary war could workout to make an incredible game.

I think it could be interesting. The assassin in the picture looks to me like he could be a Native American, I can see some feathers and he definitely has an axe. Besides that, I'm not from the US so I don't know all the details of the Revolutionary War and I don't know any games that are set in that particular time, so I'd say it could be interesting.

I think the only good part of AC story is the Desmond part. Altair and Ezio's are all very boring. And no more ninja and samurai please. The anime they made covered China but they don't seem interested in continuing, even though I don't find it anywhere interesting.

Still think it looks fake?

Besides, Desmond is American, its logical for him to have an American ancestor right?

Hope its real cause I wanted it to be in America, and upon finishing revelations it is pretty obvious it was going to be in America. Also choosing a Native to keep it melee oriented seems like the best choice. But going further than this would probably be a mistake...unless it turned into star wars.

I do hope they have enough new content though, that's what made revelations boring, lack of new stuff.

Has it? I'm trying to think of any recent game from that era. The only ones I can think of are a few western games set in the late 1800s, but none from the earlier colonial period. I want a free roaming game set during the US Civil War. But the revolutionary war will do.

If it's true, for once an interesting setting for AC.
Edit: this also looks like a VERY early concept art, so the final product might vary.

I was thinking more in terms of pre-independence, post-independence and modernity. It's such a bland choice. How many books, movies and games have already been made about (all the time periods of) the US? Pick something else, FCS. If you must do America, how about the time before white men?

Meh.

Ubisoft: epitomising blandness since AC3. Even EA does better than this.

There hasn't been a single open-world game set in America during that period, I'm certainly intrigued. His ancestors certainly got around though... Arabic, French, Italian and now American?

Ezio still had much to show us after AC2 and he's part of the reason why AC as a series has taken off. It wasn't rehashed any more than a game like Mass Effect or Batman has been. Sure revelations took some steps in the wrong direction but that part's over now and they knew it was time to move on.

Really? You act like this is the WWII setting all over again. It really isn't that common in games and it's I can't think of any movies in the past couple years that have been set in this period.

Personally I wonder about this setting. It's certainly a fan favorite but how is it going to compare to Rome or any other city covered. I'm no expert on American architecture and the history off it but how big can these cities be? I feel like there would be a lot less in the way of enormous buildings to climb and verticality(Not a word I think) is a big part of the series. I'm sure they could find some way to pull it off but after the boring city of Constantinople I worry a little.

I am also curious. AC thrives off of its parkour movement and scaling huge buildings.

What annoyed me about Revelations and Brotherhood the most, were the quest structure. I liked how in AC 1 and 2, you would go on one solid mission. It would take an hour, but you'd go through the whole way. Ubisoft then (poorly) tried to implement a more broken down series of mini quests, leading up to the final assassination. I just got bored through most of them.

I really like the sound of this setting, very intrigued as to how they'll pull it all off.
