CNN special on Anonymous

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:25 am

CNN Presents: Anonymous airs tonight on CNN, I think it looks pretty interesting. Does anyone plan to watch it? We don't get cable in the dorms, so I'm hoping to either try to watch it streaming on CNN Live or hopefully they upload it to the CNN Presents page sometime.

Are they any other good documentaries / specials on Anonymous out there to watch on the internet?

This ought to be good, I'll need to watch. Even for a laugh or two, if anyone finds a link let me know.

Why did this remind me of Hackers? Ah, there's a movie I need to watch again, weird understanding of technology and the special effects aside.

Let me guess, some super serious faced white people will anchor a story that has a few cam/screenshots of some of 'that sites' boards, use the phrase 'anonymous hacker group', call them 'terrorists' or 'malicious', and use scare tactics to make people more fearful whenever they pull another huge public stunt? Yeah, I've seen it enough times before to know it's just buzzwords and etc. If I'm wrong it'd be a breath of fresh air, but, well, news media arent very quick to change their format.

In the preview they interview a member and they same to give a fair, balanced view, they're not criticizing them, they're explaining what they do and what they stand for and who they are, at least that's what it seems like. It seems more like they're fascinated than condemning.

It could all be lies and trickery though. During the preview of Impulse 76, it had us all fooled!

I'd be interested, although the 'interview with an anon' is probably [censored] given the fact that given a public interview sort of, you know, isnt very anonymous, unless he's black screened and voice altered, then sure.

Yeah but that was FOX. CNN tries to be very professional about their news, and of the big U.S. news media corporations, is the least politically biased (at least from what I've seen, and I've seen quite a bit of every news station in the U.S. :P)

That makes me realize that people just blame anything bad that happens to them on the internet on 'Anonymous'

Well, it definitely (from the preview) wasn't as bad as my original thoughts were it would be, but, it missed two very key points:

1. anyone can say they are anonymous, anyone can claim they did something as anonymous

2. anonymous is a political group with hackers that agree with them, not a hacker group (this was slightly hinted at in the end of the preview, but they still labeled it as a hacker group in the title)

I literally closed the tab that video was on once I heard "Hacker's on Steroids"

I doubt I will watch it, but it sounds somewhat interesting.

Am I the only one fascinated by Anonymous? I dunno, just something in me is attracted to the idea of a leaderless group with many faces and many agendas. It's an idea that is very romanticized to me :P

Atleast its CNN instead of that false news company that blow everything out of proportion. Should be interesting even though Anonymous is...weird i'll say proclaiming themselves to fight for the little guy when they hurt it.

When I think of Anonymous I think of pimply-faced neckbeard basemant dwellers angry at the world and lashing out through their computers. A bunch of people who have zero power or influence in real life, but through their computers they feel powerful and influential.

Sorry.

I wouldn't say they have no influence in real life, even though not all of it is positive:

a ton of info about the group anonymous in the link. info ironically submitted by anonymous users. looks accurate to me though since it details both good things the group has done (shutting down an internet peadophile ring) and bad things (d-dos attacks against questionable targets)
