Yeah, PVE is pretty much "Get the biggest weapon you can wield, and wear the heaviest armor you can because, brotha, yer gonna need it". I think that is a major flaw that that is the choice thrust on you. Oh yeah, sure, you can make functioning sorcery builds, but some bosses just laugh at that. You need 50 Vitality and at least 40 Endurance to get anywhere in a NG+.

Also, yes, the dinos are a slap in the player's face. At least they don't respawn, that's good.
It dosent help equipment has more of an effect than stats. Have as high strength and dex as you want, but your still going to be slower than the guy in GH armour. Which is made more pointles by havels ring letting you wear heavier armour with the same speed as light armour. And yes my theif ended up playing the game with GH armour/stone and the gravelord sword. Add in insanely high endurance and high vit, a strength of 26 for the sword... It wasnt even remotely like I planned, may aswell have been a knight.

Spoiler
So I've made my way to the bottom of Blighttown and rested at the bonfire in the tunel by the swampy area. Is my next step to fight the creepy/hot spiderwoman down there? I went there after leveling up and I'm quite sure I can beat her (had 1 estus flask and managed to take 30% of her damage). Just wondering if this is the next thing I should do or if there is somewhere else to visit down in this area. :)
Guys need some assistance!

Also another general question: I am about level 40 now and I am still kinda wondering what humanity is worth and when I should use it. I think I used it once to get help from Knight Solaire and kindle some bonfires, but except from that I have no idea if I should use my humanities (have about 5) or if I should keep being undead as I've been 95% of my journey so far. When am I supposed to use them and what benefits do they give me? I know I can invade worlds and kindle etc, but beside that.. should I begin using my humanities?

Yes, If you rang the first bell then the next bell is behind Quelaag, the hot spider lady. Although it's probably a better idea to find the way back to the Undead Asylum, so you can get the Rusted Iron Ring (or whatever it's called). Lets you run through the poison swamp without getting slowed, which means you can actually make it through without even getting poisoned if you take the right route. That means more flasks for the boss fight.

Humanity though...ehh...it's kinda useless to hoard. Best use is to just turn yourself human and summon people for the boss fights, otherwise it's kinda wasted.

Ah I see, thanks! :) How do you get to the Undead Asylum? I've heard people mention it before but I'm not quite sure how to get there.

Jump off elevator early from firelink to the parish( kinda a hidden floor). Stay to the right. Roll to the pillar. Pretend you're an egg. Your ride should pick you up shortly.

Also:

Darkmoon Blade and Sunlight Blade. Both are single use weapon buffs. A large investment to use, requires talisman in the left hand, an enchantable weapon in your right hand, spell slot, all for 60 seconds (i think) of attack buff. Is this worth it for PVE or PVP?

Also for a buff like this would you select a fast, low dam weapon or a slow, hi dam weapon?

Sunlight blade needs a lot of faith to be good. The darkmoon blade can be cast with a pyro-hand and it has infinite uses ;) Spell-switch makes this game fun when playing with terrible weapons such as the dragonslayer greatbow :D

Ah okay I will try, thanks!

Also another question guys!

Spoiler
I found a Fire Keeper's Soul in Blighttown and now the bonfire in Firelink is inactive and the woman underneath is gone along with the golden soldier guy. I assume he have killed her or something like that as I've heard that he is a evil son of a [censored]! :(

So I found a item that says that I can invade the world of the murderer of the firekeeper (or something like that) and I wonder if I should use it? I'm afraid of messing up so I'd like some info before I make my decision! :)
Also I upgraded my Estus by the bell by Blighttown. I had to kill that little jerk that was blocking my way to the bonfire and I dunno if that was a good idea?

I also stole the clothes a giant lava spider demon was guarding and I died and ran off to Undead Parish because I felt weak lol, what is there to do down there by the way beside killing that huge thing? Am I too weak? (level 43 warrior I think)

More general questions! I have a green titanite shard, should I use it on my Uchigatana +5 to make it Divine? Also I've got Dragon Scale, should I use it on my Drake Sword?
Thanks again! :)

Anor londo, just outside the first boss in that area. You'll get a pop-up window saying the black eye orb is now vibrating or something.

So I can't use it at this moment? Don't think I've been to Anor Londa so I guess I'll just wait. ;) Also I've updated the post you replied to seconds before you answered lol because I progressed, would love to get some more help if you know what to do!

Thanks.

There's tough enemies and tougher enemies further down there in the lava place, a place you will have to visit at some point.

As for the divine uch and drakesword, I wouldn't do either. In sen's fortress you'll get a lightning spear that will most likely outdamage the +5 divine uchi and the drakesword needs 10K souls to upgrade.. Sure, if you have extra 10K that you don't want to save up to buy the crest of artorias from a blacksmith..

Reviving this thread!

Just played a bit after a hiatus. Wow that patch has done wonders!

Some observations:

Match making has been much improved..

I got gravelord-ed! It actually worked!

I went swing for swing with a lightening weapon vs a chaos weapon, and actually won!

Didnt run into any twop or fog trolls.

Didn't get one shOtted by a crystal shield.

Bless the patch!

Yeah the patch seems to have fixed quite a lot of stuff. I'll be returning to Dark Souls, eventually, once I'm done with Skyrim. Then, I'll return to Skyrim again sometimes :)

Dont die thread, I still need you.

