One apparently is guarding Monday mornings. The other is all for friday night old school Cartoon Network. I think I prefer the Vampires now.

Hard to tel so far, we don't really know who is good or evil so far.
Maybe the Vamps just want to live in peace & the Dawnguard are evil.
Who nows?
I would rather decide things as they come

My current character is the heroic type, so will be joining the Dawnguard to save Skyrim from an eternal night.

I'll also be starting a new character to play the Vampire side, as I think it'll be fun to complete Dawnguard, then play through the rest of Skyrim as a Vampire Lord. Probably get him to level 10 first though, as in one of his E3 interviews Todd said Dawnguard was designed for levels 10 upwards. Just need to decide if he's going to be a Necromancer or an Assassin.

Level 10? Pathetic. That's not even mid level. I want to be killed by gargoyles that are level 59!

This.

Dawnguard want to wipe out the vampires for obvious reasons; blood-svcking parasites, abominations, predators that feast on the men and women. Dangerous and infectious creatures to society.

Vampires want to survive; to stop the tyranny of the sun to put an end to a prophecy from the Elder Scroll called "The tyranny of the Sun" which predicts an apocalypse for vampires and implies their future annihalition by super-natural means. Wanting to thrive, survive and live on, Harkon wants to stop this.

Both sides have a clear reason to fight.

soooo... they do this to survive and this makes them good?

the civil war got no good side, yes, but for the dlc.... vampires are not good at all. who cares if they try to survive.. doesn't make them good. if i am a mass murderer and kill even more ppl to get to survive as long as possible, it doesn't make me good.

from what i'v seen, you technically start of as a dawnguard and at some point you can choose to stay or join the vamps, so you could be a vampire lord and still have a crossbow.

This is Indeed the case.
You learn of crossbows on, most probably, the very first time you enter the Dawnguard fortress.
People forget that you activate the DLC by hearing rumors of Vampire Hunters in the area, which then leads you to seek out someone to show you where they're hiding out. In turn, providing the player the training to be able to use crossbows.
Only later on do you get the decision to join the Volkihar.
It will most probably be a cas of, either do what the Dawnguard Crew have asked you to, or ignore their commands, and do the opposite. Could be somehwere along the lines of the Dawnguard are commanding you to go and kill a certain Vampire (or rid Vampires from a certain cave). You kill all the Vampires in that cave, but the leader of that pack makes you an offer, and you get the choice to take his offer and side with the Volkihar, in turn, setting him free, or just plain ol' stabbing him in the face, in turn, "killing him dead".

So yeah, that's what I think.

Now, i'll probably do both sides of the DLC, but I have to admitt, being a Vampire Lord does look quite the thrill. :hubbahubba:

I hope the Dawnguard/Volkihar dichotomy is a little more grey than Vampires = Bad.

Tyranny of the sun- The classic Trailer quote does suggest they don't simply want to "Eat people and kill stuff". Maybe they're sick of being prisoners in this world?

I still plan to kill them all, but I at least want to have to think about it.

Indeed. It seems to me that they just want to break free (rolls in the Queen song), and just live a life out in the open for once. Eventually, they'll start selling Bottled Blood in every alchemy shop.
Which makes me remember.
The things you get while siding with the Volkihar really help Vampires (obviously). But I mean, in the long run, you may not even need to feed on living people anymore. Bottled Blood is being introduced into the game from the Volkihar, so you could potentially be a "Pacifist Vampire" or a good Vampire, if you would.

DawnGuard vs Vampires to me isn't good vs evil it's more extermination vs survival just like very war where it's about differing ideas or discrimination. It's the same with Imperials vs Stormcloaks each side with say that they are just, that they are stronger. Even Werewolves vs Sliver Hands are the same. It's all about perspective. You know what they say "history is written by the victor." There is no such thing as good and bad only that the strongest is always right because "good" always wins. Well, I like to think so, feel free to disagree.

I really don't know i want to be a vampire lord really bad but I don't want it to be dark out all the time plus no light kinda takes away one of the major challenges of being a vampire so I'm kind of torn we'll see how it works out when it comes out.

I'm always good as well. My character is an in game representation of myself. I actually feel bad when I do evil things in a game.

Actually the vamps have righter reason to fight...
The Dawnguard wants vampiric genocide IMO, but remember that being a vampire doesn't mean thet you're evil. It would be funny if every "good" character joins Dawnguard, and then BANG ! Lord Harkon is a good guy and Dawnguard are baddies... great plot twist.

See that's what I've also been considering, but to completely piss the sun off... that also tells you another thing. Maybe there is no good side. xD

I almost never do anything that could be described as 'bad' or 'evil' so I'm likely going to be with the Dawnguard on this one.

I also hope that the DLC will be a little more grey than 'all vamps = evil'. It would be cool if there's a vampire turncoat or vice versa.
Unfortunately I personally feel that's not incredibly likely.

Obviously though, good and evil are subjective terms.

My Mage Breton will become a Vampire Lord ravage through the land, Possibly assault Riverwood because they disagree with my mutilation of their chickens. So Evil.

My Werewolf Reguard Warrior will probably side with the Dawnguard. But he is good.

My Bosmer Ranger will just hang out and see which one benefits him more in profit. He is bad not evil, Greedy little elf

After becoming a werewolf and killing everyone in Riverwood I felt bad, (I know it's only a game) so I cured myself and the Companions, and if I stick with this character I'll be a Dawnguard for sure to carry on that role of good v evil. I can always become a Vampire with a new character at another time.
