Can we get an offical apology from Bethesda for the UI?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 7:43 pm

Looking at the rage among PC fans of the early hours concerning the absolute rubbish UI, world's useless PC UI ever, an official apology from Bethesda is warranted.
It's the same gamers that provided them with funds that made it possible for them to exist, in a world where these huge free-roaming RPGs were still experimental and not at all mainstream. As a thank you to those fans, they slapped them in the face with this god-awful interface that is terribly off-putting to most, and has certainly stopped me from getting into the game.

Console players, please stay out of this discussion, you won't understand, and it will only polute the thread with really devoted fan comments. I know the game works for you, that is perfectly clear.

So, Bethesda, can you please acknowledge you never actually tried to develop for the PC version as you should? Can we have an apology that you dared release an alpha version just to meet your own mystical deadline? And can we have a commitment to release a PC-oriented UI in the next patch? That is really the only thing that can lead to restoring some of my faith I had in them. As it is now, a crap control method in Skyrim, and a empty tech-demo called RAGE have reduced any confidence that Bethesda will ever release a quality game again. Never will I buy their products again.

how about you submit a bug report to them, or email them.

the developers them selfs do not really spend a lot of time on these forums, infact i was once told by a moderator that they generally only remember that they have a forum about every 2-3 years.

if you actually want them to do something about it, tell them, and not in the forums in order to stir up some kind of fan rage.

waahhhhhhh console port.

Its just a learning curve.

It's similar ish to the way Starcraft 2 is played. You use both the mouse AND the keyboard.

They don't care.

They are too busy working on DLC which will make them more money.

They are happy to let the MOD community fix (finish) the game for free. More time to spend on money making DLC.

Because game companies always issue apologies when one particular feature of their otherwise great game kinda svcks. Please, feel free to get over yourself.

I don't really mind the UI. It's missing a few elements I'd like (like individual armor breakdown with a picture of your character) but otherwise it's simple and rather pretty.

I don't want an apology - I want a patch or a mod to make it better.

I know three guys who play the PC version.

I have asked all three the very direction question of: How Do You Feel About the PC UI?

The answers I got? From all three?

"Love it"

I hated it at first but then i learned to use it and now it's like second nature. It isn't that bad at all. Bethesda owes us no apology if anything you should apologize to them for complaining. Wait for someone to mod the UI.

The UI isn't all that bad, and certainly better than Oblivion's.

The thread made for excellent theater though. Brilliant exercise in hyperbole.

Just be patient and wait for a UI overhaul mod.

Apologize to those of us who read your post and demand you to apologize for being a whiner.

This.

Also, what exactly is wrong with the interface?

You're quite willing to wail about how entitled you are, but you don't provide any insight as to what is wrong with the interface.

Companies generally don't respond to "BAAAAAWWW I'M ENTITLED TO A GOOD GAME, AND X svckS! APOLOGIZE!" threads.

They are looking for feedback, not self important vague complaints.

umm.. Im sorry are you new?

there is way to many bethesda bashing posts. svck it up. And who are you to say that console players arnt fans of the game? last time i checked the price of a console game and a PC game is the same. you dont want console players to pollute your thread but you making this whining thread pollutes the forum. I am a PC gamer and I love the interface. i also bought it on ps3 and I love it as well.

Pffff... UI doesn't bother me one bit. It takes a minute to get used to then its just second nature. Doesn't get in the way of me enjoying this game.

Why would they apologise?

People seem to forget how the buyer-seller relationship works. They make a product and you buy it (or a licence for it in this case). If you don't like the product, you don't buy it. That developers provide continued support is only for the purposes of developing customer loyalty and presenting a good image, they don't owe you an apology for porting what was openly a console game to begin with.

I like the interface, no apology needed. Maybe a few tweaks would be nice, but it's not as though it's not already quite decent. It's hardly consolized as so many claim and certainly nowhere near as bad as other games I played that were clearly console ports.

Unresponsive menus: This is a real problem, but will hopefully be a priority fix.

Badly nested/inefficient menus: Probably won't be fixed by BGS, expect UI mods before long.

Don't expect an apology, they're almost never given by any game company. Its not assumed to be the nature of the business relationship involved.

Even if an apology were expected, this wouldn't be the place to ask for it.

the UI isn't that bad i actually gotten used to it. the few things are bugs i don't like.

Sometimes i can't click something in my inventory instead i have to use my arrow keys, sometimes clicking a item auto kicks me out of inventory. equipping something to left hand or right hand always resets when i switch to my bow and back again.

ex - i want to put my weapon that has soul trap enchant in my left hand because i don't swing that much with it and have my other in my right hand but whenever i switch to my bow then back it switched hands putting the enchanted weapon in my right hand?

things i don't particularly mind but would be nice to have, A character sheet, a back button, more tabs to seperate things, like spell books from books, and potions from poisons.

also how do i know i have a disease?

i assume mods will fix everything eventually.

Enjoy it while you can IMO. When the next gen consoles are released and all computers really have on them for the first few years is the ability to mod you're going to see PC gaming fall even further. PC barely has a voice when compared to the profits made from the console sales so it's only going to go down hill. :X

The UI is AMAZING for consoles btw. ;D

The UI is fine, it took me all of 2 minutes to get used to. It's also a LOT quicker to navigate than Oblivions UI. It's not their job to fix something that isn't broke, you just don't want to take the time to get used to it. User-error does not equal a needed change. Also, WASD, mouse clicking, hotkeys, favorites, and scroll wheel all work beautifully. All in all, the UI is fine, get used to it or wait for mods to "fix" it. As I said, Bethesda has no reason to fix something that is user-error and not a problem with the game.

(PS: I'm on PC and using mouse+keyboard, have had zero problems.)
(PPS: Bethesda DID NOT make Rage, the abomination that is id Software made it, go complain to them.)
