Color mismatch (FaceBody)

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 5:59 pm

I created an npc with all the relevant changes. Next i opened it with TesVSnip and saved it as an esm. Then open that (semi) .esm with the CK, make some change (and undo it) and then save it. Now it is a true .esm. Close the CK. Reopen the CK and load that .esm again, change your npc′s lipcolor to something really extreme (doesnt matter, as lip color currently doesnt show anyway) and set the interpolarity to 1.0. Click on ok and then select the npc in your object window and press Control + F4. This should create your npc′s facegen data. Even when you use an .esp now to make further changes, the face will always get showed properly  I hope this helps you and others...at least until Bethesda has fixed this. While you are at it, please also fix dirt and lip color  (and someone please tell me how to make followers go into sandboxing mode instead of waiting mode  )

awesome, not only did that work... but my characters lips are green  time to change that back... thanks for the instructions.

Ok I have followed the steps, but I encountered a new issue and thats a visable seam between the hairline mesh and the face mesh. The skin tones match on face to body but the seam is driving me nuts and I dont know why.

uh, oh, my npc mod is causing a crash to desktop at the main menu... seriously? this happening to anyone else?

EDIT: I think I figured out why. I deleted the esm file i had converted and used to create the esp... all i know is that ever since it dissapeared, my new esp started crashing my main menu

Do we have to do these steps for Player races as well. I created my first Frost Orc and got skin color but the face is still brown.

Just to clarify a bit. This bug is only on NPC's edited or created with the Creation Kit.

As a temporary solution for the creation of new NPCs, you can use "test, unused" NPC. for example
"TestWritingDude", "TestReadingDude", etc.

This is good to know. So since the Newrace isn't an NPC...I wonder why the exact same thing is happening. Arg so frustrating.

I'm having this problem as well. I'm a complete noob at the Creation Kit and attempted some of the suggestions made on the first page without success. I tried to alter the face of the character "Alva".

Its a pretty bad problem to have and strange it wasn't picked up in beta. I am glad they know about it and are working to fix it though.

Just need to patiently wait for an update on this issue.

In relation to this i turned my companion into an ESM and solved the texture issue, however when i exited the game and reloaded after a few hours she wasnt with me. I went back to her spawn in the riverwood inn and she was there in her gear, when i tried to re recruit her she says i already have a companion. When i load up the esp she will stay with me through saves however its back to the texture problems any idea's?

Glad you found this page. As for your problem... sometimes its actually quicker to solve things like these by remaking your npc and doing the process over again. One thing that's happened to me is that I loaded up my npc esp, recruited them, saved, and loaded up a different version of the esp. What happened was that it was in the save game's memory that I had already had a follower, and this same but new npc behaved that way. i had to load up an older save to re-recruit... not sure if thats whats happening to you exactly, but it might help somewhere down the road. good luck.

Its exactly the same esm im using. The esp version doesn't have the recruiting issue but then i have the texture issue. -.- This Ck is to buggy.
Im probally going to have to use the npcweight console command and the esp which is going to disable my acheivements. AWESOME

Did you change anything at all with her appearance in the esp? Even her hair? If you do it will mess up her skin color in the esp. The pairing is working well for me, but the only thing I have in the esm is the face settings and nothing else. All other NPC changes are in the esp. Also, did you make sure to master everything for the esp? Skyrim, the update and your esm? And when you made the esm did you master Syrim and the update?

I am glad to know that this is an officially recognized bug. I have this face/body texture bug in my mod too. I mostly see it on my female characters. I hope they fix it soon, because I am working hard every day on my village, the looks of it are important to me and I won't release anything with all my females looking ugly grey-faced.

Just for the record, the method below worked for me like a charm.
I went on a rampage changing/combining warpaint, makeup, freckles, etc.. and it worked every time.

Here's a technique that helps when modifying an NPC from the base game.
  • Locate some pre-existing NPC. I chose Hadvar.
  • Edit the Actor > Character Gen Parts tab. I decided to make a drastic lip color change
  • Click MaleHeadNord_Lips.dds in the left-sice "Face Tint Layers" list
  • Click "Select Color" - choose something extreme, like a neon green
  • Slide "Interpolation Value" all the way to the right (1.0)
  • Click OK
  • In the Object Window, find the base Actor you've just edited.
  • With the Actor(s) selected, press ctrl+F4. Click "Yes" when prompted to export.
  • This will create a DDS and a TGA in ...\Syrim\data\Textures\Actors\Character\FaceGenData\FaceTint\Skyrim.esm
  • Note: The TGA is not really neccessary, as the DDS should be uncompressed.
  • With these textures in place, run the game and test your NPC. Note that the plugin changes need not be saved.

My fire-red Argonian looks like he went into a tanning parlour with a sack over his head. The face is really pale while the rest of the body is the correct red colour.
