All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be regarded as unclean by you. There are, however, some flying insects that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. Praise the lord, for finally we got the right amount of legs on them bugs. Too bad they ain't got no wings on them, but that's sure gonna be in TES 6. Can I get a Hallelujah?

In load screens it says they are insectoids. It says that, I didn't assume they were.

I never see load screens for more than 1 second on my PC...Get a screen cap?

Here we are playing the semantics game (which has, by the way, yielded some genuinely hilarious results), and I'm surprised no one has commented on the pluralization in the post's title.

Chaurus'?
That just looks like a bunch of chaurusesses applying ownership to something; e.g., "The chaurus' silk smoking jackets presented a disarmingly jaunty aesthetic when combined with their sleek velveteen tophats and a vivid chrysanthemum pinned to each of their lapels."

Shouldn't the plural of "chaurus" be "chaurii"? I mean, as long as we're picking nits and all...

No, just because it ends in "us" doesn't mean the plural should end in "i". It's stems from a misperception of Latin grammar; octupus really should be pluralized as octopuses. People have said "octopi" often enough that it's become acceptable, however.

Also, I can't remember if chauruses have 6 legs or not, and I think the loading screen actually says "insect" rather than "insectoids", but regardless, they have too many body sections to be insects anyway, regardless of legs. Insects only have a head, abdomen and thorax.

Also, cuttlefish are a variety of cephalopod like squid and octopuses, but they aren't squid.

You do know you're not on Earth in Skyrim, right? It's Nirn. Creatures can be whatever the devs decide they are. It's fun that way because it's a fantasy world.

Elder scrolls definition of insects is different from our version like how glass wont shatter when you hit a wall of stone with a warhammer made out of it also ebony isnt a wood in this series it is a metal

Glass is also a metal in this game. Read light armor forging

We cant assume everything is like here on earth. Its in a fantasy setting on the planet Nirn.

Fair point. Neither would be incorrect enough to debate over, and both would still be eminently more accurate than chaurus'.
In fact, heretofore and forever in Skyrim, I am taking it one abiguously-justifiable step further and referring to groups of them as "chauropodes". Or a "charoparty".
