Chaurus'

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:49 am

I see a Chaurus... it's dead before you can count its legs... Btw. what's with the chitin you can collect from them? I thought we might be able to make cool Morrowind Chitin armor from it! Maybe a mod down the road? hehe

I was thinking you used it to improve Falmer Armor and weapons, but I'm not sure.

You can use them to upgrade Falmer gear you can loot.

you do realize this is a world that has everything from giant spiders to dragons and wabbajack. I think insects with 4 legs isn't that out of the ordinary in fantasy terms.

"Insectoid denotes any creature or object that shares a similar body or traits with common earth insects and arachnids."

Chaurus fir this definition. Similar =/= identical.

Actually the game doesn't take place on earth it takes place on Nirn. So any arguement that something in Skyrim is wrong based on earthly facts is illogical. Thats the beauty of a fantasy game. Bethesda can make the world and rules how ever they want because its not earth.

They're like giant earwigs... which don't actually crawl into your ear and eat your brain, so who is the idiot who named them earwigs, huh?! Huh?!

Hate to be blunt, but let's face it...

The game has trolls, dragons, mammoths, wizards, demonic gods, gods, and 8+ sentient, different species.

Sorry, but right now I don't think Bethesda really cares whether a creature has 2, 4, or 216 legs. JUST SAYIN'. Bahaha.

Lev. 11:20-23

All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be regarded as unclean by you. There are, however, some flying insects that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper. But all other flying insects that have four legs you are to regard as unclean.

Praise the lord, for finally we got the right amount of legs on them bugs. Too bad they ain't got no wings on them, but that's sure gonna be in TES 6. Can I get a Hallelujah?

I'm sorry to go on about this but I have just seen another loading-screen which refers to these critters as "insects", plain and simple. Now, as all insects have 6 legs - this being one of the main aspects of insects (that and their exo-skeletons) - I am very much agrieved that these chaurus fellow-me-lads, who proudly sport just 4 legs, are refered to as insects. There. That's it. My last word on this sorry subject.

Don't go around imposing real-world definitions on a fantasy game

Pretty much. This is Skyrim...not earth.

This is anol. Let me compare the definition of Insectoid to "Humanoid".

humanoid (?hju?m??n??d)

— adj
1. like a human being in appearance
— n
2. a being with human rather than anthropoid characteristics
3. (in science fiction) a robot or creature resembling a human being

It resembles an Insect. It's not an insect. It can have 4 legs as you can also have a humanoid with 4 arms and four legs. As long as it resembles the base of it's definition it's fine. It doesn't need to match all characteristics.

well maybe on Tamril the gravity is lighter, thus some bugs evolved 4 "limbs" instead of 6 OR since they are huge 6 legs would be a waste of energy (although spiders have 8 but they are arachnids)

my head hurts :bunny:

This really, 4 or 6 legs, it's the poison I'm worried about. And I hardly ever find cure poison or resist poison potions too. So unfair if you ask me, seeing as there are a lot of resist (insert magic type here) potions.
