That robe is the one of the best unique items in the game IMO

Really useful for a mage. They look awful though

It looks terrible. Looks like the arch-hobo's robes. I do find them highly useful though. Also most of the big rewards in the mages guild come at 90 rating for each spell.

The story doesn't end there. There are repeatable quests and day-to-day stuff, speak to Tolfdir to see if anything needs your attention. Unlike Oblivion once you reach the top there is at least stuff to do

And I agree with the arch-hobo comment xD

actually its cool to be arch mage, there's tons of soul gems and ingredients plus some other stuff in the arch made room, and it all respawns so you can keep harvesting all the soul gems and other stuff to sell or use, and the rest ofthe college has stuff you can take like more soul gems and they all respawn, as far as the robe, i like robe of destruction better than the arch mage robe, but its ok, i do use it until i get an adept or expert robe of destruction.

Someone on here described the Archmage's robes as making you look like a Mexican goat herder -- favorite comment, yet.

Does anyone know if the garden ever grows back after harvesting?

The College has about 3 members and they just promoted someone they met a couple of days ago to Arch-Mage. Why would you think they'd be capable of giving you a better reward?

If I wanted to do "dailies" as my main gameplay, I would be playing an MMO.

I personally think it looks simply awesome and fits Skyrim perfectly.

OT:
Well, Arch-Mage's quarters are practically a free house and Arch-Mage's robes are pretty damn awesome.
Still, Staff of Magnus (like lot of other unique items and artifacts) is kinda meh (I think that removing charges would be a good enough upgrade).
But my biggest problem with becoming Arch-Mage are not items you get, but the fact that world around you don't treat you differently at all!
I still get some guards say to me that it's nothing special that I can cast a few spells and such.
Overall, I simply don't feel it.

My biggest problem with becoming archmage is becoming archmage no matter what. I played the whole plot with my thief and had her pretend to be a mage and feign interested in anything but the guild's freebies. So she fetched a staff and stabbed an elf and now she's the archmage. The other members of the college must be really incompetent when the Psijic Order has to show up and appoint some amateur spellcaster to be their archmage.

So true, I miss when there where requirements to advance in a guild. Oh you did all that work we gave? Great, what's that? You didn't improve any of skills that are a fondation of this guild? Looks like someone isn't advancing up the ladder.

What I can't agree with is that I still have to pay them to train me in magical skills. I'm now the head of this place and you're bilking me out of gold.

yea i did find it weird there was no "actually be good with spells" requirement at all throughout the WHOLE thing.

i mean after using a scroll to cast a fireball to cross the bridge i never used magic ever throughout the whole chain.

archmage with no magic skill above 30 reporting for duty!

I still have to pay my "wife" to train archery. Where's the love? Srsly. If it has to be quid pro quo, why not trade lessons for the enchanted legendary dragonscale and daedric sword/bow that you're now using courtesy of yours truly?

True.
I totally forgot that.
That's not only problem with the College, but with almost everything else in the game.
You are always the chosen champion who's name is written in the starts and crap like that.
It actually makes game pretty linear.
I also hate the fact that Ancano was the bad guy at the end since it was predictable as sunrise in the morning.
It would be much more interesting and would invoke much more emotions if, let's say, Tolfdir turns out to be a bad guy due to him being crazed by the power of the Eye or something like that and Ancano is one who helps you save the day (yeah, I know it's nothing special, but at least it's better than what we have).
Also, being able to save Arch-Mage or letting someone else taking that role would also be pretty damn good since I personally I do have interest in mastering magic, but am still not suited for being a leader.

You know what is most ironic about Skyrim?
The fact that it's M rated!
Honestly, it is M rated, but it's content is actually for children. >_>
I advise Bethesda to make actually a mature game for mature people next time since that's what made TES into a legendary game series it is now.

Yeah Bethesda really screwed up this time. They wanted to make this game more like an MMO - dailies?? Come on really?? I played wow and currently play Rift to do dailies. And soon to play SWTOR so I won't have to worry about the garbage that I wasted my money on...

The funny part about the Ancano fight was when he'd get right in Tolfdir's face and hit him as he lay motionless

True that.
Oh well, not that Bethesda cares.
As long as they make money, they won't bother improving the game - just adapting it for twits.

The robes definitely don't look good but there are some benefits from being archmage.