Ok so I want to play DS again, I want to get "knights honour" which means around 3 playthroughs. I will most likely be alone (not relying on summons) can someone give me some tips ? My biggest worries are the tomb of giants (skelatal dogs and nito) and ornstien and smough. Whats a good build to go for ? I think I will need pyromancy, makes certain things much easier if Iron flesh isnt nerfed much. High endurance is always, good. But can anyone reccomend some good builds ?

I haven't played after the newest patch, so you are on your own! I suggest summoning others though, as the multiplayer is supposedly much better now.

However, healing miracles will always, always be useful. Fight some enemies, take a few hits and after combat use the healing miracle to get back into full health. Use estus only in situations where speed matters. Once you get enough healing miracles and faith (or intelligence, depends which talisman you use) you'll always have full estus flasks once you reach the bosses. Don't worry about tomb of giants, just get yourself a good, big shield and a solid spear and poke away. You'll also get a helmet that lights the whole place up in lost izalith, from killing the sunbro once he's gone mad or kill a sunlight maggot insect.

That would help alot, I hated the ToG becuase I needed the lantern and couldnt use my shield. lso I used swords becuase tht was my best weapon. Thanks for those tips, the ToG was the worst part of the game for me. Well that ans Ornsten and smough. but pparently they are weak to fire so fire weapons will be used, along with pyromancy. Only real issue is having to kill Ornstien first. I could never do that, just smough.

So, now that it's winter break and I'm off school (read: have time to play games), I bought Dark Souls (being a fan of Demon's Souls and of earlier FROM SOFTWARE games). I'm absolutely loving it so far. The return to a largely directionless, open world is a great step back towards what made King's Field so great. In fact, I'd say Dark Souls is much closer to being the so-called spiritual successor to King's Field than was Demon's Souls.

Now if we could just go back to first person.. ^_^

@ ratslayer, though you probably already know since you've been playin awhile:

Spoiler

Don't forget you have a few options to lightin' up ToG:
1) Skull lantern. The necromancers in the catacombs will drop this sometimes, nice to get it early.
2) Light spell from the summoned magic vendor after you beat the hydra and crystal golem in Dark Root Basin
3) Sunlight maggot from the Demon Ruins, Firesage area IIRC. Haven't actually used these myself.
4) Isn't there some type of helmet as well?

@ septiego:

I can really see why the chose to say spiritual successor instead of sequel. The game seems to be very much like an upgraded version Demon's. There are exceptions so I'm speaking broadly here. Never touched King's Field so I'm in the dark there.

Few examples I'll throw out off the top of my head:

Hellkite Dragon in Undead Burg and Red Dragon from 1-1.

Valley of Defilement and Blight Town

Stray Demon / Firesage and Grey Demon.

I really enjoy these little nods to Demon's in Dark.

Myself, I'm working on a low level play through and having much more fun than I thought. Pyro is indeed the Royal of Dark Souls.

I'm definitely going back to Dark Souls at some point and hope the online playing has gone from full trolling to honorable 1 on 1 duels. Oh those good times in demon's souls.

Basically, the King's Field games are open world (very similar to how Dark Souls' world is layed out and connected), slow, methodical, very exploration based ARPGs in the first person. While Dark Souls is certainly a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls (I've been finding little nods back to the latter quite frequently so far), it excels in being truer to King's Field than Demon's Souls ever did. And that makes me a very happy gamer. :)

Damnit I hate new londo. I cant remember how to get in there quicly to the four kings, I just waste my estus flasks and pyromancy, before dying.

Also this patch hasnt fixed MP, I still have yet to be summoned. Maybe its becuse im lvl 30, but I waited round O+S with my sign for 30 minutes.
And the nerfs, dear god. Iron fllesh was fine, it slows you down, makes you weaker rto lightning, but reduces damge. Now it slows you, but reduces so little damage it becomes useless. I will dread some fights without that helping me (Lost Izalith)

Also tips against the four kings would be helpful. Even better if they are for NG+ which is what my character will be.doing.

SNIP

Spoiler
So the sunlight maggot that is dropped by the bugs by firesage you wear on your head?

Serious question BTW. :)

I always thought you had to upgrade some helmet of sorts. My mistake. Always used the lantern so never had a reason to use it.

I don't even mind the troll fest anymore all that much. If some invader catches me wandering around in body form, not equiped for PVP, without any summons watching my back well then I'm fair game.

Elemental weapons at low level (classic troll sign) is just something I've come to expect. I am equal or higher sl lvl than my invaders so if I am beaten, my fault for not rolling with better equipment or not being a better player.

I like honorable duels but also enjoy classic BPing, attempting to stop a player from being able to complete an area.

One of the only ways a player can RP in this game is the way they engage in MP. Whether you wanna be a troll or an honorable duelist, well, that is up to each individual.

The true Dark Souls starts here :)

Without twinks, trolls ,sunbros, darkmoons, gravelords etc. This game wouldn't be nearly as fun.

Damn I miss iron flesh. Im lvl 34, and the four kings are kicking my ass. Killed 2 then died. God help me on NG+ and NG++.

Just finished the painted world. I remember why I hated that place. Lost 60k souls to those damn wheel skeletons, andever more with those [censored] crow demons.
