Boone is way overpowered

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:47 am

Playing on normal difficulty on hardcoe mode... Boone literally kills everything before I even have a chance to shoot it 9 times out of 10. I like that he's a cool sniper and all, but I feel like telling him to go away because he makes combat too easy and ruins my fun of killing things. ED-E by contrast is much, much weaker... not sure about any other companions, haven't gotten any.

Anyone agree?

He didn't seen too OP in Repconn (my first outing with him) but holy hell when I went back to the prison (I waited to do it because it wasn't along my travel plans then) he was like a one man death squad. I would enter a building and before I knew what was up he'd shoot one dude and also take out the guy behind him.

I may set him to aggressive and see the destruction he causes.

Yeah he pretty much one-shots everything in the head. (Except giant rad scorpions, no one can one-shot those in the head)

Well, then get a different companion.

I think boone is SUPPOSED to be a dead eye killer. Hes the type of companion you want if you're realtively weak in combat.

The opposite is true for someone like arcade. If you have him as a companion you'll get boosts to health which allow your character to specialize in combat.

its a numbers game really. Boone can not handle vast amounts of enemies, especially Legion troops.

Good god that was a blood bath, soo many chainsaws.

That's like saying it would be okay to have a super gun that kills everything in the game with one hit lying right next to you when the game starts and saying "hey you don't have to pick it up."

And they let you leave the room without picking it up. If he's too good don't use him, simple as that. It's stupid and hypocritical to complain about how good he is and than use him.

I don't use the AMR constantly cause it's super overkill on some things. I get so tired of people complaining about stuff that is 100% optional.

I have ED-E and Cass in my party. They're pretty balanced if you ask me.

Gotta agree, but the thing is, Boone is designed for the teenage FPS super-badass sniper-lovin' crowd, so it's no wonder he kills everything in one hit, before you even get a chance to see 'em.

That said, I used him to blast my way through Black Mountain, and subsequently ditched him for the ever-loveable, snarky Raul. :D

Give Boone a sniper rifle and he can one shot deathclaws, which I think are really a lot harder than they were in FO3. Give him the antimaterial rifle and there is nothing that he can't kill.

I'm guessing you think he's "Too Good" because you've loaded your character up with fighting attributes.
My point is each of the companions has a "best" fit. Maybe you don't NEED boone because you've already got combat taken care of.

The thing is your character can't do EVERYTHING so it would be a good idea to pick a role then find a companion who does things you don't have covered already.

So if you tagged medicine/ guns / exposives it would be a good idea to get Raul to help with repairs.

Or if you have a character with low strength get Cass as a companion so you can get the +2 strenght from constantly being drunk off whisky.

Boone is a "best fit" for a character that has stuff like Barter/Speech/ and only 1 weapons tagged.

You're overlapping roles so he seems OP.

You complaining about Boone killing things too good would be like someone whining that they never get to used their maxed out repair skill with Raul.

I play on Very Hard difficulty, and when I first got him he seemed pretty badass, headshotting things I wouldn't even notice, but he's pretty much on par with me against tougher opponents. He does seem oddly powerful though for what is likely your first companion.

Boone is really worthless to me right now because his sniper rifle automatically goes into my inventory(witch you cant give back or use yourself) and when ever i do have him in the party he always tries to talk to me and its soooo annoying. The one main flaw with the game is that its filled to the rim with bugs and glitches

I got Boone, fast traveled somewhere, golden gecko (literally 4 feet from him) mauls him to death, I pulled my weapon and didn't get more than 3-4 shots off (pistol, forget which one) before he died.
hardcoe mode :'(

Boone was doing great for me (on hardcoe mode) killing molerats, few gang members etc... as soon as we got attacked by a family of Cazadors.. Boone was dead,Rex was dead and i would of died if it were not for the 54 Stimpaks i had(real easy to get money in this game.)

And since i make it a personal rule of mine not to reload unless i die (obviously) Boone is now in a better place looking after Rex i hope.

I personally like him, yeah.. he's a bit over powered if you're not in hardcoe mode, but for my roleplaying aspect he fits my character perfect.

Overall i like him.

When I was doing the Come Fly With Me quest, I barely touched any enemies. I think the only
Spoiler
nightkin I personally killed was Davidson.

He really complements my character considering that I lean more towards close combat and intelligence/charisma skills. That, and I melt every time I hear him speak. Even if Boone was completely useless I'd still have him follow me. Just to occasionally hear James Marsden's voice.

I wasn't even going to side against the Legion until I realised Boone shot them on sight. But, whatever. He's cute in a beret. I'll play nice with NCR if it makes him happy.

To get back on-topic: ED-E is fairly weak so it balances out for me.

1) I'm already in hardcoe mode.

2) I'm not combat focused, I'm mainly about speech and repair and carry a shotgun and 10mm pistol. The point is he kills everything before there is even a fight.

3) Yes, I don't have to use him. I know that. The point is having a very overpowered companion throws off game balance.

Maybe he is weaker later in the game, but I got him pretty early on.

Yep, I agree. Novac is usually... what, the third place you find after Primm and Nipton, not including detours? The quest before getting him is extremely easy and he's competent enough even without his hunting rifle/a sniper rifle. Maybe he's meant to be? I hear he's pretty vulnerable against any really fast enemies. Wait and see?

Exactly, you can get him insanely early and he just kills everything. The speech check wasn't even that high as I recall, like 40 or something?
