The game has gone from being stable to being unstable for me since this last patch. Running AMD Phenom II, 6Gb RAM, ATI HD Radeon 5770, Windows 7 64-bit. Will post DXDiag only if required. In any case I often get crashes now, seemingly random in fashion although some places seem to be more susceptible than others. I've tried verifying the files and it keeps finding one corrupt file which is again corrupt after the next crash. Verifying the files has lowered the frequency of the crashes somewhat, but not removed them. A little disappointing after the game being so stable for me before the last patch. I did also update my ATI drivers last night so not sure if that has helped as well.

In any case I'm more concerned about the number of bugs I've noticed in various missions while playing the game, especially towards the latter stages of the game. Most I've managed to work my way around eg. your companion Cass' quest versus Crimson Caravan -- the mission line got stuck for me, probably because I'd already taken out the Van whatever-they-were-called in Freeside for the Brotherhood of Steel. So when I discovered the second lot of evidence, Cass didnt respond and I got no link to the next part. Eventually stumbled upon the Ranger in the camp where you first meet Cass and gave it to him thereby finishing it, but it was a total fluke. Cass kept indicating the whole time that I should have let her be with me with I took down the Van whatevers.

However currently the mission that is causing me the most headaches is one involving the Omertas, in particular Cachino. Ever since I first talked to him, he's been standing at one of the elevator entrances on the suite floor and hasn't moved an inch since then. I'm pretty certain he isn't meant to be there. The problem is when I finally get to the mission where we are meant to meet the two bosses of the Omerta's gang for a showdown, Cachino does basically says 'Lets go' and then does nothing and the actual showdown doesn't trigger. From then on if you try to talk to him he just says he can't talk now, or something along those lines. I'm guessing anyone who hasn't had Cachino appear to get stuck somewhere hasn't had this problem. I'm currently working on getting Joanne the hoker out of the club to meet with her boyfriend, an ex-Omerta. Am wondering if that needs to be done before the final mission with Cachino, but would be surprised if that is the case.

One bug that I think has been mentioned that I'd like to doubly confirm is that with certain clubs on the strip when you enter/or exit them (not quite sure when exactly it happens as I can't find where they actually store your gear when inside the club), certain weapons have disappeared randomly. The one that seems to be most consistent is the experimental named plasma rifle that IIRC comes from Repconn Headquarters. I gave Boone that and every time I exit The Tops (I think it was), it wouldn't reappear in his inventory. In any case I highly recommend leaving your companions outside whenever you visit one of the casinos.

Speaking of which I've had various oddities happen with companions, not equipment, whenever visiting The Fort -- the place where the head of the Legion sits. I've had Rex disappear and not been able to find him after coming out of that tent.

Also in The Fort there is a little slave girl who has had her teddy bear stolen by a guy who trains the dogs. For some reason after I fought the guys dogs in the arena and he gave me the bear, she was nowhere to be found when I went back to her enclosure. She hasn't been there since. So that's another mission I can't complete. :)

While for me New Vegas is one of the best Fallout games ever made (I'm a big fan of the original 2 games and not such a big fan of Fallout 3 which was too easy and felt more like Left4Dead in too many places) I feel that they've somewhat rushed the release of the game and it's not all it could be as many of the later missions lack polish or don't work 100% properly. In any case I'm planning to play through again and this time take notes on where and what bugs I find with missions, just hope they already know all of them and will fix them in an upcoming patch before I get too far. :)

game still freezing up randomly also frequently freezes up while in vats !!! ...so how many months till the pc gets a real patch ??? I have had no problems like this with any other of the recently released pc games I own or with fallout 3 !!

Random menu selection bug which couldn't really be demonstrated via screen capture.

Under the data button: quests, misc, and radio wouldn't allow me to select anything. The mouse cursor just floated over the text w/o giving a selection box or allowing selection. Had to relaunch every time to get it to work.

That's after a thorough FNV/Steam uninstall followed by a a defrag, reboot, and full clean install. I'm also crashing more than ever. *shrug* Mostly when I enter a zone (new and old) and start moving forward, it'll CTD.

I guess I should balance out this negativity w/ at least one positive observation: the grass is no longer flying in Freeside. Small victories! :celebration:

I never had the hoverguns bug before I did the recent re-install. I also saw a hoverrebarclub but the screen capture didn't take. Air typing has been around since the beginning, though. The Centaurs spawning from within the hollowed out rock in Hidden Valley started after the 1.2.0.314 patch and has happened three times - once before the reinstall, twice after.

But look: no flying grass in Freeside!! :twirl:

I know the cateye bug existed for some players pre-patch, but I never experienced it before now.

Nuka-Cola Quartz will give the cateye effect.

So how does it help to know this?

Nuka-Cola Quartz is a food item (ingestible) which the Player can use and, more importantly, which any NPC can use.

If any NPC finds a Nuka-Cola which is marked so that the NPC can take the item and that NPC happens to be hungry or thirsty and uses that Nuka-Cola then the Player will experience the cateye effect.

The problem is that the cateye effect is apparently a global effect rather than only a Player effect. Any NPC using a Nuka-Cola Quartz will cause that global cateye effect.

Apparently, NPCs will not use a Cateye Chem which would cause the same effect.

Here's a few bugs I came across with the new patch;

-Mick and Ralph's no longer sell items after causing a mixed reaction event with your reputation with Freeside. This is after you've been told you'll be given a discount for making waves. On initiating the speech line to see what's for sale it does nothing but return to the main speech menu. This was after completing the Gomorrah quest for Mr.House.

