Best Melee Race?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 11:30 pm

Redguards are known to be the best warriors in Tamriel. Orcs might be stronger though, since I think their shortcomings in war are probably due to their savage and tribal behavior. They don't have the military strategy to win a war, or keep Orsinium from being sacked.

Imperials are actually pretty weak at fighting, but conquered everyone simply because they're the best strategists.
As I have understood it the Nords were vital in creating the Third Empire, though the Imperials have proven to have very good and more disciplined armies as a whole.

I does not really matter as you level you can make any race what they want to be: I also find it fun to break the traditional mold of what a character race is and make like say an Orsimer mage.
Two good fighting choice are Redguard for the good racial ability. The Bretons are also a good choice for their natural born magic resistance if that helps.

Yeah I suppose the orcs are pretty tough but they have no chance against the Rohirrim (aka Nords).

Orcs are better melee fighter in both lore and game.

Orcs definitely have the right attirubtes to be great warriors. When i first looked at the racial abilities of orcs, i thought "Theres no magic resist anymore? nothing but a single daily power? that svcks!". But boy was i wrong. Berserk can pretty much get you through any tight spot you may come across.

I think an unlikely but great character for melee combat are the argonians. Versatile starting attributes, water breathing is actually useful this time around, and the Hist Skin power is also very helpful.

Orc reporting in.. I have had a few previous characters but the orcs are definitely my favorite race to date for melee. Here's why:
1. Look at em, they're bad as*.
2. Look at their woman, some they shave their heads and that is bad as*.
3. Orcs are so good at crafting weapons and armor, the orc that just killed you back there prolly made that armor AND weapon himself.
4. They're bigger than the average man = intimidation.
5. Growing up in an orc stronghold is a lifelong bad as* training camp.
6. A dragon that wanders into an orc stronghold would be called a p*ssy and eaten for lunch.
7. They kill their own chief to replace him instead of voting for a new one.
8. Their homeland is in the mountains where they worship Malacath (one BA dude) and kill shi* for fun.
9. All four strongholds in Skyrim are in strategic corners of the map ready to eliminate the inferior Nords... and everyone else.
10. You're probably mad right now you didn't make an orc.
11. Orcs don't run from a battle.
12. Orcs are the finest troops in all of NIRN.

Yup, Orcs are pretty BA... how's your race going for ya?

Arguements against Orcs
1. They look good, but are ugly
2. Shaved head on a woman looks too masculine
3. Orcs don't kill me, so I don't care if he made that weapon and armor himself, because I just took it and sold it.
4. My Nord is only an inch or two shorter and he makes Orcs run like hell if they come upon him. Battle Cry is equally as effective
5. The strongholds are not Orc bootcamp stations. Only those that have a chance to become chief compete in combat and some don't even do it then.
6. A Blood dragon recently landed in Largushbur as I was finishing Malacath's quest. He ate, Gularzob, Ugor, and Lob and was only brought down by the giant outside of the walls when I prevented it from flying away. Orcs got effed up.
7. Nords fight against each other to establish dominance, but they are far more civilized now and do it in the name of honor now.
8. They live in the mountains and have destroyed their own kingdom dozens of times. They have no country of their own and Malacath was eaten by a Dunmer-Daedra (Boethiah)
9. They live in strongholds because they would get a William Wallace claymore shoved up their asses if they encroached on true Nord territory. They stay in strongholds for cultural and physical protection.
10. I'm quite proud of my Nord, who skins Orcs and curb stomps them into the Throat of the World if they cross him.
11. I stated above that Orcs run from me every time they attack me and I own their ass.
12. Orcs have never conquered mroe than themselves, while a Nord conquered Tamriel and became a Divine.

Arguements for Nords
1. Nords have never been conquered, lived in a frozen waste, and populated all of Tamriel with branches from their race.
2. They were attacked by the Falmer and crushed them into the snow.
3. Nords are the vanguard to every human army in Tamriel
4. Resistance to hypothermia
5. They defeated DRAGONS in a war and were the first beings to produce a Thu'um (aside from dragons)
6. Tiber Septim. That is all that needs to be said there
7. Nords are the most populous race in Tamriel due to their skill at procreating

Gameplay-wise, Bretons make the best warriors, in my opinion. Any race can become god-like with a weapon but the warrior's Achilles Heel is always their weakness to magic attacks. Breton's magic resistance is the perfect ability for a warrior.

I agree, but I feel wrong playing a short, pointed faced guy. Even though I made a great looking one a while back, I couldn't connect with him because I can only play Nord or Dunmer

With regards to Osmer v's Redguard...

Orsmer armed with two-handed in full Orcish armor (their own racial armor) V's Redguards armed with one-handed & shield in Dwarven armor (obviously made from Dwemer scrap metal parts which are found at most in Hammerfell so kinda makes sense). One has Berserker Rage and the other with Adrenaline Rush. My guess it would be a relatively even match. Natural enemies.
