Blackreach did it for me

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 9:34 pm

When I saw blackreach I immediately yearned for the drow-centric rpg I have wanted since Salvatore first released the dark elf books.

And not the neverwinter nights xpac, a true dark atmospheric game!

First time I entered Blackreach, my first thought was...this place is a dungeon and its bigger then the capital of Skyrim....so sad.

I hate that place with a passion, probably because it smells like Falmer feces and aspercream. :P

Wow.... your imagination hands you odors too? I thought I was the only person in the world that had that happen.... Mine gave me odor-memories of southern Illinois Mound-Builder burial cysts underground (which my parents took me to when I was about 4.... so like 60 years ago, and I STILL remember it....)

I went down there again for the first time in months and saw a giant. A giant!

Blackreach is always interesting.

don't have to complete the main quest. you just need to get to the part where you first talk to Paarthurnax.

I know. But after completing the main quest and seeing it's rather saddening and uplifting ending at the same time, and climbing to the Throat of the World as snow billows all around you to look down on all of the world... it is quite nice to see that.

Blackreach is an awesome place, and when I first saw it, I thought it was all for show. I had to lumber through there because I was >400 pounds over my current carry limit.

Blackreach was pretty intimidating for me and unfortunately I left as soon as I could because the chaurus were extremely difficult at the low level I was down there.

On my new sword and board imperial I'm going to explore much, much more down there.

I only have been in Blackreach briefly, but felt amazed... totally amazed. I found it scary to be honest. Didn't feel comfortable at all and I tried avoiding those chaurus-beasts to all costs ;) After locating the elder scroll I got out as soon as possible. With my second character, I am about to do that part of the MQ again. Will spend more time there now, it's worth it.

Other places in the game that impress me are Labyrinthian, and some ruins/temples have an unusual design. I forget about names, but one in the southwest (southwest from Falkreath if I am correct) gave me the feeling I was in an Indiana Jones/Tombraider-setting. Really cool.

The game does have some memorable outside locations if you have an eye for it. Wandering in thick snow west from Winterhold is very special, if you barely can see a thing and walk alone between walls of ice and snow.

Z'marsh is one of my fav zones in WoW. I don't have the issue with it that I do with Blackreach because the lighting is better....

I'm probably one of the very few people around who has sunk about 200+ hours into this game without ever having even seen Blackreach. Well, I finally decided to start doing the MQ, and the moment I set foot into Blackreach, that sense of wonder and amazement hit me in the face like a brick. That one underground city is worth buying the game for.

Reminded me of a cross between Pandora and Menzoberranzan. I must have spent an hour and half just walking around that city killing Falmer and Dwemer machines and even a giant. I didn't even know the trick with the giant orange orb until I read the wiki page for Blackreach. Needless to say, I went back to Blackreach just for that.

Is there ANYTHING else like that in this game that I have yet to discover? Maybe not in look and style, but is there another place with that large of a scale and equally as mesmerizing?

656 hrs in the game and haven't seen it.

There are at least two pickaxes in Blackreach. At the opposite end from Sinderion's bones up on a ledge in the Falmer camp by the water's edge.

Hmmm... no, I can't say that I have. Do you have a possible location in the UESP wiki that I could refer to? I'm suddenly interested in looking at it now.

Wiki Link -

http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Sightless_Pit

It has lots and lots of Falmer and is not for a low level character. I visited it when my level was in the teens and couldn't clear it, and unlike most of the caves in Skyrim, once you enter it the only way out is to fight your way through the whole thing. I had to reload a save prior to entering.

I haven't been back to it yet, but I'll probably do it the next time I'm in the Winterhold area.

The Sightless Pit is actually all but on your way up to Azura's shrine. In fact.... if you're like my latest klutz of a toon.... a khajiit at that! - you'll literally fall into it.

It was amazing in a WTF way, but I also find it oppressive down there and don't spend more time than I have to. I still continue to be stupefied when I do. It really makes you wonder what those Dwemer were up to.

There's this yellow globe thing that reminds me of the Eye of Magnus.

The first time I saw Blackreach, I was amazed. I loved the ceiling with all the little lights.
What about the quest for the Gildergreen tree? The oasis type cavern is pretty cool.

Which exit did you leave by? If you left by one of the main elevators (three of them, Alftand is one, not sure of the others since I'm not in game, but likely you can look them up on the wiki if it's not dark today) then you should be able to fast-travel to that map-marker.

I have yet to be there in the MQ. However, I did venture into the sighless pit(I believe that's the name) and after a bit in the cave you venture into a dwemer ruin and I happened to walk into an area which I thought was a whole new town(it wasn't but still) the ceiling of the place looked like 10 thousand stars in the sky... It was just a beautiful sight and to know the falmer live there Is just a waste.

I know the place is southwest of winter hold near azura's star. Anyone been?

It's Irkngthand, you get there for one of the latter Thieves Guild quests. Yes the ceiling looks nice.
I haven't been to Blackreach yet, looking forward to it though.
The sights on Dragon's Bridge are sweet too to be honest, with the waterfall and that insanely good looking bridge in front of it and all that...

Nevermind it is the tower of mzark right below the hall of the vigilant its almost directly below dawnstar mabe someone can use this to get to the elder scroll and not go thru all of the places including blackreach. I looked up all the entrances and exits and looked at pics to figure out the location i exited by then googled the map location
