It's a boy!

Post » Wed Jul 24, 2013 7:30 pm

So, Kate Middleton and Prince William now have a baby boy, a yet-unnamed Prince who is third in line for the throne of Great Britain.

Yes, the coverage was brought by hundreds of journalists who camped outside the hospital for days awaiting the news. The good thing was, however, the turf war that nearly broke out between BBC, Sky News and ITV News over who would ask the first question. (I love live events because they can't hide this stuff) However, they sorted out the dispute and went on their merry way.

Now, the most talked-about topic now is the name of the boy. I reckon it will be either George or Arthur. I want a King Arthur...

Anyways, what do you lot think of this?

He's been losing hair for years now.

He did say (about his baby) "He has more hair than me, thank God."

I expect it to be some name that somehow resembles William's late mother's name. Derek or something.

Not a fan of the sport of Royal Watching, or of the hordes of people who obsess over it. A brief note on the news about the birth is proper. Hours long news vigils outside the hospital are ridiculous.

I'm not UK-ish, so these aren't my Royals. Basically, I don't care.

Personally, I'm just embarrassed to see how many Americans are actually excited about this. (This is aimed more at my friends and family, obviously I realize not everyone on these forums is from the USA).

You're more interested in the Kardashians, then.

I know what you mean, though. I don't understand peoples' obsession with the lives of celebrities.

This is one of the reasons I am so happy to be using and antenna and not having cable. I have never seen any of the shows, and never will. I don't understand their fans any more than I understand Royal chasers.

Prince dike. Yep, solid. :D

But seriously, I think Richard is an awesome name. Who ever came up with the nickname dike, anyway?

as a Canadian Citizen (and as we are still a Constitutional Monarchy, with the Royal Family as our head of state), with a strong (Semi-Noble) British Ancestry I feel it is my duty to say..

Long Live our Future King! Long Live House Windsor!

Aw, cute! I'm not obsessed with the royals but I always thought it was cool that we still had a shadow of that. Plus, a lot of people feel a connection to the Duchess of Cambridge because she started out as a normal, everyday girl (albeit quite rich) and ended up dating a prince in college. Sounds like a movie, haha. It's fun to think about what we'd do if we suddenly had to be groomed for royalty, even if on a ceremonious level.

Although I'm not a fan of really common names (mainly just from not wanting my kids to be the fifth Katie or Daniel in the class; not from any dislike of the names themselves [I guess luckily, my name is normal but not that common nowadays. Only old ladies share my name or people my age have it as a middle name, haha; but I never had anyone else in a class or group with my name except for once at camp]), I am glad that they have that sort of expected bound to produce a common name so that we don't end up with some crap like North West. Richard, Harold, William, etc. are miles ahead of North.

I think Richard would be a good name not only Richard the Forth would be a cool title but England did just unearth Richard the Third's remains in a million to 1 odds.

....Who cares? "Royalty" doesn't mean a damn thing in our world at this point, unless you're a gullible moron.

Any news on the space front? How about the medicine front? Maybe the finding-a-new-energy-source-that-doesn't-svck front? I know there are things constantly in development, so why are people not focusing on them instead of this garbage?

My blood boils and I clench my fists in rage whenever I think about North West. What the hell is that?! :flame:

But yeah, Richard IV. That'll be cool. :D I still expect Daniel or whatever the male equivalent of Diana is. Did I get that name right? My mind messes up everything. -.-

Wow, that's pretty disrespectful to Britain, you know...

The Royal Family is an integral part of British culture, that's why people care. Especially because the English government is that stupid and greedy, people in the UK need someone to look up to. The Royal Family gives people a role model, a reminder of the glory that Britain used to have.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with not caring, but stating it in the way you did is just rude.

People just posting 'Don't care.'

If you're not going to make a post that can contribute to the conversation, don't post. If you don't care, feel free to give RESPECTABLE reasons that lend to the discussion.

Otherwise, it's just spam.
