Boone is way overpowered

I think Veronica is OP because she just walks up to a Deathclaw, says "For the Brotherhood!" and just taps him on the shoulder causing his death.

I'm good at sniping in this game, and I can outsnipe Boone most of the time. Which makes for some fun competition. And, it's awesome to watch a crowd of enemies get destroyed before they can react.

Yeah he pretty much one-shots everything in the head. (Except giant rad scorpions, no one can one-shot those in the head)

I can.
Anti Mat rifle with hand loaded ammo FTW!

Give Boone a sniper rifle and he can one shot deathclaws, which I think are really a lot harder than they were in FO3. Give him the antimaterial rifle and there is nothing that he can't kill.

This.

The thing with Boone is this.
He is a SUPPORT character, I have noticed he does not do so well against fast moving targets, or indoors unless you give him something besides the rifle he always has, or a sniper.
Normally I kill things before he even takes a shot.
He is VERY good at killing things far away.
He is VERY bad against things that are not so far away.

Cass is the exact opposite.

Boone and Cass are for two completely types of plays. Boone is good for anything/anyone but best for people who are weaker in combat. Like Cass is a good combat person.

A person could use Raul, along with built to destroy and negate the negatives of that and come out on the good side.

Its all in what you choose. I think they are all balanced, and can all be used at any time. but with more focused builds each follower gains more use.

Lilly would make a great companion to a melee brawler.
Raul is the best for some one who wants to maximize ranged damage while keeping weapon repairs down.
Arcade is good for those who do not wish to add points to medical or survival
Boone is good for people who need some muscle, so is Lilly. Tow different kinds of muscle.
Cass is like the middle of the road "meh" choice.

ED-E is good for seeing bad guys/things before you normally could
Rex is good for lazy people or those who have a hard time finding things.
Nothing saying you can't use them, no reason not to unless you need some other companions specialty.

A melee brawler would be better off with Lilly, longer stealth from the stealth boys, and shes likely quite handy with a bumper sword.

I have a question for folks who are finding that Boone seems to be ultra-effective: what is the Charisma score of your Courier?

Boone's rifle is not particularly fancy. He is very accurate, but I am surprised by the number of people who are finding him overpowered. I am wondering if Nerve is turning Good Boone into Amazing Boone.

I personally like Cass better then Boone, mostly because I like to snipe things, and having him with me is just redundant.

My boon was weak as... mainly because he bugged up, "Hey attack with ranged" *Weapon vanishes* and he ends up running to attack melee, I had to keep telling him to swap to melee and then back to range so his weapon would reappear

Veronica though... WOW... I think I am inlove

Take every weapon from him that it will allow you to. He will go back to normal.

I agree completely. I have to put it on very hard to make any battles losable.

There is also no radiation in this game. hardcoe isn't hardcoe, and it's buggy as sht. It's a C+ effort on an A++ platform to me.

Playing on normal difficulty on hardcoe mode... Boone literally kills everything before I even have a chance to shoot it 9 times out of 10. I like that he's a cool sniper and all, but I feel like telling him to go away because he makes combat too easy and ruins my fun of killing things. ED-E by contrast is much, much weaker... not sure about any other companions, haven't gotten any.

Anyone agree?

I agree man, i love that he is a elite sniper and takes everyone's head off in like seconds, Yes he deff overpowered tho.

My charisma is 9... intelligence is 9... everything else around 5.

I think what makes him so effective for me is that he always goes for the headshot and usually gets it. If I am moving slowly into an area with enemies he will pick them off before I even get to kill one of them. I am exploring Freeside right now and the thugs come around corners, which makes him less effective. Out in the desert though he just slaughters everything I see.

I'm guessing you think he's "Too Good" because you've loaded your character up with fighting attributes.
My point is each of the companions has a "best" fit. Maybe you don't NEED boone because you've already got combat taken care of.

The thing is your character can't do EVERYTHING so it would be a good idea to pick a role then find a companion who does things you don't have covered already.

So if you tagged medicine/ guns / exposives it would be a good idea to get Raul to help with repairs.

Or if you have a character with low strength get Cass as a companion so you can get the +2 strenght from constantly being drunk off whisky.

Boone is a "best fit" for a character that has stuff like Barter/Speech/ and only 1 weapons tagged.

You're overlapping roles so he seems OP.

You complaining about Boone killing things too good would be like someone whining that they never get to used their maxed out repair skill with Raul.

This! I've only been upping non combat skill's from the get go. Boone is a must for me to survive.

I haven't played hardcoe mode yet, but I don't know if I would want Boone with me.

He might kill some weaker, unarmored targets, but the ones that actually have some meddle to them kick his ass pretty quickly. He would have died 1000 times over if I was in hardcoe.

Boone is the person you want to have around if you plan to put your points into less combat skills. Remember Fallout is a game in which you can go 100% of the game with out killing someone. Sence you can ether talk your way out of it or have an allie do the work for you.

Remember their is a trait you can take at character creation that gives you +10 to all non combat skills and - 10 to all combat skills. This proves to the player that you can use npc and non agreasive skills to deal with most of the combat. You have seen that speech checks are big in this game. So it really all about how you plan to make your characters.

Use compaines that are best support your game style. If your heavy gun combat you might want one that good at carring stuff for you and one that good at talking or being a doctor to help you.

Not sure about Boone havent used him yet, but Veronica is OP also, she litterally 1-2 shots everything asside from Nightkin and such, and takes all the aggro making it too easy to play sometimes. I would have gotten rid of her if it werent for the brotherhood quests i want to finish and that fact that i use her to carry tons of junk

Boone is indeed deadly.

Which is perfect if you want to play a non-fighting character. My current character has Speech, Science and Barter tagged, putting skills in medicine and lockpick besides, with minor investment in energy weapons (doing surprisingly well, thanks for all those skill checks Obsidian). Basically, he cannot fight. But he is a damned wealthy merchant/scientist/doctor, and Boone is perfect as a bodyguard for him. Especially since I discovered that for some reason Boone can equip NCR Ranger Combat Armor, unlike any other faction armor. I like to pretend the NCR sent a ranger escort for the wealthy and influential Dr. Walter.

In short, Boone has a place and fills it well.

I repeat: I do not have a combat-focused character. Yes I have some points in the Guns skill and carry weapons, but you have to, the idea of beating the two newer Fallout games without combat is ridiculous (and was already a stretch in Fallout 2). I understand that some companions are built to supplement combat-weak characters.

But he's still overpowered. :disguise:

I kicked Boone out of my weakling scientist characters group for the ultra-quick kill reasoning... Even with a wimp of a combat character, it's not very fun to just watch all the enemies drop before you can even participate in the action.

Boon is way too damn strong. I'm not sure I want to keep him around, but I like using him as a mule for my gear. I guess I'll put up with him until I find someone else; he's kinda ruining the thrill of a close fight whenever I run into enemies.