-BoS. If you wipe out all the BoS but do not destroy the bunker, returning after some time they will have all respawned. This was during Mr.House's quest. The quest is completed after killing all BoS without activating the self destruct.

-Yes man also respawns after some time if you kill him. Not sure if that's intended.

-Contreas dialogue still bugged, after trading his speech line hangs. Not a big issue.

-One of the three freeside thugs in the alley (which has one of them draw in the player by waving for their attention) cannot be killed, as if all shots are blocked. He remains leaning up against the wall indefinitely with no reaction.

-Flamethrower when switching weapons is bugged. Had an upgraded flamethrower, when switching to my laser rifle the fuel tank would remain. Occasionally when equipping the flamethrower it's holstering position was broken as the weapon would remain in sight matching the angle of the player's arm and generally looking silly.

-Plasma rifle type weapons seem to hang occasionally when switching in and out of sighted mode.

-When first loading the point of no return event, Ed-E does not accompany the player. After reloading the event it works.

-Novac. If you kill the Nightkin which is attacking the Brahmin before it actually attacks the Brahmin, the quest cannot be completed.

-The ever persistent bug of enemies getting stuck in things was very consistent in this play through with the new patch. It was almost guaranteed.

-Boomers. The end of Jack's love quest can be interrupted, when the girl is first meeting Jack,Loyal can interrupt the sequence by saying hello to Jack. Jack then returns to his idle state and walks off whilst the woman continues talking to nobody. I stood in for ungrateful Jack :)

This is not a bug. It is intended (you can talk to him to see why he isn't dead) so that the player cannot completely lock themselves out of any chance of ever finishing the game.

-Novac. If you kill the Nightkin which is attacking the Brahmin before it actually attacks the Brahmin, the quest cannot be completed.

This may be a sporadic bug from before the patch. I saw several people reporting it a while back, but was able to complete it with no problem during daylight hours well before the attack on the brahmin.

Huge edit coming along now, I've been waiting awhile to see bugs stack up so I don't need to come back every 30minutes.

Also make SURE you have removed ALL mods.

This is intended and explained in dalog with Yes Man and Victor

This is probably an engine random glitch and not a repeatable bug.
-Novac. If you kill the Nightkin which is attacking the Brahmin before it actually attacks the Brahmin, the quest cannot be completed.

This was not my experience. I did wait until the Nightkin approached the pen. I killed him before he could fire. The quest completed normally.

Bugs:

1. Player weapons seem to move around oddly...alternately rising then lowering, or moving in other odd fashions, sometimes becoming stuck in that position. During this time the players weapon also tends to vanish from the screen and only comes back after entering iron sights mode. Crouching tends to make this problem worse. Mainly happens with rifles such as the varmint rifle, shotgun(s), et al. Have not noticed this on heavy weapons.

2. Players hand and arm position for holding a pistol when not in iron sights is off. FOV is showing way too much arm, especially given the rather low quality arm textures shown in first person mode. It literally feels like the player is planning to jam the gun in the enemies face rather than shoot them.


In first person, do some weapons for you, seem to show the arm, almost like they are holding it, infront of the character, for no apparent reason, when in 3rd person, there arm isn't anywhere near that location?
If so, I have had the same problem. Can't say I've noticed weapons moving oddly, however, you do mention crouch/sneak.

When you are standing, your camera will be at X hieght, when you crouch, your camera lowers, Does your camera get stuck in the 'crouch hieght', when you go back to standing?
I've disabled all my mods and still had it happen, at first I assumed it had to do with inventory weight, but that must have just been a fluke...

Just uninstalled MTUI as thats the only mod I haven't disabled.

Everyone keeps saying companions are supposed to fast travel back home now, but they don't for me. I do use a few mods (most of them are not complex) so I thought maybe that was it, but upon starting a new game with no mods active, they still start walkin' away when I fire them.

Obviously if you don't have this issue, hard to reproduce. And frankly, I don't mind this 'bug' much since I never found it difficult to FT and fire them close to their 'home'. But just thought I'd get around to mentioning it in one of these 'bug threads'.

Revolvers shoot way high in V.A.T.S. It's impossible to do head shots because the bullet flies 10 miles above the enemies head even with a %95 hit chance and 5 feet distance.

Companions missing dialogue. I know it's not exactly game breaking, but annoying at the same time.

Oh and it's the tactic dialogue....and yeah, i know you can change the tactic from the wheel thinggy, but i hate the wheel and they have unique dialogues for the tactic option that you won't hear when using the wheel.

Any info yet on the ED-E getting stuck This has been mentioned before, but no one seems to have an answer. I cannot enter Caeser's tent with the robot stuck on me. nor can I do the dog quest.

If I have 1,000 caps and win a game of Caravan in which both players bet 100 caps, I should have 1,100 caps at the end of the game; instead I'll have 1,200. With the winnings being bugged like this, Caravan is an easy way to get filthy rich in the very early portion of the game. I'm having to skip the card game all together, since it honestly feels like cheating to me.

I guess this may have been reported already, but a quick search did turn up nothing.

If I have to weapons/armor pieces of the same type (e.g. two 10mm pistols) and one of them is at perfect condition, the 100% cond. piece is not showing up in the inventory.
If I then remove the item that does show up (e.g. by dropping it) the 100% item suddenly reappears.
Saw it happen with different items.
