Black Reach - Unrealized potential

I did like Black Reach right up until the point where I had to search for nirnroot, I got very bored trying to find the last one or two

There are a couple of buildings that look odd when you walk into them, they just finish with a weird looking wall. - i was hoping they would be part of a future DLC. Not likely though.
agreed and i looked at the mini map and the place is suppose to continue but the wall blocks it off.

all I wanted to find was a giant dwemer robot in the middle citadel and have an epic battle like something out of God of war (though I only saw my friend playing it and fighting a massive sea monster thingy) also it needed more quests related to falmer AND dwemer lore and maybe a secret project they were working on :P (the dwemer I mean) like an new god or some crazy dimensional temporal flux device that uses a Sheagorath brain cell as a power source!!! I mean anything ....

Skyrim is a great game but it needed MORE quests and stories (well u can never get enough)

East of Riften, head towards black briar lodge or their manor I think it is. Anyway f ollow the main road, you need to look on the map carefully for a gap in the mountains that make up Skyrims border. The road runs down between either side of this gap in the mountain until it stops in front of an archway that you're not allowed to pass. If you climb up on the surrounding mountains you can see Red Mountain in the distance. It's as if that archway is a gate to MorrowWind that we're not allowed to pass!
Yep, you need to
Spoiler
Hit the globe looking chandelier with unrelenting force shout and it calls him. But like I said, I'm pretty sure he's a little harder then a normal ancient dragon.
Just added two things on my to-do list.

Have you played morrowind's main storyline? You pretty much nailed exactly what the dwemer are working on in red mountain, their main headquarters.

yes morrowind did dig deep into the dwemer mystery, infact if you had GOTY edition in Mournhold you even got to meet and speak with a dwemer ghost

There's way more than just 30 of them in blackreach. Ask any of the dwemer guardian/centurion dudes, it's reaaallly easy to get their full attention......................... ;-)

I think blackreach is probably one of the coolest dungeons around. I personally have a negative association with it as on my first playthrought Lydia died in there, and later on J'zargo too. ;(

Ya gotta be reeeeaaaallll careful with yoru followers when in Falmer areas. The Falmer simply do not stop until their enemies are chopped meat.
Tell your followers to wait well behind, far enough so that they don't join in any fights. When you've cleared an area, retrieve the follower and proceed, then when you encounter more falmer vermin, back off, leave your follower, clean out the area, etc......

This is true for any enemy in the game. Honestly, I find draugr deathlords more difficult than most Falmer...more likely to cut my follower down to that last sliver of health, too.

I've taken Erik into several Falmer dungeons at this point. I swear he does better in them than I do.

Made me think of the Wizard of Oz :P

It did feel empty, I was expecting an underground metropolis and thriving Falmer and still hope Beth decide to flesh it out to it's full potential. There are a few Dwemer ruins that could be expanded inside I reckon and there's always room for more Falmer. There's so much bland, featureless dirt expanses I wish were filled with the similar attention to detail as the surface, for instance Whiterun's wide open plains are vast but also wonderfully detailed. Could be more unique ingredients and even unique Falmer too.

Just so much potential down there !

I find the Sanguine Rose comes in handy in Dwemer ruins ... or for that matter, anywhere else.

I would've loved an actual city to be in the game. They just felt like a fortified village, if you played M&B WB which got compared to Oblivion they had a [censored] city. The only thing I would call a town is Solitude, besides a falmer city, also am I the only one who got LOTR feeling in this place, like Moria?

Tragic, just one of many places purpose built for one quest and thats all.

I suppose with a project as massive as Skyrim all the "love" a dev wants to put into an area gets time managed away!

I don't know if it was built with just one quest in mind, but it seems likely that Bethesda had reasons for not fully developing this world within a world. I guess its a continuation of whatever impacted the content of Skyrim in general. It's a great looking game, and interesting to play, but a bit thin in creating a sense of continuity, and I guess, meaningfullness. One could speculate there might have been more to do here , but it got axed as it involved mostly random generated quests, which if so, was a good move. Fetch quests would have ruined the mystique of the place. Better to keep us wondering, whats it all mean?

Same here. My fighter has carried that thing with him since he got it. It has gotten him out of trouble too many times. I'll have to get it in my mage build now. No harm in having one additional Daedra fighting with you in tight situations.

It would've svcked if I had to chop through hordes of Falmer, honestly if I can choose to hack through three enemies or four enemies, I'll take three and enjoy the view. It could've had more giants though, unique mammoths, an a story for the Falmer thralls.

A shamefully overpowered artifact, on par with ebony mail but I agree it's excellent! :D

Some of these are actually links to upper world dwemer ruins, which haven't been activated with your orb yet. Once activated these walls drop down forming a stairwell up.... Discovered this with Mynzchaleft recently...

Agree though, DLC for BlackReach would be nice! Think most would want something entirely new for a location tho

Ah, thanks.

I hope there will be more quests related to Blackreach in the future because it's just a waste to leave it empty.
Pretty much like that enormous landmass to the south east of Skyrim that's supposed to be morrowwind. Why put it there if it's useless? It's like half the size of Skyrim anyhow and the talk of it being there simply for scenery purposes is ridiculous as you have to spend a good 20 minutes climbing up mountains just to get a peak of Red Mountain!
WHOA, Whoa, whoa,
Where can you get a peak of red mountain? Please be specific.

Just wondering if anyone else found this cavernous space a little on the empty side? So many beautiful visuals, anchored by the intriguing Silent City, which seemed more like a city than anything above ground. But only a few remnants of Falmer, a few spiders and frost trolls, one lonely giant, inhabiiting it. A few more wisp mother enemies spawned randomly wouldn't have hurt either, they fit in better here than other enemies.

One elderscroll, 30 crimson nirnroots, and thats all the questlines? Would like to know what the Falmer followers in rags were all about at least... A place this mysterious needs a good mystery questline within it. Something Dwemerian obviously

Hi there Rexx Raysurr! Hope your Sunday is the kickstarter of a great week.

Fully agree. Black Reach promises so much, yet delivers too little. The music is wondeful, the atmosphere truly amazing, and yet the lack of unique architecture, fauna and flora lacklusters the whole experience. Plus, as you mentioned, there isn't a terrible lot to do once you're threre. It's a bit disheartening, really. Anyway, kudos to the designers for creating such a wonderful atmosphere out of rehashed components. Also, Jeremy Soule's music is simply mesmerizing.
